Pompey - Sunderland changed for TV

Pompey's final home game of the season, a game that 'might' be our last at Fratton as a premier league side - although I really do not think it will be! - against Sunderland has been moved from its Saturday 16th May 3pm slot to Monday 18th May with an 8pm kick-off for setanta sports coverage...

To me this is even more of a disappointment as the late kick off time on the Monday might means that those that would have come to the final home game of the season might not now - and even those that do 'might' have to leave before the end, or certainly before the traditional 'end of season lap of honour' to get home or what have you?

Myself, not that it is all about me at all, I had this feeling it could change so my travel plans meant me ensuring I covered Saturday, Sunday or Monday kick offs by booking my travel home on the Tuesday - clearly not everyone has the luxury that I do...

Fixture changes in the final months of the season can change with little notice - we have been given more than a month for the latest change, but this change for our last home game of the season is frustrating - then again, if it was not us, it would be someone else. And I guess we must spare a thought for the Sunderland fans, and plenty of Pompey exiles to be fair who make mammoth journeys, who now have a monster journey home on a Monday night!

Hey ho, that is modern day football and TV for you though I guess - they 'pay their money' so they can basically do what they want, the fact that we pay ours does not matter, in many ways we are mugs for doing this...

This 'probably' will not be the last of the changes we see as sky sports still have 'several slots' they need to fill.

Obviously this is just 'guess work' but I am predicting that our game with Blackburn, scheduled for Saturday 9th May at 3pm will be switched to Sunday 10th May - as this appears to be a fixture 'ideally suited' for them, and they currently have 1.30pm and 4pm kick off time slots with no names besides them...

Whatever happens on Sunday 24th May our trip to Wigan will kick off at 4pm, with or without TV coverage, as this cannot change as all games must kick off at 4pm.

So, if I were you, like me, I would be planning my trip to Blackburn to take into account that it is a more than 50:50 chances, I would say more likely 75:25 chance that we will be playing on the Sunday and not Saturday...

It is disappointing that the last home game will be on a Monday night BUT if we win it and are safe then it will be OK. Shame Setanta didn't come running for games earlier in the season.

Well at least it gives me a chance to see the game if I cannot afford to pay to get to Fratton, so I will take it as some sort of positive!

Bollox. I just love the Saturday games & it being the last of the season too. Mad dash from work then!!! I think it will be the game that may decide both our fate's.

Crikey. I almost booked to go to that game so very glad I didn't! Was gonna book flights down to the south coast from Manchester so a combination of that and booking a hotel for a couple of nights would have been down the drain. Am going to the last away game of the season so not all is lost for me :)

On a completely different note, I can't believe some people have chosen 'support saints instead' in that poll...who are these people??

Thanks for the update rug, I got caught up that way with Newcastle away, but still, now have a long weekend in Northumberland/ Newcastle to look forward to - in fact its almost a european match, travel a long way, stay in a hotel, do some sightseeing and the people talk funny and have strange ways, like not wearing coats.

Squee - didn't realise you lived in Manchester? SUAC51 - I thought the same, I thought they might be scummers, but we ventured over to the dark side of the Vital sites and their membership is pitiful. Their top 10 only had 5 members (for real) and only 3 making contributions. All I did was vote for 'Watford win' in the next match (tee hee) and then leave.

Tracyc - it's Chester I live but Manchester's only about 40 mins away. That means I could almost be a 'genuine' Man Utd supporter (perish the thought!). I haven't clicked on the poll yet but think I will now although it'll have to be the last option (forget football for ever n ever' for me!) :'(

Squee - Are you able to make Manyoo away? Being a midweek fixture I think our fans might be a bit thin on the ground. The last one was my choice too, although I would possibly pop along to the occasional Havant & Waterlooville match, but it would never be the same.

This is a complete bloody nightmare! I will have to bunk off the staff meeting (which I ought to be running) if I am to get to the south coast on time. Cobblers is all I can say.

To my mind this means the men in suits have been calculating that this will be the all important game, which does not bode well for us that we will be kept waiting to know out fate! IMHO all matches at this most important part of the season all matches should start and finish at the same time and on the same day!!

Tracy - unfortunately I'm unable to get to that game (transport and being potless the reason) although I do feel a bit of a disgrace for it. I think that as it's one of the 'glamour ties' then there'll be a fair few Pompey supporters there. Next one for me is Wigan. Now that really is a glamour tie :P

Sunderland in Wonderland, then Friggin Wigan. Who next asketh the Poet Lauriet, surely a bop with the top, not to camp in the Champ. In wildest dreams doth we go down, with my heart renched from it's soul, and tears for years of toil and foil, to want end.....fight on, no ye not Pompey !!

Setanta really do have it in for football fans don't they - they've picked Newcastle/Pompey and Pompey/Sunderland to move to Monday night, they must be the two matches in the league where the fans have furthest to travel. Obviously Setanta don't consider football fans to be their potential customer base otherwise they wouldn't try so hard to p us off!
