Global Warming - towards Pompey, update #2

Global Warming - towards Pompey, update #2

As you may or may not be aware pentonpompey put an idea to me back along in which we aim to find out the location of all our Vital Pompey members, particularly to see what the global spread was like.

This was the 'Roll of Honour' at its last call...

UKTony - England.
sneakay - England, Camberley in Surrey.
eastneydave - England, Portsmouth.
dthatch - Brazil, Belo Horizonte. (Pompey born)
knocker - England, Thatcham. (Pompey born)
storagematt - England, Totton. (Pompey born)
Gandor - England, Portsmouth. (Cape Town born, also lived in Italy)
Bellezza Biondi - Italy, Roma.
pompeyhouston - USA, Houston, Texas.
pompeyrug - England, Devon. (Pompey born)
Chix - England, Salisbury. (Pompey born)
harrissman - Thailand.
paulisrael - Israel, close to Eilat. (Pompey born)
Steve C - England, Chichester. (Pompey born)
nodster - Australia, Adelaide.
pompey downunder - Australia, Sydney. (Pompey born)
StuartM - New Zealand.

And penton this is what we have found out since that last update, which was some months ago - probably some 6-months or more I would think...

yellowcheesemonkey - In Dublin Ireland for a decade, Holland for 8 years before that but still PTID.

My 10 year old son is also fanatically Pompey -2 years into Footie - what a time to start following Pompey - doesn't believe the stories of away trips to Crewe.

Originally from Winchester, ended up Pompey devout in late 70's moved away but kept the faith...

mitchpompey7 - I was born in Sydney, but my grandfather is from Portsmouth, and I grew up with him, and yeah even though being born in Australia it doesn't stir up a passion like Portsmouth or England does, and am moving there in a year or so.

Sulley Fan - Hey I haven't posted anything on this for a WHILE..but I'm an AUSSIE...and I'm actually holidaying in the UK now.. I'm up in Edinburgh atm. I'm coming down to Pompey.. Well Havant and Hayling Island. This is where my mum was born I'm only a young tacker.. Sixteen years old. I am trying to get tickets for a pre season game at H&W, Bournemouth or Swindon. Hope to hear from yas soon.. btw I am born and bred in Melbourne.. CARN THE HAWKAS and PLAY UP POMPEY.

Fratton del Sol - Born in Norf London, where I followed, the great Finchley Football Club play many exciting games against the likes of Boreham Wood, Hillingdon and lots of other top class footy clubs. By rights I should have followed either Arsenal or Tottenham the two local big clubs, but as everyone at school was going on about Arsenal winning the double in 71/72 wanted to do something different, so thought I'd follow Crystal Palace cos I liked the colours, but never saw them, or even wanted too.

Eventually ended up living in Hampshire and working in Cosham. Went with a mate to watch Portsmouth vs Wolves 30/11/1992 in the North Stand Lower where we won 1-0. That was it, got hooked on a great Fratton Park atmosphere and a great Portsmouth side, especially liked Warren Neill, always thought he was undervalued by the press and stuff.

Went to the 6-1 drubbing of Millwall, where being 5-0 up Warren Aspinall came on as a sub and within 30 seconds squared up to a Millwall player and was within a whisker of being sent off. How I luv'd doughnuts from that day....great days, FA Cup semi at Arsenal great day, replay absolutely gutted. Think 4 of us in the car said 10 words for the whole journey back. Now that is all in the past, 'When Sol went up to lift the FA cup......'

Had the privilege of going to Wembley and took my son. Despite pressure from his mum (Stoke City), he's a Pompey fan , with memories of watching us beat Wigan 2-1 to stay up. It's the Pompey fans that make all the difference, real passion and never stop getting behind the team.

Now living in sunny Lee on the Solent, can't wait for the new training ground.....

hoppy_miller - Born at St Mary's in 1970, lived in Leigh Park until 1989, moved to Cape Town where is Still live.

Played for Leigh Park United and was proud to be a ball boy at a number of Pompey Home games. Was even at the game (ballboy) when we went from 4th division to 3rd and the fans stormed the pitch, what a great moment that was. I get to watch most games on TV live and sometimes in HD... Bring back memories when I watch my team Play at Fratton Park.

Squee - It's great that this site is so welcoming to 'outsiders' - on some Pompey sites you're made to feel as welcome as a pig in a synagogue if you don't live/were born within a mile of Fratton Park!

I aint got any connection to Portsmouth (although I do love visiting for obvious reasons!) but I now consider myself 'Pompey 'til I die'. A (genuine) Pompey mate took me to a few away games back in 2004 and I got bitten by the Pompey bug big time.

I'm from Chester by the way although any southerner I meet is convinced in a scouser!

powered_by_pies - Born in Southampton General, lived in Hedge End until I was three, then moved to Locks Heath, where I still live today.

Yeah, I know, to some die hard-ers, that should automatically make me a fan of 'that lot'. But I was never one to conform... ;)

Buddha14 - Born in Newcastle, Australia

First loved Pompey when we got promoted. I currently own a 2006/07 shirt cause its the only one that I found.

Just to recap this is exactly what pentonpompey wants to know - I know what he says is a bit dated, but do remember this was probably written in the summer of 2008...

I have been sat around mulling over thoughts about Pompey, as you do.

Players we're going to sign, buying my tickets for the Community Shield, which pre-season games am I going to? Blah blah blah... It was this last thought that triggered a question in my head. I wonder just how many Countries in the World do we have fans in?

We played and indeed won the Tournament last summer in Asia. We're the 2008 FA Cup winners (and all that that brings in global exposure.) We are playing in Africa as part of our summer warm up. Surely with this exposure and the Ex-Pats we must have reached all corners of the globe?

So my idea is simple.

Let us know here at Vital Pompey just where you live. Let us see just how many DIFFERENT countries we can lay claim to having Pompey supporters in. We will try to keep a regular update going and list a 'Roll of Honour'.

There will be further updates like the one above as time goes by so we know what the Pompey spread is like here on Vital Pompey and how many different countries we have reached - so share your location, wherever it might be here.

We really do reach right around the world! I know of two others who read my column but won't register who live in New Zealand. Why is Andy (penton) not on the list?

pompeygray born in Guildford, worked in Guildford, played cricket for Guildford City, lived in Farncombe, Now resident of Sydney Australia. Inherited the Pompey bug from my paternal line, and wished I was born in Portsmouth. There again if you love the club as much as me does it really matter where you are born or live ?

I feel guilty! I started this thing and haven't bothered to put down my details. Thing is I always thought then too boring to bother with. So; Born in Winchester but from Whitchurch in Hampshire. I suppose "Local" is what you could call me, or indeed a proud Hampshire hog! Mt family have been in North West Hampshire for 500yrs (Not all of those as Pompey fans). My Father Penton Sr, was evacuated from London during the war, and as a lad took regular bus trips down to Fratton from Overton (With I believe PlymouthGrahams Father!) He was hooked ever onwards. It helped my Uncle was based at Pompey in the RN. This love of Pompey was passed onto myself, my brother, and now my boys. As those of you who have met Ms Penton will know; we have now introduced her to the delights of Fratton, which isn't bad for a Norfolk/Suffolk lass. She even enjoys going to the Milton, even though she doesn't drink. I have for a total of 3yrs lived in Sussex and Germany. But the pull of Beautiful North West Hampshire has always been too great. I'm a dyed in the wool Hampshire hog i'm afraid, and so proud to call myself one! Told you it was boring!

Ps. The reason I call myself Pentonpompey, is after a Village I lived in for 8yrs called Penton Mewsey, 2 miles N.W of Hampshire. Deep in Scummers territory, which I always relish telling them about! I now reside for my sins in Andover hopefully on route back to Whitchurch later this year.

No Crawley return for Tubbs

Tubbs doesn't have a future at Pompey, he's on the transfer-list but offloading him could be difficult given his wages. These wouldn't be anywhere within Crawley's reach.

Pitfalls of Sheffield Wednesday loanee returning

As Catlin put it 'the gamble' of aiming sign Sheffield Wednesday loanee Lavery has to be one Pompey fans understand. It isn't as cut and dried as saying 'he's a free agent' sign him!

Lassie coming home...well sort of!

A-box-to-box player, capable of defensive duties, with ability to burst forward with intent to make things happen - Diarra is Pompey's man and wants an England return. I jest of course!

Will pair stay at Fratton?

It's been made (more than once) clear by Catlin Pompey want Davies & Hollands to stay. Both (also more than once) have said they want to this - deals have to be right for all concerned.
