Gekas 'unhappy' at Pompey - you don't say!

Gekas 'unhappy' - it is no big secret is it!

I love the way that the media are playing up the 'Theo Gekas is 'unhappy' at Pompey' angle today, doing this as if it is 'something we did not know' or a 'surprise to us'...

It is not at all, as it has been abundantly clear that this is the case with his words to the media, ours in response, the fact that he will not turn out for the ressies and that he is not in the 1st team squad anymore - and has not been for several weeks!

Zenit St Petersburg are 'interested' in signing the Greek striker in the summer, who will almost certainly not be here next season - if he makes it through until the summer that is? So news that his agent has expressed his is 'not happy in Portsmouth' is no surprise, not in the least.

We have spoken about this issue at great lengths, so it is just covering old ground but whilst I think there is a right and wrong way about going about things, and his way was probably wrong way, I - like Owenspompey said the other day - like the fact that he does want to play. He is not content to pick up money and do nothing for it, as many others connected to this club do/have. It is just a shame that he cannot even find a place onto the bench as he has scored goals everywhere he has been, at all levels...

==========

Look who is on his way back to England...

Gregory Vignal, remember him?

The full back that we signed from Liverpool, or was it Rangers, when Alain Perrin was in charge - he has played for a host of clubs over the years, including Scum, but is still only 27 I think. Well, according to his 'representative' he is looking like he will be returning to England again next season as 'talks with a Premier League team are very advanced'...

Apparently Vignal has had a run-in with the Lens fans and is now only playing in their away games! With this agreed with the management as something that will happen between now and the end of the season.

So long as these 'advanced talks' are not with us, which is unlikely, I do not care and 'when' we do stay up at least we will have the pleasure of playing against him next season - fantastic!

==========

10m for Kranjcar? 'Ka-ching!'

There were a few whispers over the weekend that Panathinaikos were 'targeting' Niko Kranjcar, and they would make the move for him in the summer.

Well, according to 'tribal football' - yep, I know that does not give it much credence - the Greek side are looking to pay around 10m for the Croatian!

Without a doubt Kranjcar is the most technically gifted player that we have at the club, and when he is on his game he is top class - unfortunately we probably do not see enough of this and sometimes look to be carrying him. With only a little over a year on his contract too 'if' we can get offered anything near 10m then it is a no-brainer, he has to go surely?

10m in the summer, or nothing in the summer of 2010 - hmm, I think we would see him off like a shot! To be fair it would be as much down to us wanting to cash in on him, as him actually wanting to leave, but as he has made it perfectly clear he would see out his contract then go. So, unless we tie him down to a new deal, which would seem unlikely, then we need to cash in on the summer... So it is almost certain that his time is up on the South Coast?

You know what to do - thoughts on all the above please guys. . .

Kranjcar would NEVER go to Panathinaikos - personal terms would never be agreed!! That is such a step backwards it's untrue - no disrespect to Greek football of course. I wouldn't want to sell Kranjcar, and if Bilic does come like I reckon he will, hopefully he'll agree a new contract and stay at the club for a couple more seasons. Gekas is probably off, although it's a shame as I would've liked to ahve seen him play. With regards to Vignal, I reckon the team are Stoke - they have all our old players anyway, so it's probably true!!

champions league football every season, 'god like' status, winners medals aplenty - others have sold out for far less Gino... champions league 'is where it is at' for so many of the players today and if moving to greece gave kranjcar the chance to showcase these talents on a regular basis i think he would take it - 'if' he did well he would get a move to a bigger european club in no time.
you cannot deny tho that we have to take a serious cash offer for him this summer - its either that or risk losing him for nothing in 2010, and the club will not have that!

I admit every player has his price and 10m is one to think about. I wouldn't go to Panathinaikos - Champions League football is all well and good but is it really guaranteed? Panathinaikos are hardly a showcase of world talent, in fact Ithink Karagounis and Gilberto Silva are their only decent players! Still that's only my opinion and if Kranjcar was intelligent enough, he wouldn't go, he'd stay in England and play in the world's best league! We really ought to be trying harder to put his signature on a contract I think.

thats why i say 'god like' status Gino, you are a massive fish in a small pond, yet a small pond that goes out into the huge sea every year, be that uefa cup of more likely champions league - hence why lualua went to olympiakos a few years back.

10 million - Sold to the Greek guy over in the corner! Gino, think about it. It is much more his tempo of football and he would probably only have to play a season before getting to move to Italy or Spain. That money would certainly solve a lot of the current debt that the club may or may not have.

No one has mentioned it, but did I not read an article on the back page of the Portsmouth News last week, where Niko says that if Pompey stays up he does not want to go anywhere but will stay with Portsmouth? From his point of view, that would be a good thing to do as he will then be a free agent the following year and make a lot more money for himself. Is that not how it works?

I see what you all mean, but I really can't see that happening - how many players have gone fromlittle known Panathinaikos or Olympiakos to big things? I genuinely can't think of any recent examples!! We shouldn't be looking to offload him, but to tie him down in my opinion. If next season Pompey start playing like we did last season (which is definately possible under the right guidance) then he'll get his big money move.

Best part of football in my opinion! I love specualting as to who will be joining who next! Unless Kranjcar is involved, obviously.

Exactly - TRansfers bring a huge amount of debate, and it's like having Xmas day and an opposite of Xmas day if there could be such a thing that can happen many times in a couple of months.

Well I feel sorry for Gekas. He's been mucked about from ear'oles to breakfast.

Mucked about Hammersmith? Not prepared to lower himself to the reserves and prove his worth like Nugent and Davis have had to? Its a pity Hart can;t get some kind of agreement with him though, I'd still like to see him come off the bench to see what he can do, cos he can obviously score goals and if Crouch does get an injury or something, we might need him. Re Kranjcar, I'd take 10 million for him, he's a class player, but I think he might need to move on to really shine properly.

Whilst 'ear'oles to breakfast' is possibly the funniest thing I've heard all day, I kind of agree with Tracy C. What Gekas needs to realise is that Hart wanted to see him in the reserves first - and he refused. He was Adams' signing, not Harts. That said, it's not his fault that Adams was sacked, and so you do feel a little sorry for him in that the promises that were made to him are probably not being kept by the current management team.

Gekas sees it as an insult that he has to prove himself and frankly I agree with him.. We didn't put Crouch or Defoe in the reserves did we ... We wouldn't sign a premiership striker and ask him to prove himself... Grkas was the Germany league top scorer a season and a half a ago. and has a great international scoring record.. Really what does he have to prove ??? - Paul Hart is handling this wrong I hope it doesn't back fire .. as it could big time if Crouch gets injured..

Yeah but Chix, what you're forgetting is that Crouch/Defoe both played in England and both were known quantities in that they played regularly. Not only that, he was dropped for Leverkusen. I agree it's puzzling why he's not played because all things point to him being an absolute quality player, but at the end of the day if he's aked to play in the reserves to show match fitness then he should be professional enough to do that and not moan about it - no matter how frustrating it is.
