So Hyland did sign then!
Khaleem Hyland was a player that we were heavily linked with for a long time last summer, but a move to sign him looked to have been scuppered by work permit problems and he looked liked he had slipped through the net...
Cue the January transfer window and there were some mutterings that the young Trinidadian had been farmed out to our Belgian partners Zulte Waregem - could we have loaned out a player that we had not even signed?
Well, it would appear that we did eventually bring the 19-year-old to Fratton after he left San Juan Jabloteh when his contract ended last summer but with him failing to meet the criteria needed to gain a work permit, he has not been able to get one, yet!
By all accounts he is excelling with Waregem and it is hoped that when his application for a work permit is looked at again at the end of the season the Home Office will give him the green light - if not then I would guess he will be off to Belgium again next season as we look to find away round this issue...
Other clubs farm youngsters off to European clubs to help with work permit problems do they not? So why should we not do the same...
We seem to have expanded a lot of time and effort to bring Hyland to the South Coast, hopefully he is worth it! Maybe next season we will finally be able to see him in action for Pompey and judge for ourselves?
