Pompey rubbish Curbs talk

Pompey this morning moved quickly to crush rumours that ex Charlton and West Ham manager Alan Curbishley was being lined up to replace under fire boss Tony Adams.

The Daily Express overnight ran a story that Peter Storrie had met Curbishley following weekend defeat at Fulham. Curbishley is of course a columnist for the Express!! The club contacted the paper and threatened legal action if the story was not withdrawn. The paper withdrew the article from later editions and other papers that had picked up the story have also removed it from their internet editions.

The club statement said "We are astounded that neither the journalist nor a representative from the newspaper chose to check their facts with the club before going ahead and publishing the story."

However this has still not stopped the vultures circling around beleaguered Tony with bookmakers even offering odds on him being sacked by Sunday midnight!!

We at Vital Pompey all say "let the man do his job!"

Game on

Pompey have told fans not to worry about the game tomorrow. Liverpool visit Fratton Park for the tea-time televised game and after the loss on the Manchester City game recently fans feared the game would be in doubt.

The club have said that the pitch has been covered all week and heating installed to prevent freezing. With no massive frost forecast for tonight the game will go ahead as planned.

Early team news is that Steven Gerrard will definitely miss the game and Lucas Leiva is suspended. Pompey are expected to give a debut to Angel Basinas with fellow Greek deadline signing Theofanis Gekas starting on the bench.

i would like curbishley... i think he would be a good manager for us. good that Gerrard is out though! I would also like to see both of the Greeks play, so hopefully Gekas will come on.

No smoke without fire and I bet there have been some discussions with possible replacements, although Curbishley might not be one of them.

If Adams does not secure four points from the next nine Curbishley will be the next manager i think we all know that.

PS Torres will play, trust me, the pressure is on Benitez and a defeat to us would push him to the very brink.

Bloody good show. Its about time the press started taking responsibility for what they are saying and have been saying about Pompey. They have already buggered up our transfer window. How many of the signings that Tony wanted were put off by the bad press? and now they are undermining the morale of our manager, the team and the fans. How dare they? I am so bloody cross, I am going to COMBUST!!!!!!!!!

Of course there's smoke without fire when it comes to the British press, they are always making things up, this is just more Pompey bashing by the media - and I'm even seeing it spun to say 'Adams under pressure'. Leave him alone.

If curbishley comes in I might just go and hang myself, it would be less painful then watching a Curbishley lead team. (If you can't tell I am not much of a fan of his style of play).

Well done Tracyc .. For putting the record straight ..it amases me .. how B) Retract the article without apology after they are slammed by PFC
C) Despite the retraction (admission that it is wrong) some fans still wish to believe it is true..

What happened to getting behind the team ffs... The Pompey 'Doom mongers' are begining to ***** me off more than the press at the minute. If you want Curbs as your manager go support Charlton or West Ham ..Oh he got sacked from them didn't he !!!

I remember when I fist came onto this site we were talking about how fickle Spurs supporters were and by inference, I suppose, how much better we were than them. Well, at the moment, I don't really see a lot of difference - and thats a horrible thing to say.

We are riddled with speculation & that's breeds trouble. We are in some trouble so in breed speculation. Sh1t circle that we have to break by winning again.

I believe the only thing curbs said that ive seen quoted, i found interesting, was i have not had any contact with peter storrie! Not PFC or the owners! Gotta be some truth in this, adams time is limited if thngs arent turned round so why not have someone in the waiting if things dont get better!

What I find more interesting than anything Curbs said is why have The Express pulled the story from as many editions as they could after Storrie threatened to sue? Cos its crap! And even if we have a plan B in place (and I'm sure we have), the best place for it is in a folder locked in Storrie's desk - not splashed all over the papers 48 hours before an important match!

like Gandor says, we almost certainly do have a plan b and even a c in place - that is how football works with managers under pressure and of course player signings, that said for the paper to print such a disrespectful piece as they did is kicking TA and the club while they are down, eveyone is having a pop.
'some' of what the papers have printed over the months for me is true, pompey have made no threat to sue but to publically threaten to sue over this story makes me believe utterly that this is not a jackastorrie story, no approach has been made to him, and why should this be made while TA, or anyone else, is in charge that is as disrespectful, more so than the papers and we would not do that. behind the scenes there could be talks, but these talks wouldnt go as far as those 'potentially' being lined up.
TA will be fine anyway, so this is a non-starter!

I've just seen that Interview too PG .. Good wasn't it - He looks like a bloke who knows whats got to happen and is trying his best (calmly) to make it happen... Given his record at lot of managers would be showing signs of cracking .. Tony doesn't look like that wish I think give me confidence that what he is doing is the right thing...
