Another Pompey statement required!

Another Pompey statement required!

Pompey having to issue statement after statement to deny claims that are made in the media is getting beyond a joke now really is it not?

Lets take these media outlets to the cleaners to prove once and for all that they do not contain any truth in their stories, or is that perhaps elements of them are true? That is my only concern about our constant reactions to claims made - these claims keep harming us, so why are we not doing more to clear our name apart from merely issuing statements?

Anyway, as I had suggested would be the case, this is the latest statement - in reaction to the Benjani repayment rumours that surfaced this morning - which was of course published on the Pompey Site...

PORTSMOUTH FOOTBALL CLUB STATEMENT

Contrary to inaccurate newspaper reports today Portsmouth Football Club would like to make it clear that they are not in negotiations with Manchester City for an early settlement in connection with the transfer of Benjani Mwaruwari.

Both the terms of the deal and the transfer fee remain the same as in January 2008 when originally negotiated with Manchester City, who can confirm this.

Pompey announced at the time that Manchester City paid half the agreed £7.75m deal up front, with subsequent equal payments to follow after 25, 50 and 75 appearances.

Fees based on appearance has always seemed backwards to me - surely that's bad for both parties involved because if Benjan got to say 49 appearances and (I know it's ridiculous) Man City couldn't afford the fee both parties would not benefit (Pompey won't get the cash, Man City won't play the player). Rubbish example I know, but how do tranfers like this work? Am I missing something? :-S

Gino, you might well ask. My head is spinning. Do the Accounts figures published include the sale of Benjani and the purchase of Defoe or just the stage payments paid and received? Wot is going on? Why aren't we having a go at the papers? Why have we only issued a statement denying one of the stories, what about Muntari and Defoe? Do the Papers know about Muntari and Defoe and are assuming the negotiations for Benjani? You do all realise that this is only going to get worse once the transfer window starts. I think I am going away on a very long holiday.......

When I first saw this mentioned in the media I thought it was talking about us buying Benji back in the summer :(

Get used to it I say. The media want a top club to go bust, and they've picked on Pompey to be that club. They won't let go until something big happens, and even then they'll keep kicking until we hurt! Lets be honest, we've given them enough in the last five years to help stoke the fire, they don't like our snotty nosed street urchin attitude, and have decided to put us back in our place.

Vital View - League 2, 18th February 2017

Doncaster's winless run went on but they remain three points ahead of Plymouth. Carlisle are a further two points back. Leyton Orient and Newport hold the unwanted relegation places.

Video - Barnet 1-1 Pompey

A late Barnet goal looked as though it would end Pompey's unbeaten run but Conor Chaplin proved the saviour when he scored a last minute equaliser to earn a point in a 1-1 draw.
