Pompey forced to issue another statement...

Once again for the umpteenth time this year, let alone season, Pompey have been forced to issue another official statement to counter claims made in the national media today.

Below is what the Pompey Sites statement said...

PORTSMOUTH FOOTBALL CLUB STATEMENT

Portsmouth Football Club would like to respond to unfounded reports in the media concerning the sale of the club.

The reports inaccurately allege Pompey's owner, Alexandre Gaydamak, has halved his asking price for the club. This claim is false and misleading.

All figures concerning the price of the club remain confidential.

Comments attributed to Pompey's executive chairman, Peter Storrie, have been taken out of context and were not intended for the media.

They were gained surreptitiously at a fans' forum by local Portsmouth newspaper The News, who attended the forum despite being banned from all club premises and events.

No statements or answers to questions regarding these matters were ever given to the media.

Journalists continue to write about Pompey without checking their facts or seeking comments from the club.

Yes, the press are bored and Pompey always prvides the opportunity for regurgitating tired old stories. However, there are always a significant minority who believe the adage "there's no smoke without fire". Interesting that The News were banned - I didn't appreciate that.

I personally am getting annoyed with the news, and other crappy tabloids who can't be arsed to actually use facts to make stories. These 'news' stories don't usually contain much. Especially from a paper with the same name...

The word "Slander" springs to mind. At the end of the day this is nothing more than misinformation about a business not only a football club, and it could seriously jeopardise the clubs future prospects finding a buyer. The club obviously take these things seriously otherwise they wouldn't keep on making statements. I just wonder what PFC lawyers are making of all this.

PS Why don't Pompey just take over the "News" and be done with it. With the cost of advertising these days it could be a nice little earner..

mffp - facts? The News are not interested in facts just speculation. That is what they think sells papers. We know the club are looking to sue someone at the moment and the ban on the News is inly the start.

I don't think anybody seriously believes what they read in the tabloid toilet papers. Any top businessman does read the Daily Mirror & thinks that must be true!

I can just about recognise the speech the Press are quoting. The comments are taken from all over the Pompey Forum Meeting. "The last six months have been a nightmare" This was said whilst he was talking about the funding of the new stadium. "We are desperate for a Buyer for the summer" Storrie actually said: We are on an even keel now - we need a new buyer or we won't be having any 10 - 15mil players coming in this summer. This was part of the answer to the question "Why do Pompey seem to have no ambition this season". Re: Vega's offer: Storrie said that Vega refused to pay certain debts (not all of them) and I understood that Sacha was afraid that Vega would sell all the Plyers (not Vega). Unfortunately, I don't know what was said in the second half as I didn't stay, but surely Storrie would not contradict what he said in the first half?

Nice one Gandor.. I can just see you with your notepad.. The history of The News and Pompey goes back years but this latest episode can, as others have said damage the club.. How many red tops take stories from the locals ??? .. How many people read red tops ??... I constantly meet football fans (non Pompey) who constantly believe 'I' am in deniel because I don't believe what is writtten in them.. they of course never see the official statements from the club to balance the debate..

the news of course wants a story, but if they are a 'pompey backing' paper they sure as hell have not always acted like it over the years - seems when the going is good they love us, when its not so they wanna kick us when we are down like all the rest...

it is a shame that the news are not with us, as we could do with the local paper being just that, but if they are against it its better to make people aware of this fact so they know that what they might be 'sharing' does not hold much water!

a quid offer from vega in someways could have been somewhat understandable had he, or his group, then promised to take on and wipe out club debts and promised to make the training ground and stadium happen... to offer a quid and then say he wasnt prepared to repay debts, and this would be done by selling players is obsurd!
