£20m each for Johnson and Crouch!

The 'Sunday Express Sport can reveal that Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is ready to pay up to £20million for England right-back Johnson' were some of the words that greeted us today with the Sunday Express 'claiming' Glen Johnson and Peter Crouch will both be leaving Pompey this summer...

I think that most of us have accepted that Johnson will leave in the summer, we do not want this but the more he continues to impress the more likely it is he will go and £20m certainly would not be refused would it, anything above £10m would probably be accepted I reckon.

His going rate would surely be £10-£15m wouldn't it? In an ideal world he will stay, but it just does not look good that he will...

As for Crouch, despite other 'reports' that he was off to Blackburn, he will be off to Citeh!

I honestly do not think that the big man has any intention of leaving the club and will not go unless we look to cash in on him - and that for me is the worrying thing, cashing in on players is something I fear we will look to do. Is this worry due to what the media tell us, or is it down to what the club itself actually tells us, or not as the case may be sometimes?

Oh, Citeh will 'reportedly' pay up to £20m for him too, again though anything above £10m would be accepted for him I suspect...

Well, the 'big money' departure stories have started early, only time will tell how true the Sunday Express' revelations will prove to be.

It's going to be a very different team we see in August. Don't feel that confident about naming ANY of them! Probably just be stuck with Utaka and a tea lady.

I have to say that I am absolutely dreading the transfer window. I thought last years' was bad enough and the January Window even worse. But I think this one will beat the pair of them into a cocked hat. That is, of course, unless we find a buyer before then. I am just hoping and praying that a consortium is waiting in the wings for us to cement our prem league position and then they will show their hand. Although, even if we find a buyer I don't think we can spend big - the accounts just out make that abundantly clear. Assuming we don't get a buyer, looking on the bright side, the Crouch and Johnson money will more or less wipe our Bank debt out and that just leaves the money Sacha is owed. If we also sell Utaka and Niko, then maybe we will have some money to spend on other players. A couple of loans from here and abroad and maybe for the next couple of years we can stay around the 15th mark in the league and then perhaps go for it again when we have more gate money coming in. Lots of pit falls in there I know, but I am trying to cheer us all up. (Don't bother, I hear you say). Well at least we are not Scummers and we will have some football to look forward to!

I think the way we should play it is to hold off selling any of the players - bar Utaka of course! - until about half way throgh the window. If we don't have a buyer by then, then yes, offload, and stick the cash into the debt fund. It'll be sad if we have to do it, but I'd be prepared to sarifice the work-rate of Johnson and the loyalty of Crouch if it means we can secure a financially stable status. Besides which, I could see Crouchy come back again in a couple of years if we did sell him - he seems to love us, and that's not a bad thing at all!

£20m for Johnson!!! no way Rafa would pay that amount for him, £10m is a more realistic price.

We must face the inevitable, but it is sad to hear the rumours before safety is achieved. That in itself could be a backward step as players going might not care for our current plight. We ned them to stick together and come what May...or June or July. Next season begins with 20 clubs battling again, I just hope we are one of them, regardless who wears the Pompey shirt.

Both Johnson and Crouch will be looking for stability ahead of the World Cup next season so I DON'T expet either of them to want to leave it might upset their preparations .. Pompey selling them is obviously beyond their control but I really think they will be the last two out the door ... Niko will be the first however...

they are all going to go, next year will be a team of youth players known to Hart. James, herman, distan, campbell Johnson, will be gone. last year it was midfield, this time the back line. i suspect crouch will also go and utaka. the greeks will also be off as well as pele. back in to the fold will be young Matt wotsit who is loan at daggers.

I agree Plymouth, if we do not survive the team will be depleted of all the talent and w e will have Ashdown, Crainie, Wilson, Hughes and Nugent to from the basis of the team. I suppose Subotic, Linvoy and Arnie will get a chance, but lets be honest you need a decent team to get out of that league nowadays. If we survive i reckon we could cash in on Nico and Glen, and keep Crouchie and Jammo. However we have some players with world cup aspirations who need to be playing and not sat on some other teams bench.

Why would James leave ? He wants to be near home (?) and was considering playing in the Championship to achieve it.

Playing in the World Cup would mean playing in the Premiership norfolk, if not Green,Robinson and Foster would get the edge on him.

Owens I agree: World Cup aspiations = Premiership visibility ... But as for some of the others mentioned fellas Campbell, Hermann, Utaka, I hope they do go we can not sustain 'old' players who demand huge salaries same goes for Kanu, Lauren, Djimi, et al I have no qualmes about any of them going and being replaced by youth .. Disti and James (even though I don't think they will go) would hurt though.. as for the Greeks Gekas is sure to go but Basinans is on an 18 month contract so will see his career out with us . as for Pele .. well we've hardly seen him so no real loss there ..

Distin's remark about his not coming to Portsmouth to fight for salvation still haunts me.... Also, Niko said in the News last fortnight that if we stay up he will stay with Portsmouth.

To be honest I rather sell Crouch than Johnson, but it seems that we will be selling Johson and Niko for sure. Crouch might stay, but we need to get in quality players as Crouch cannot play by himself. James will stay with us for sure. he has played some wonderful football with us and regained his England No. 1! I don't think he'll be off.

Just wait and see. At the moment it's ALL speculation and there is no point worrying about it.

The worst fear is GJ, Niko & Crouchie going to raise £35-40m & very little coming in. Eg Mullins in for Diarra!!!!! We will be a dead duck next season. Start praying!
