Shearer - We beat SKY & BBC by 11 hours

Whether it be local or national Vital Pompey is well known for breaking stories before other news sites but on this occasion we are proud to say that we have wiped the floor with everybody.

At lunchtime today I emailed the Vital Pompey Editorial Team to tell them that I had had a tip-off from a 100% trusted reliable source that Shearer had done a deal with Newcastle.

Obviously there was a little cynism within the team, especially given the fact that it was fast approaching April 1st however I stuck by my guns and put my reputation firmly on the line.

When I returned home from work at six o'clock I posted this in the Vital Pompey forum

Another one of Chixy's Hot Tips...

Alan Shearer has done a deal with the Newcastle board and will take control of the team for the remaining games of the season...

I heard this at One o'clock today ...

To be announced either late tonight or early tomorrow morning..

Just remember where you heard it first ..

At 23:01 Sky News broke this 'exclusive'

Alan Shearer is to take over as Newcastle United manager for the final eight games of the season as the club battle to avoid Premier League relegation

So there you have it Vital Pompey first off the blocks again
Is there really any other site you need to visit ?

On a separate note we have to consider what this will do to Newcastle's chances of survival. Given their run-in I was hoping that they (or maybe Hull City) would be the 'third team' along with Boro and the Baggies to free-fall out of the Premiership and although it's probably somewhat arrogant of me not to concede that we too are in as much danger of the drop I had almost pencilled them in - Now I'm not too sure.

We have seen ourselves what a change of manager can do to a clubs fortunes (from both sides of the coin) but can any Pompey, Stoke, Hull, Boro or Blackburn fans now not be a little worried - Shearer will surely bring impetus to the Geordies and it could spell trouble for one of us just above that dreaded zone.

Should we wish the bloke luck ? .. nah of course not and "I'd love it" if we turned them over up there in a few weeks time. Hopefully by then the New Messiah will have taken the same road as the old one, and let's not forget both of them are famous for wearing stripes of another colour.

Chix - you're making me laugh. But if it turns out to be true, I will apologise. Sounds too much like an April Fool to me though.

His first match is against Chelsea so that'll be a baptism of fire. He might prefer to be in his nice cosy seat on MOTD, mind you it won't be as hot as the one at St James'Park

Yeah Chelsea (H), Stoke (A), Spurs (A), Pompey (H), Liverpool (A), Boro (H), Fulham (H), Villa (A)... He must be looking at nine points minimum (38 in total) for survival .. So I reckon he's gonna target the three home games after Chelsea and anything he picks up on the road will be a bonus... Bit like us really ... If we can do West Brom, Bolton and Sunderland we should also be ok... A point at Hull Newcastle and Wigan wouldn't go amiss either though .. that'll give us 44 and that'll be plenty...

I am sure that there isn't much that is vital about Newcastle.

Although he's an ex scummer, I do have a lot of time for him on MoD, as he is one of the few who know what they are on about and in fairness he is generally ok with us, unlike wing nut. Got nothing against Newcastle other than that they are below us and want them to stay that way, but if we stay up then I hope they can remain in the league as well.

I know a few newcastle fans who are NOT happy with this. They just can;t see what would happen if there legend were to take them into the championship...

Well done Chix, I'm sorry I doubted you. We wait and see what effect Shearer has on the Toon now. After all we know to our cost that a legendary player may not make a good manager - and I thought the reason Shearer kept turning it down was because he knows he has no managerial experience and isn't ready. Still we'll see. I would wish them luck, if we weren't in a possible 'them or us' situation.

Carpet's got a very good, and valid point. What would the Newcastle fans think if the mighty Shearer took them down?!

As it said in one of the papers .it wint affect his ledendary status if he keeps them up he be even a bigger hero if they go down fans will we say it wasnt his fault he only had 8 games . I personally think they will stay up now his arrival will lift the team
