Pompey - Sunderland changed for TV

Pompey - Sunderland changed for TV

Pompey's final home game of the season, a game that 'might' be our last at Fratton as a premier league side - although I really do not think it will be! - against Sunderland has been moved from its Saturday 16th May 3pm slot to Monday 18th May with an 8pm kick-off for setanta sports coverage...

To me this is even more of a disappointment as the late kick off time on the Monday might means that those that would have come to the final home game of the season might not now - and even those that do 'might' have to leave before the end, or certainly before the traditional 'end of season lap of honour' to get home or what have you?

Myself, not that it is all about me at all, I had this feeling it could change so my travel plans meant me ensuring I covered Saturday, Sunday or Monday kick offs by booking my travel home on the Tuesday - clearly not everyone has the luxury that I do...

Fixture changes in the final months of the season can change with little notice - we have been given more than a month for the latest change, but this change for our last home game of the season is frustrating - then again, if it was not us, it would be someone else. And I guess we must spare a thought for the Sunderland fans, and plenty of Pompey exiles to be fair who make mammoth journeys, who now have a monster journey home on a Monday night!

Hey ho, that is modern day football and TV for you though I guess - they 'pay their money' so they can basically do what they want, the fact that we pay ours does not matter, in many ways we are mugs for doing this...

This 'probably' will not be the last of the changes we see as sky sports still have 'several slots' they need to fill.

Obviously this is just 'guess work' but I am predicting that our game with Blackburn, scheduled for Saturday 9th May at 3pm will be switched to Sunday 10th May - as this appears to be a fixture 'ideally suited' for them, and they currently have 1.30pm and 4pm kick off time slots with no names besides them...

Whatever happens on Sunday 24th May our trip to Wigan will kick off at 4pm, with or without TV coverage, as this cannot change as all games must kick off at 4pm.

So, if I were you, like me, I would be planning my trip to Blackburn to take into account that it is a more than 50:50 chances, I would say more likely 75:25 chance that we will be playing on the Sunday and not Saturday...

It is disappointing that the last home game will be on a Monday night BUT if we win it and are safe then it will be OK. Shame Setanta didn't come running for games earlier in the season.

Well at least it gives me a chance to see the game if I cannot afford to pay to get to Fratton, so I will take it as some sort of positive!

Crikey. I almost booked to go to that game so very glad I didn't! Was gonna book flights down to the south coast from Manchester so a combination of that and booking a hotel for a couple of nights would have been £££ down the drain. Am going to the last away game of the season so not all is lost for me :)

On a completely different note, I can't believe some people have chosen 'support saints instead' in that poll...who are these people??

2016-17 Champions Review: April

Pompey had a 6 point gap and were playing as good as they had all season, but with 7 games remaining, not even the most optimistic fan could have predicted how it would unfold.

2016-17 Champions Review: March

Every season has its highs and lows. The draw at home to Morecambe was a body blow for Pompey, but little did we know that the next home game against Crewe was to be our turning point.

Done and dusted - O'Brien joining Coventry

Academy graduate O'Brien, who went on to play for Barnet, Brentford and Dagenham following his release by Pompey, will leave Fratton Park again - he'll link up with Doyle at Coventry.
