'If It's Football, It's Vital'

I have heard enough

I don't know about you, but I have heard enough!

I have heard enough "We are going down" talk
I have heard enough "We are preparing for the championship" discussion
I have heard enough "We are broke" conversations
I have heard enough "We should sack Tony Adams" chat
I have heard enough "I do not trust Peter Storrie" talk
I have heard enough "We will never move to a new stadium" discussion
I have heard enough "We will never replace Diarra" quotes
I have heard enough "We are signing has-beens" conversations
I have heard enough "The training ground will never happen" chat
I have heard enough ill informed idiots on the Quay
I have heard enough "If Sandra's husband had not left.." quotes
I have heard enough "Sasha will not invest anymore" speak
I have heard enough "Our squad is not strong enough" chat

In a nut shell

I have heard enough negativity and doom & gloom about OUR club.

Don't get me wrong, I am not wearing 'Rose Tinted Glasses'. I am informed enough to know that we have a few problems that need attention and I am not, for one minute, suggesting we all stick our heads in the sand and forget about them, but it is time to stop moaning and it is time for some positive thinking

We have a Manager who despite his track record is determined to make things work
We have a Chief Executive who is seeking out the best 'value for money' signings he can find
We have Champions League & UEFA Cup winners in our squad
We sell players to Real Madrid and get enquiries from Milan, Inter, Barcelona
We have a home ground with one of the best atmospheres in the country
We have 15 or so players who we know will die for the cause
We have seen European Football at Fratton Park
We buy players from Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool etc.
We have the FA Cup in our trophy cabinet
We have an cash-strapped owner who will not sell unless it benefits the club
We have the go-ahead for a new training complex
We have Kranjcar, Johnson, Crouch & James. European internationals that play for our team.
We have players who have played in the World Cup finals on our books
We have a fantastic Youth Academy
We have Premiership status

And above all else

We have arguably the most passionate fans in England

It is time to stop "We are not good enough"
It is time to stop "We are going down"
It is time to stop "Sack Tony Adams"

It is time to stop thinking negatively

What we have is what we have - It is time to accept it and get on with what we do best 'SUPPORTING' our club.

It is time to for ALL OF US to take a good hard look and realise what matters is NOW

It is time for YOU to get behind YOUR team and show Tony and the lads that WE are 100% behind them in OUR fight for premiership survival

It is time for POMPEY FANS everywhere to stand up and be counted

I am number 1

Who is going to join me?

"I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our Island home, to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone…. ………..We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old."

Hear Hear. Well said - work colleagues have asked me why I don't want TA out - simple answer is just because I don't like what him in charge is doing doesn't change the fact that he's in charge - I can pi$$ and moan all I want but it won't change anything!! Let's get behind our manager, and support our team - there are about 16 other teams in this relegation dogfight - if only three are to go down, then I like those odds.

ursula k
i do not really think that i need to add my name do i, i think i keep making my thoughts on where i stand perfectly clear... but just incase im not, im well and truely on this bandwagon, hell ive been leading it :-)

Mr Landlord Rug
I know how all the negativity really gets to you at times and in spite of it all you have remain positive (even when you were poorly!) A true inspiration mate - That's what you are

Br>Who else is going to join our merry throng - I'd love to see a few new posters (like Ursula) come on and offer their support - Afterall we are Pompey - Let's stand together
Chix
Do we get special badges with are allocated numbers? Where do i sign
nodster
I see someone already beat me to a Patrick McGoohan reference, so I'll just have to stick with saying that I've been vocally behind the manager and the players for some time now, and I intend to stay that way.
PhilTaglia
agree with ya mate. saying that, today i had a serious case of "TA out" pumping through my body. im now on the 5050. (read the campbell/saviola remarks). im just not sure hes the man for the job. theres luck and theres an inexplicable amount of "unluck". i think we reached a point whereby its not about luck now. against villa we dominated but now the little dwarf left to go bum jamies dad we have no RECOGNISED goal poacher and we end up passing back all the time, for saviola would have filled that gap and ta going public saying he only wants fit players to me seems niave, which I think he is also tactically. i have no quarms with the team in general, with sacha, with peter storrie, glad the training ground WILL happen, gutted the stadium WONT happen. things could be worse, we could support southampton ... they really have NO money and have no chance of coming back to the prem for a considerable amount of time! i just wish we would stop playing players out of position, dodgy tactics, bad substitutions etc. we will stay up but, and i mean this in the nicest possible way, we will do it in typical pompey style (on the last day!) lol. peace =)
pompey--pessimist
Chix, you can't be No 1 cos you are too late. I am. Had a blazing row in the middle of the Hospice Reception where I volunteer to work on a Thursday. It was all about Fat Frank's Uncle and the state of the team now. Some ill informed old bag had the temerity to stick up for Him and slag our team off. Gave the old cow a right telling off at the top of my voice and now I am in disgrace!
Gandor1
arr man i go out for the night and now i'm like number 100 =( humph or is that too negative ;P i would leave it at that but i don't wana telling off from the prof so i'll say something serious; i couldn't agree more its time to get behind our team the best we can and maybe if where all positive enough we might even get some luck, wow just imagine how that'd feel
pompeym@
Cut my arm, and I bleed blue, For I am Pompey, through and through. I will not give up. I will not surrender. I am a PORTSMOUTH FC supporter. And I will be until the day the very last breath exits my body. WE WILL RISE. WE WILL SURVIVE. WE WILL THIRIVE. FOR WE ARE PORTSMOUTH, AND WE ARE HERE TO STAY. BLUE ARMY! BLUE ARMY! BLUE ARMY! I know you are blue through and through and despite you outlook will always back the team - Interestingly I think the Saviola thing is bold rather than naive - He obviously had reports (of the medical flavour) which suggests Saviola is not up to the required standard - It take a hell of a lot of bottle to stand by your convictions knowing that some fans are baying for your blood and you yourself are desperate to bring a striker in - I'd give Tony 10 out of 10 for this one on guts alone - Keep the Faith
Chix

There is a difference between being negative & being realistic. A difference between being positive & blind faith. I said back in October the problems we would encounter once 'he' left. I have no satisfaction in saying up to now, most of my realisim has been correct. That hasn't stopped me from going to see Pompey at every home match & all the away games in Europe & thinking about the club I love everyday. I, am hopeful that we will survive, if only just.

I know where you come from mate and in fairness who did predict this predicament and you should of course always stand up for what you believe - I have even agreed with you at times.. to a point. But I feel that we have no control over the situation as it stand and I also believe that the players and managers are trying their damndest to get us out of this situation - As I see it all we can do is get behind then and show them that we are on their side and want the same for Pompey as they do
Chix
Hey, I'll have a babycham!! Count me In. You know my name, now give me a number !!!!
BarneyArmy
BarneyArmy
I've lost count of numbers but how does No.42 grab ya - The number of points we'll end up with (minimum) this years - That's just 5 wins and three draws... or 4 wins and 6 draws.. That'll do me nicely - We could lose the next 8 games and still do it easily..
Chix
Hear Hear Chix, spot on. Lets all for christ sake get behind the team, whatever 11 are put out on our hallowed turf and give them something to play for. A couple of good results and we are back up in the top ten where we belong. Don't think there is any Manager out there in present climate that we could afford who would be able to do a better job. At the end of the day if you put out on paper a good team and your international striker doesn't put away a sitter then there is not a lot else you can do, yes alright take him off I hear the shouts, but even Rooney misses on occassions! Lets just hope (and Im sure we will), get the right partner for Crouchie and get us back up the table.
blarmy
I'd say add me to the list, but I never left the list =p Pompey through and through! And I totally understand where TA and PS are coming from with the fitness lark. It will take them 4 weeks to get match fit, and then there's no guarantee that they will gel with the team! I also think people have lost sight of what the January Transfer window is for! It was NEVER intended to be an opportunity to rebuild a squad. It's just too short a time. It was only intended to bring in 1 or 2 new faces to strengthen where the team is suffering (through injuries etc). With the window only being 1 month clubs but massive price tags on their players, because they are scared they won't be able to find a replacement...a la Blackburn and Santa Cruz. With TA/PS getting in players on Loan it's exactly what we need. Get us through this season keep us in the premiership then spend the summer bringing in the right players at the right price, and more importantly, at the right wage. Panic buying in January will only ever result in paying over the odds (Barton £5million!?) and paying too much in wages...I'm totally behind TA, it's a steep learning curve as manager but he admits when he was wrong and 'seems' to learn from his mistakes... PLAY UP POMPEY!
Bowlsey
Blarmy and Bowlsey
My top two favorite posters I read when I'm at work and can never respond to on time (I'm off today - Hence the response now) - Before I read your comment you both need to follow my link and 'read this' Scroll down the comments until near the end .. There's a message for the pair of you
Chix
Also would like to add that just because some second bit rag paper 'links' us to a s*% player doesn't mean we were ever interested! Even TA/PS know it would be ridiculous to bring back Amdy Faye! You have to remember the media is trying to sell papers! Not report the truth! So take EVERY player we're linked to with a pinch of salt (you do this with the world class players we're linked too, why don't you with the 2nd rate ones!?)
Bowlsey
Well better late than never I will enter my support. Mr positive you can call me (maybe except the whole Saviola thing). ALL WAYS LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE, DA DO DA DO DA DO.
9 teams in the relegation fight and only 3 can go down. That gives us 66% chance of staying up! I like our chances! And with a couple wins, or non-wins for WBA then it may only leave 2 spaces increasing our chances! Happy Days are coming! (everyone click there fingers like the Fonz!)
sneakay
I saw your post chix :) thanks for the tribute, I did get goosebumps reading you article...and again when plymouth graham quoted Sir Winston Churchill, and then a third time with Gino's Pompey Prayer! PLAY UP POMPEY!
Bowlsey
whoops, a nice touch of strikethrough rather than boldlol
sneakay
Blarmy
I agree with eveything you say .. and a fox in the box is what we need.. that or at least somebody to run onto Crouchy's through balls - Crouchy is paired right could be used as the creative spark we are all hoping for... but he needs the right partner..
Chix
Bowlsey
A good shout with the Andy Faye link... I saw a paper suggest we bring in GELSON Fernandes on LOAN to compliment Pennant - I think they had picked up on the MANUEL Ferandes story and put two and two together and came out with a totally inept article - They had not even researched the fact that we already have TWO domestic loan players.
Chix
Sneaks
Hello mate - Long time no see - Clicking my fingers? .. I've even greased back my hair and put a leather jacket on..
Chix
Class article ...a bit of positivity TABWA
yellowcheesemonkey
I've only posted a few times but have been following the debate this month. Firstly I would like to say well done Chix for this article we don't want of becoming a load moaning Newcastle fans! TA has made some choices that confuse me but he is the manager and because of this he gets my 100% backing on what he does. We need to get behind the team like we did when we achieved the great escape. The fans were certainly loader and prouder with less moaning about what's going on. Let's better that season PUP!
zav
Good on ya fella, i've been on about people being positive all week, isnt that right Graham LOL. Benjani to pompey for £4m, i wouldn't say no would you.......
tommo3146
hey guys - sorry haven't looked at the site for about a day, so I'm a bit late - but I'm in. Players, Manager, Fans - we are all in this together and must create positivity. I'll be singing my heart out for the lads at Craven Cottage - any other Pompey Vital members going?
tracyc
YellowCheeseMonkey
I still think that log-on will take some beating - Thanks for the comments my friend .. TABWA indeed..
Chix
Tommo
It's all about positive thinking .. Let's not let the moaners get us down.. That Plymouth Graham
bloke is a real trouble maker .. He comes on here stirs things up then disappears for a day or so back to his ship waiting in Plymouth harbour - I don't reckon he's ever been to Fratton Park in his life..
Chix
... Sorry Gray just couldn't resist it .. I would love to see a picture of you in Naval Uniform (not for that reason !!) .. you've have to have your hair cut..
Chix
Zav
Welcome aboard the good ship Vital Pompey (what is it with me and sailors today?) I quite agree about the last thing we want to become is known for being negative and moaning all the time - That's not the Pompey way.. Interestingly you have hit on something I have been thinking about..Is it me or were we more 'bonded' and therefore more passionate about the Great Escape than we were when we won the Cup ? I might get my thinking cap on that subject and knock up an article next week..
Chix
Tracy
No apologies needed... I already knew we could count on your support - Personally I'm not going tomorrow but I will be on Match Day Live so I'll be listening and commenting on your voice..
Chix
SING IT LOUD ''IM POMPEY AND PROUD !!!''
tommo3146
Chix..You are awful...but I like you. My Granddad was a Pompey sailor, man and boy, and my Nan told me it was lucky to touch a sailors dickie. As for me, Im from North Hampshire (Overton boys we are ere ooh ooh) and going by my luck Ive never touched a sailors dickie, but i will do if it will get us up hte table .I will kiss the sailors plimsoles if it can arrange a relegation for Sir Henry Bovinus Excrementus and his Cock and Ball crowd. (The Dickie is i believe the blue flap across the shoulders on a ratings uniform-either that or nan was very rude)
plymouth graham
Carlos Vela and Fran Merida to Fratton Park is the latest news ive seen. This kid ( Vela)is going to be a massive star and i would advise TA to grab the chance Now if there is any truth in the rumour. Strangely I was thinking this the other day when it looked like we were not going to go for Saviola. but also "Strangely" today i got strong de ja vu when Gary Megson was on the radio and felt sure he was going to get sacked in the next few days. so that should prove there is nothing mystical about my brain...well the wife might disaagree
plymouth graham
The ting about this rumour is that it is apparently a loan....But considering we have our full quota of Domestic loanee's its not true. Unless they want Traore back... :/
Bowlsey
Graham, I posted that too but it was then pointed out that we have our domestic loan quota so they'd have be permanent. Also, don't think we can loan two from the same club anyway - already have Traore from Arsenal. Could we afford them as permanent signings (not being negative)? Would Arsenal sell?
NinjaTim
I'll go with PlymouthG wotever that was, I never quite got to the end
russellm
Paper talk again, nobody is coming in to the club, despite all the talk from Honest Peter Storrie, I look forward to seeing all you optimists at Fulham tomorrow getting behind the team. This could and should be Adams final chance, we are running out of matches and time, so if you do care then show it by turning out!!
Owenspompey
I'm here!! Count me in. Chix, since I got back from OZ, tbh, I just havn't got back into the internet thing so much. Count me in on the positive, I got fed up when all you guys (I know it's your right and your opinion to write it etc etc etc) started not even calling 'arry by his name. I'm of a different opinion, he was the best thing that ever happened to this club, and Defoe, fox in the box I just read, that was him, all of a sudden we think he's not all that. Well, my opinion, for what it's worth is that 'arry was great for us, and Defoe was, and still is a great goalscorer. Nuff said from me, but yep, I'll be positive but also realistic. We need more quality through the middle of midfield....But, I'll always get the family section gooing, and Chix, this year, I'd be happy to be able to sing WE ARE STAYING UP SAY WE ARE STAYING UP!!!
pompey4me
papaer talk... yes. However: 1) Vela changed the game when he came on against us - otherwhys we WOULD have held out for a draw. 2) would it be possible to make one of our loan signings (traore maybe?) permanant?
pompeycarpet
Glad you could make it Simon!! We were all wondering where you were. Working or some excuse I bet?
eastneydave
Hello Dave, TBH, I've got so much going on right now I don't get much time to come on here, BUT I'm as much behind the team now as ever, I just don't understand some decisions that are made, thats all!
pompey4me
Well I will continue to add my vote of support and I think only good things are ahead of us. (Plus I think Newcastle and Blackburn will have to fight between themselves for that last spot).
pompeywa
I might go tomorow, Tracie. I have a friend with a flat near the ground, so if I can get a ticket, I am going to go.
Gandor1
Gandor you can pay on he gate!!
eastneydave
You can pay on the day, lets hope that all the fans claiming to be loyal are going to make the effort and get to Craven Cottage.
