Pompey this morning moved quickly to crush rumours that ex Charlton and West Ham manager Alan Curbishley was being lined up to replace under fire boss Tony Adams.
The Daily Express overnight ran a story that Peter Storrie had met Curbishley following weekend defeat at Fulham. Curbishley is of course a columnist for the Express!! The club contacted the paper and threatened legal action if the story was not withdrawn. The paper withdrew the article from later editions and other papers that had picked up the story have also removed it from their internet editions.
The club statement said "We are astounded that neither the journalist nor a representative from the newspaper chose to check their facts with the club before going ahead and publishing the story."
However this has still not stopped the vultures circling around beleaguered Tony with bookmakers even offering odds on him being sacked by Sunday midnight!!
We at Vital Pompey all say "let the man do his job!"
Game on
Pompey have told fans not to worry about the game tomorrow. Liverpool visit Fratton Park for the tea-time televised game and after the loss on the Manchester City game recently fans feared the game would be in doubt.
The club have said that the pitch has been covered all week and heating installed to prevent freezing. With no massive frost forecast for tonight the game will go ahead as planned.
Early team news is that Steven Gerrard will definitely miss the game and Lucas Leiva is suspended. Pompey are expected to give a debut to Angel Basinas with fellow Greek deadline signing Theofanis Gekas starting on the bench.

B) Retract the article without apology after they are slammed by PFC
C) Despite the retraction (admission that it is wrong) some fans still wish to believe it is true..
What happened to getting behind the team ffs... The Pompey 'Doom mongers' are begining to ***** me off more than the press at the minute. If you want Curbs as your manager go support Charlton or West Ham ..Oh he got sacked from them didn't he !!!
'some' of what the papers have printed over the months for me is true, pompey have made no threat to sue but to publically threaten to sue over this story makes me believe utterly that this is not a jackastorrie story, no approach has been made to him, and why should this be made while TA, or anyone else, is in charge that is as disrespectful, more so than the papers and we would not do that. behind the scenes there could be talks, but these talks wouldnt go as far as those 'potentially' being lined up.
TA will be fine anyway, so this is a non-starter!
