Basinas ready to rumble!

Basinas ready to rumble!

New signing Angelos Basinas, hailed the 'new Pedro Mendes' by Tony Adams yesterday, has told the Pompey Site he is ready, raring and willing to go.

The midfielder is now looking to prove himself in the premier league and help us to survival: 'I'm very happy to finally land in England and come to play for Pompey. I had two years in Spain and it's a good chance to prove myself in another top league.

'When I went to Real Mallorca they were bottom of the league and in a lot worse trouble than Pompey currently are.

'I believe in myself and I also believe in the quality of the team and this is a different experience from the one I had in Spain.

'It has always been a dream to play in the Premier League and when I first heard about the interest from Portsmouth I didn't need to think about it.

'It was clear in my mind from the moment they contacted me that I wanted to play at Fratton Park.

'I don't like talking up my strengths as a player or what I will bring to Pompey because I prefer for people to see my qualities on the pitch.'

The worry with many people remains that the signing of the 33-year-old has come 'a few years too late' - as ever though I say 'lets give him a chance' before we write him off.

Basinas talks a good talk, but again - something else I also say a lot - actions need to speak louder than words...

Storrie - further interest in Pompey?
There have been a few rumblings in recent days that there had been further interest in parties wanting to take over Pompey and according to a report on the BBC Peter Storrie has told Radio Solent that there have been 'one or two interested parties but there is a process they need to go through.'

I still feel that something well happen with a buy-out, but at this point in time I cannot see anyone buying us - until we know what our future is I cannot see anyone 'taking a risk', but 'when' safety is secured I think we will hear more and something will happen in the summer.

Remaining a premier league club is essential for any take over to go through, but with sky signing a new £1bn contract with the premier league for football rights that is even more of a case that we must stay up with the massive amounts on offer to us - although would the club see much of this, or would it go into the owners pockets...

Vital Boxing - Bellew Wants Lebedev Next

Morning Rug, I do wonder some times about Adams already putting pressure in Basinas as the new Mendes. I think the fans should judge this after about 10 games not the manager. We will see what his old legs are made of up against Gerrard and Co. As for the sale of the club, it's clear Gaydamak has had his fill and wants out as quick as possible. However selling a Championship club is far more difficult than a Premier League one.

I'm encouraged by this signing, hopefully he's still a quality player! Never heard of Gekas before, but his wikipedia write up sounds good (don't they all!).

yep, my thoughts exactly, no pressure then!!! Better get the gloves & stockings out for those not used to harsh english winters!!!

The Poll is missing the point, i feel that our defensive problems this season stem from the defence not getting the same degree of protection and help from midfield as they did last year. hopefully the additions will help to rectify this starting with a clean sheet on Saturday.

totally and utterly agree SteveC, and i have voiced these opinions several times - even doing so on saturday, altho in fairness to the midfield that day (as was rightly pointed out to me) the defending was of the highest order of 'poorness'...
i will be doing a write up for what this poll does find, and rest assured i will again bang the drum of 'not getting the pretection' the likes of mendes, diarra and muntari gave us last season.

Remmber the motto of the Oakland Raiders from now on"Just Win Baby!!" Thats what it is all about, it does not have to be pretty we just need three points every game, dont be afraid of anyone and give it a go. Respect no team and no player, do what Stoke and Hull have been doing and get in their faces.

So Storrie is saying we have further interest in the sale of our Club? That'll be our very own FAC Triumph who has recently E-mailed him......

I sometimes think that Wikipedia entries are written by their mums. What's amazing is how they are always updated so damn fast.

theres millions of sad people who look through the internet all day, every day for new things about a person, then they unpdate their wiki page as soon as they know......

Options increase for Notts County

It looks as though Pompey have a near full strength squad to call upon on for the visit we'll have from Notts County. Cook probably wouldn't change much from Plymouth?
