Pompey to redevelop Fratton then move

Pompey have just announced that they intend to increase the capacity of Fratton Park to 30,000 in stages before they plough ahead with the plans to build a new stadium at Horsea Island.

This means a fall back to the plan agreed a few years ago which was scrapped when the site on the Hard was first mooted.

Read all about this on the Club Official Site here

Following Pompey's announcement yesterday about its stadium proposals, Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson, Leader of Portsmouth City Council, made the following statment:

"The council has worked closely with Pompey on the Horsea Island stadium. It will continue to help the club prepare that scheme, and the club`s revised proposals for the stadium at Fratton Park.

"The council has previously given planning permission for an extended stadium at Fratton Park, very similar to the proposals that the club has unveiled today.

"We`re disappointed that the Horsea Island scheme is taking longer to achieve than was hoped."

Seems like the sensible thing to do, 'IF' we have a supermarket backing the plans and 'IF' it is not just a time wasting move by the club to make us seem more appealing.

We had a inkling this news was going to break and that is why we are first off the mark with the news. We will tell you all more as we discover anything.

Makes econimical sence. The city put the northern quarter on hold for 6 years, therefore, i suspect IF pompey pushed to hard to get the new stadium at horesea, pompey FC would have been landed with the cost of slip roads, and bridges, that the northern quarter would have swallowed up. Still its going bigger, and its going ahead, thats the main thing.

But is it going to happen??? Or are we going to see pictures of Sacha in a hard hat pretending to start the building, just like Milan 5 years ago???

No More Quarter Final Replays For Pompey

Should Portsmouth progress through to an FA Cup quarter final from the 2016/17 season onwards, the game will no longer be subject to a replay.

Chesterfield's O'Shea targeted

Although so far Pompey have had two bids turned down for Chesterfield's O'Shea. Will, assuming another bid (as it's expected) is made, it be third time luck for the Blues?

It wasn't Real Madrid but Bristol City isn't bad!

Contrary to what I just wrote (muppet that I am) this isn't at Fratton this is at Ashton Gate with Pompey heading to Bristol City on Saturday 30th July, with a 3pm kick-off.
