We Have Match Off

A RIGHT OLD DAMP SQUIB

After much anticipation, yesterday’s game was called off by ref Mike Riley an hour before kick off.

No doubt Arsenal, if not their fans who were probably already occupying the local pubs, were greeting the news with jubilation ahead of their champions league match on Wednesday.

Although the pitch was no doubt carrying excess water, Pompey have been made to play on far worse in recent years (Leicester anyone?).

The match must now be replayed either next month or in May depending on European commitments by Arsenal. Pompey will be disappointed to miss out last night on an opportunity to keep their recent good run going, while Arsenal will be glad of the rest.

Next week we travel to Fulham at Craven cottage which has so far been some what of a fortress this season, but with a large traveling contingent who knows?

Play up Pompey

Paul

Personally i was very disappointed. Especially as it rained for approx 10 mins after decision was made, and never rained again until well after 7pm. And the Met office said what exactly Mr Riley?

I think it is a disgrace that it ha sbeen called off. I think of all those games played over the winter in the championship and below that get played despite freezing and snowy pitches

The Leicester match should of been called of due to the ammount of water on the pitch. Yesterday's games could of gone ahead. If Arsenal progress in the Champions League we might have to play this match rearanged for the last week of the season meaning we would of played 3 games in 8 days and not looking fresh for Liverpool's visit to Fratton Park on the Sunday

If West Brom and Birmingham keep losing, let's hope we have nothing to play for too.

I'm happy that our lads got a rest ahead of the Juve game (as long as we capitalise on it), but we could have done without the fixture pile up. The likelyhood we will win the CL is minimal, and as such, we NEED to qualify through the league.

Should it be left to the ref only to make this kind of call? How about the captains, the managers, all 4 offcials and OB having a final veto? We live in a democracy just about still!

what do you mean the Leicester game should have been called off?!! we had a great weekend in Hayling Island - got soaked by 3000 tonnes of rain (by the way your roofs leaking on the away end), and won 2-0. I'm not biased but that pitch was perfectly playable (maybe). see you next season....

The responsibility shouldn't be down to one person. We have two lineo's and a 4th official. Plus captains and Managers or the best way "Flick a Coin" or "Stone, Scissors, Paper" That would sort it out.

Nobby, It's a retracting roof, we only get it out for Special fans. At present it's still in it's wrapper. LOL

Does not look like the game being off has done Arsenal any harm!

We are keeping the roof off long enough until we realise that we are not playing Southampton again.

Certainly didnt need one when we got back to the hotel. Much as we enjoyed getting rat-arsed and then shopping at GunWharf Quays (or something weird and fishy), i have a feeling you might just scrape it and stay up. If nothing else, make sure Birmingham come down instead. touch and go....
