'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Saviola deal really is on?

It has rumbled on for a number of weeks now, with Peter Storrie saying back along 'there was a deal to be done' with the Argentinean international striker Javier Saviola.

To be honest few of us believed it, but this 'sensational swoop' - as The News calls it, which to be fair I do not think is overdoing it - could well just come off you know guys and a 6-month loan deal from Madrid is said to be inching ever closer.

In fact The News says that Saviola could be paraded as a new signing at Fratton tonight ahead of the game with Villa...

We need a world-class spark to lift the players, the fans and the club in general, and should we pull off this remarkable deal, which seemed almost unthinkable, then this would do exactly that!

Tony Adams has also revealed that he was in the running for Emile Heskey, but Villa beat him to his signature...

Not exactly going down to Ladbrokes and putting my mortgage on this one...go on, Peter, shock me!!!
Have heard Spurs have entered the race along with Newcastle and Everton. Come, Mr Storrie, close this one - don't let him get away!
Apparently, we're also interested in bringing Amdy Faye back from Stoke and Gelson Fernandes from City.
Glad we didnt get Heskey.. Saviola would be very nice indeed
Spurs are after everyone that we are associated with
Anyone got Jamie's Dad's mobile number? Call him and keep his line busy till Sav signs. Although he'd be one of those blokes with about four different phones.
In 2005 Savioala was listed by FIFA as one of the top 125 living footballers in the world. I hope he hasn't gone off the boil in the past four years!
Saviola is quality. If we can get him it will be a real coup and may well be the catalyst to get our season back on track. Come on Saviola - put pen to paper NOW!
If he is at the game tonight that will be fantastic. Well done Tony if this one comes off!
It will be great if he signs. Really give us a buzz around Fratton Park again.
Defoe, Defoe where ever you may be. You can stick the ball right up your Ar5e coz now we've got Javi!
Hope that is not being a bit to early! lol

Things are certainly starting to buzz on the transfer bush telegraph - why have we had to wait so long? Or is it clubs won't start selling until the last week? Saviola would be a good start and get things moving.
So if we sign him, where will he play in TA's favoured 451 system. At left back or are we about to sell Crouch?
theres a worrying bit of gossip on the suns gossip site, about saviola and psv.......ive not seen it anywhere else though and they dont like us, so hopefully....
For the last three years before kick off and at half time during the transfer windows, iv held my breath hoping for a signing to be revealed. Maybe tonight is the night?
jbaker - When we played Porto in a pre-season friendly (Summer 06?), Sol was paraded, and if you had a pair of binos, you could make out Jamo sitting further up too!
scott mc
sounds good, but really a good signing?? thanks to TA can't be true!!! hope it is though, he would be amazing to have! would really help us as well
Well, it's even on Wikipedia that he could be paraded tonight before kick-off. How daft will we look if this falls through?
COME ON POMPEY ... this will be amazing! saviola -> pompey shirt = wtf lol!
pleease... pretty please?
Its five o clock and no Sav. If we sign him, I will show my ar5e at Craven Cottage right in front of Al-Fayed
Just been watching some vids on utube...Wow!!! Saviola's class..Top Class. Get him the ball in front of goal and he's danger man extraordinaire. Please may it be true, just the shot in the arm we need but change of system needed to accommodate him
But, PSV have put in a bid to sign him..... It all remains to be seen. The dutch league is so easy for a striker to perform well in, look at Alves of Heerenveen, he score about goals every games there, and comes to england and looks bad. PSV would be a lazy choise.
he would be the SAVIOr-LA! saviolafan - as his biggest fan (i presume!) could you get him to have a chat with mr diarra - he will tell him that he can use pompey as a platform to rejuvenate his career. heres how it goes - 6 month loan, 3 year contract at the end (nice wages ;)) then after 6-12 months we can sell him to a BIG club (man utd, chelsea (not spurs though im affraid!)) and he gets a BIG club, BIG wages and pompey get a BIG profit. all in all, happy people, with happy faces, everyones a winner baby! ... of course, you may not have the savs number in which case I guess we will have to hope he reads my "non-characteristic" optimistic message!
he wont come..but as i was watching tonight i thought when he watches this either on the box or at FP, he will definately think he can score goals for this team
plymouth graham
It seems PSV are now favourites but I agree with Plymouth Graham he'd score a hat-ful in a Pompey shirt given the amount we created but couldn't bury tonight.. I still think this will be an amazing signing but the longer it goes on the less likely is it that it is gonna come off I think.. My money is on PSV - Let's hope I lose !
his quote about psvs interest is this- "They have been following me for a long time, and this is an opportunity I can not pass up."
Except Ruffcider he is actually not quoted as saying that .. well he is but not one paper can quote a course - It's all gone quiet hasn't it which does suggest we've locked him in a cupboard or he is speaking to PSV - The next couple of days will tell no doubt !
