Once again Portsmouth Football Club has had to issue a statement to clarify various things surrounding the club - these being the position regarding Ramon Vega's proposed takeover of the club and 'reports' in The Mirror that backers were looking to call in debts immediately...
It would appear that the chances of Vega gaining control of the club are over as he was unable to appease Pompey with his ability to secure the funding that his proposal well, proposed. So it seems that his offer has been completely rejected and this is dead in the water.
I say credit must go where it is due, I really do believe that Sacha Gaydamak is being true to his word, in as much as he will not sell to any old Tom, Dick or Harry - they really must be able to take us forward to heights that he only wishes that he could and it would appear that the former Swiss international could not fulfil the criteria that I required, so he will not gain control of the club and for the time being Gaydamak remains.
A statement has been issued on the Pompey Site, which read as follows below...

==========
PORTSMOUTH FOOTBALL CLUB STATEMENT
Following recent articles in the press about Portsmouth's financial position and reports that the club has rejected a proposal from Ramon Vega, the board would like to clarify its position.
As Mr Vega was consistently unable to demonstrate an ability to secure financing for his proposal - as had previously been agreed between both parties and which is fundamental to the long-term prospects of the club - the board, which includes the owner, decided to reject the proposal unless Mr Vega could satisfy them that the club's future would not be compromised. This was not forthcoming.
In addition, the club wishes to re-confirm that it enjoys excellent relations with all its banking partners. All financial commitments are fully serviced by the club and there is no truth to suggest that any facilities will be withdrawn.
