Pompey move for Spurs' dos Santos?

A new, and somewhat surprising name, has been added to the 'linked to Pompey' collection - this man being Spurs' Giovani dos Santos.

The teenager, who had been one of the most sought after youngsters around, has not really enjoyed a fruitful time with Spurs since his arrival and does not seem to be one of Jamie's Dads 'golden boys', so his chances of forging out a career in London look slim?

Lyon have been linked with the 19-year-old along with several teams back in his homeland of Mexico but sky sports news is under the impression that we are in talks with Spurs over a possible deal to bring him to Pompey - which would have to be a permanent deal as we are out of loan moves we can make, and 7m is being mentioned! An amount that seems unlikely, even more so seen as this is some 2m plus more than Spurs paid Barcelona in the summer.

The fella is talented, without a shadow of a doubt he has quality oozing out of him but he seems to go against the grain of what Tony Adams says he is looking for - proven premier league players who could go straight into the Pompey side and do a job...

Time will tell I guess what the score is on this one, while 'other reports' are saying that Citeh's youngster Daniel Sturridge is being courted as well. However these reports say we are looking for a loan deal, but we cannot do this as we have no more domestic loans available!

There are also some reports growing that Bolton are to offer 2m for Sean Davis, who is of course out of contract at the end of the season so will walk away for nothing should he not agree a new deal - something that we are supposedly keen on him doing? We need the bodies, but the longer that things go on without a new deal being signed the more likely it is looking that he will be leaving in the summer anyway...

So, what do we make on these 'reports' guys?

If Davis can help with our survival, that would be worth a ton more than the 2m we would lose out on if we refuse to sell him and he refuses a new contract. We need to boost numbers, not reduce them!
there are other domestic loan rumours around as stated in adjacent articles, but folks keep saying we've maxed out on loans.Giovani dos Santos would be a good buy but not at 7m, Personally I reckon that Peter Storrie has been spotted talking to spurs, the journo has reckoned it must be a desperate Tony getting a player who harry doesn't want when in fact it's spurs buying Crouch either now or n the summer, call me cynical but thats why i think we were able to get Pennant from Liverpool because Johno will be off their in the summer.I am not worried too much because up or down I think TA will do a good job for us which may include a season away from the premiership. But back to the point in question Giovani dos Santos sounds like a good buy and Sturridge has got bags of potential him and Crouch would be good i think

I see about as much truth in the Davis rumour as I see in the Crouch rumour. TA said there would be no more sales and I believe him. This is unless there is some CM coming in that we haven't heard of. I wonder why Frank's Uncle hasn't had his two bits about Gio's proposed move yet.
At face value, none of these stories make a lick of sense for the reasons already stated. So for that reason, I'm not buying into any of them. I'm prepared for the egg facial if all three have happened by the time I wake up in the morning.
I was really shocked when Spurs got Dos Santos in the summer becuase by all accounts Barca got rid of Deco and Ronaldinho because they had Dos Santos and Bojan coming through. For Dos Santos to join us would be ridiculous, but if it was to come off surely it would be a major coup, unles he is just majorly overrated. Sturridge I thought was linked with Villa, but would be yet another coup if we were to get him. Finally, Davis leaving? Please no. Selling Davis would be just like when we sold Benji, O'Neil and Taylor - it would be selling the soul and heart of our team!
Have noticed that TA doesn't seem such a fan of Traore as HR was. Is it possible that he can send back Traore to Arsenal, and take another domestic loan? The papers rarely do their homework, but am also wondering, do you remember PS "short-term deal, loan, he will be free in the summer" comment ref: Jermaine Pennant, is it possible he has signed on a short-term deal rather than a loan - Liverpool knew darn well he was off in the summer, he wasn't shifting - despite (probably) our offer of a tasty loan fee - so they sold him instead - but Pennant only signed for 6 months with an "option"? Unlikely but possible I suppose...

7m is a bleedin rip off! ive watched a few spurs games and he has been useless.. NEXT
Getting rid of Traore wouldn't bother me too much. A lot of speed down that wing but no end product!
If the reports about Dos Santos are true then I'm well chuffed! Creativity we crave? creativity we'll get in bucket loads...........
Whatever, the next couple of days will shape our future. However comes in will have to make a positive impression for our sakes!
I think it would be a good signing... and I think there could be a bit of truth in it too.
Sturridge is class.
Hopefully the window will stay open long enough because from where I am sitting the door is just about closed.
Don't really know what to make of this. I am just going to sit back and see what happens.
Spurs won't actually be making much out of the 7m, apparently Barca have a sell on clause, so Spurs won't come out of it with much more than they paid for him
would love this if it happened although the longer it takes the less likely i think, the spurs fans are in uproar by the looks of things.
I know, good isn't it?
AND would make an absolute mockery of fat Frank's uncle saying he moved cos we needed the 5m!
Does your chief scout go anywhere else than to our reserve matches? How many players is this now youve taken from our bench?
Despite my comments up top, having thought about it a bit more i suspect that this is a good deal and he will be Kranjar's replacement who is being sold in the summer. TA is building his team, and when he started at Pompey he said it will be a year or so before you see his team. WEll I am supporting him all the way. Because despite all the paper talk that has raised hopes(Saviola) or deflated us(Harewood/Faye) he hasnt signed any of them, who hehas signed has been 1, NB. 2. GJ& RH extended contracts. 3,HM and 4 JP either a loan or short term deal. Well i was upset by HM a little but have now changed my mind and see TA is doing well. The team are losing, but all my mates( non Pompey) say they played well, so i believe them, and look to the hammers who were stinking till they beat us and went on a run. we can take hope. today i predict 2-0 win to Pompey at the cottage.
plymouth graham
Fair point HuddersfieldYiddo, we'll sell him back to you in 12 months for 15M :-)
hes not made spurs bench today......
Dos Santos has bags of talent and I recon he could do well for us. Not sure about 7m but I am sure that might be a figure that could down. Just because he has not settled in the spurs first team doesn't mean he can't be class. He might be tempted to join Lyon though as they have Champions League football.
agreed fee of 4.5mil according to the quay. good buy at that!
stop it pessimist, ill start believing it.....
fingers crossed, lets hope we hear something from TA on this after the game...
jamies dad on bbc saying no1 is leaving white hart lane ... for that alone i would say its a done deal! lol.
Spurs Vital site opinion is mixed, a bit like this club. i would sell Davis asap
plymouth graham
on the bbc the text says no one is leaving spurs but he doesnt say that in the video.
graham... why? he shows more passion than anyone else at the club, is solid, reliable, and rarely gives the ball away... in fact, I would more consider making him captain than selling him!
This Spurs reject is not the answer!! Adams has just taken a 19 year old on loan, who also comes with a big reputation, do not waste the small amount of money we have on this player please!!
He is out of contract in the summer, he cant shoot and i feel he does lose the ball, we have others who can do that job as well as him so swell him and buy a creative midfielder now ad a speedy clever forward
plymouth graham
I found out a very interesting bit about Gio, his agent is Pini Zahavi. Maybe there is something much bigger than transfering a player going on.
He is not the answer, do not buy him, and waste money on him.
i think pompeyhouston might be on to something there..i like it.
a little bit of south american flair might be just what we need.
nodster, your wrong Santos has been quite effective esp before he got injured. ruffcider, your right there are a lot of fans that do not want to see this happen but we have a few too many youngsters that have potential and cannot accommodate them and Santos may be sacrificed, if you get him you are IMO onto a winner long term but short term he may take a little time to produce! I personally don't want him to leave but as we all know Spurs have been a laughing stock lately and its like a blooody circus and anything could happen!
