So, we have some 15 players out of contract in the summer (or seeing their loans with Pompey end) it is almost time to decide who deserves a new contract and who does not deserve the drippings from my nose, well ours noses!
I was going to look at them all together, but I think I will do them one at a time... Simple question, and as the bearded one would say, 'deal or no deal?'
Pele - loan ends
Another that I have not seen much of, then again no have many of us! And, as we know, YouTube can be very deceptive!
That said to play 15-20 games in one season with Inter must mean that the guy has something about him, as to do that as a teenager, let alone and established player in a year long spell - or so - is not bad going.
We need him to get some games between now or the summer - and I feel we will despite thoughts to the contrary that he was 'one for the future' when he was loaned in by Tony Adams, I would hope that was only a 'smoke screen', but its proving a pretty hefty smoke screen and totally went against the way we were apparently doing our January deals! Why sign him if he was not going to be used? Although of course it is now a new manager in charge...
Deal or no deal? Deal.
There are some concerns that he might not be a team player and might be a bad apple, but I could not say how true they are.
I felt that he had been signed to have a look at him, play him in some games and then have him as part of our long-term future...but as said, with that being the case under Adams' charge maybe not?
He is young, yet clearly talented - I might be wrong in saying deal, but some players 'must' arrive in the summer, maybe he will be one at the right price, but unless he plays though this seems unlikely. A 25-yarder in the reserves the other day cannot have hurt his chances of some 1st team involvement though.
These are my thoughts, what about yours? As always please share them below...
