Deal or no deal? Lauren...

So, we have some 15 players out of contract in the summer (or seeing their loans with Pompey end) it is almost time to decide who deserves a new contract and who does not deserve the drippings from my nose, well ours noses!

I was going to look at them all together, but I think I will do them one at a time... Simple question, and as the bearded one would say, 'deal or no deal?'

Lauren

He has never been the player he was at Arsenal since he came here - injury effectively ended his career and he has more often than not been a passenger here. You have to think that 'had' he been the player he was Arsene Wenger would not have allowed him to leave in the first place. For a former Arsenal teammate, in our most recent manager, not to have selected him suggested that the Cameroonian is all but washed up.

For his outburst alone he should not even be at the club now, and I would say we were surely within our rights to have terminated his contract following his 'thoughts' shared with the media around Christmas time...

The fact that we did not and the fact that he is also probably on 'decent wages', to say the least, played as much as anything with his decision to stay with Pompey until the summer 'for family reasons' I suspect!

Deal or no deal? No deal.

Not up to the job anymore and is picking up wages he does not earn and should not be getting - of course this is the clubs fault for giving it to him, and for so long. With the long-term injury he had before we signed him we should never have signed him on what, a 2-and-a-half-year contract...

For me, we should have already told him to pack his bags and sod off!

These are my thoughts, what about yours? As always please share them below...

When I say 'Played' I realise that's somewhat misleading - I meant a member of our squad.

Gino, you know what, i was almost in the same boat 'pretty much forgetting' he was still here... that was until he opened his trap over christmas, since then im constantly reminded he is still here, and he should not be!

matt, it is this 'helping of his banmk balance, which for me is the only reason he is still here - here for family reasons my arse, family reasons being 'money to help the family'... 'if' he was so in demand why did he not move on? i would not be surprised to see him on the scrap heap come the summer.

well i think its safe to say that so far we are all soundly in agreement that lauren does not deserve or warrant a new deal and will not be given one - zav even coined a phrase from me :-)

So, not keen, then, PR? No, but seriously, he has done almost nothing to justify his salary and has been, as you say, a passenger. By comparison, he makes Duffy look a bargain. NO DEAL.

well both sol and hermann have come on here and said their thoughts (we shall not be held liable if these thoughts were not from their own persons!) so i wonder if lauren will come on here and share his thoughts and defend (or maybe not) why he should have a new contract. as for me, no deal. has he even played this season. time to give the wages to someone who WANTS to play!

Neither deal or no deal seems to adequately sum up my feelings on this. I'm going to have to go with "Don't let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya, matey."

Thank you for the cue Pompey--pessimist. The guys in the dressing room had told me of this series of articles and I have been reading your comments with interest albeit with a tinge of sadness. Since the arrival of Glen Johnson I have found myself out of the team and only used as emergency cover at left back or right midfield. It has been very difficult for me to fight for a position because I have never really had a position at Portsmouth since Glen arrived, Versatility is not always a benefit in todays modern game. As for what was reported in the Spainish press during December I very much stand by it as Pompey were dismantled when Lassana and Jermain left the club. From my standpoint I did not see that a move to Blackburn or Bolton would extend my career so decided against them, why should I move or leave my family for six months. My regret is that I coud not agree personal terms with Athens. I do not expect an offer from Portsmouth prior to the close season and am resigned that I have played my last game for the club. Despite your willingness to hasten my departure I of course respect your views. Thank you.

No deal for me, the fella was a great servant for the Gooners but never really did it for me at Fratton - That said I wish him well as he has had one hell of a fortunate yet troubled life.. His autobiography will be something to look forward to

Mr Lauren... Glen johnson was actually at the club before you signed - albeit on loan, and was the first choice right back then.
