Emerson and Saviola next?

According to quotes attributed to Milan midfielder Emerson's agent Vincenzo Morabito in The Mail the Brazilian will be joining Pompey shortly: 'we are negotiating on behalf of Portsmouth and Milan are ready to sell the player.

'Emerson's contract will run out next June and we must consider that.

'It remains to be seen what his decision will be. He would probably want an 18-month contract.'

This is expected to be a loan until the end of the season, but his agent seems to be suggesting an 18-month deal will see him here right away?

To be honest I would much rather 'try before we buy' despite the obvious talent the Brazilian has.

Another that is expected to make the loan move to Pompey is Madrid's Javier Saviola.

'Reports' claim the Argentine striker has 'snubbed' Everton and Newcastle in favour of Pompey and will be at Fratton to watch us face Villa tomorrow ahead of a loan until the end of the season?

As said earlier, big names arriving could happen, but for me will only happen on loan - and is that such a bad thing...

Don't be fooled by Emerson, he wasn't good in his prime at Juventus let alone now. He doesn't have the pace for the Premiership. Jav Sav would be good though, even if he is another mercenary player.

These 2 players will revolutionise the team. Emerson is a 'legend' and considered by many, at least a few years past, the worlds best defensive midfielder. Saviola was told in certain terms he will not get on the pitch at madrid, it seems he has finally decsided to use his quite considerable skills rather than sit about at the bernabeu.

Sounds good, hopefully we will get him, he should be a good player to have. maybe we can start winning a few games! If we're really lucky he may cause us to stay up, (if we get him in time)

wow is this for real?? i honestly wasn't expecting any 'big' name signings after mullins and pele not to knock them of course as i think they will do a job, but emerson and saviola just wow if we can pull this off i think it'd be great for the club AS LONG AS they both are up for a scrap otherwise they can b*gger off we do not need another JD

why buy an OAP defensive midfielder?...to make Sol look quick? don't sound inspiring to me in fact it sound down right bargain basement shopping to me. Saviola, he will go to Everton or Newcasle lets be honest either that or he aint good enough, no one turns Everton down when they have no strikers to come to Pompey..get real, or in Saviolas case get ( out of ) Real

Emerson, a luxury...possibly. But looking at the overall transfer policy of the past 3 weeks, there is a pattern emerging on the sort of players that TA is trying to bring in if 'reports' are to be believed. From his time in Holland and METGOD at his side it looks like we are looking at a very Dutch style of play, and I can see us eventually moving to a 3-5-2 formation so we are able to boss the midfield more. With the signing made so far, and potential signings this is possible: example: james(gk) Distin, Kaboul, Sol(CB's) Emerson in front to shore things up and has the ability to play some killer balls. Traore/Belhadj on the left Johnson on the right. Davis/Diop(CM) PELE/Kranjar/Pennant(CAM/Floating role), Saviola and Crouchie up front. The extra bodies brought in to fill the midfield positions will give us plenty of options, whether in a 4-4-2, 4-5-1 or a 4-3-3. This should keep us going to the summer, I think the future is bright......the future is Pompey

Harrisman.. the tactical debate is definately one we should have - I wrote an article on it last year ... I might just dig it out and replublish to get the debate started as in light of Metgood (as you say) things are afoot.. but I'm not sure we will see it this season I think we'll see 451 with a smattering of 442 if we are lucky.. but again that depends on the player that get brought in..

..As for Saviola and Emerson.. I'd be overjoyed with the the Little Rabbit as he is class and could grace Fratton Park.. forget ADA this guy is pure Agentinian genius I hope if we do get him we see glimpses of the player he used to be as a few glimpes will bring us a few points here and there

As for Emerson, I think this is a bit different he is getting on and I worry about his pace and fitness level .. and talk of an 18 month contract for a 35 year old... Not sure that's wise.. but if he can get us just a few points that'll do I suppose..

I'm not convinced by either to be honest, still have this thing in my mind that there's going to be 2 big announcements in the next couple of weeks. The first being the club has been sold, Gaydamak will have made of with the £50m for Sulley, Diarra and Defoe and cut some of his losses. The second being the removal of Adams, he's done his job, steadied the ship, sold off the valuable assets and brought in a couple of 2nd raters to make up the numbers. Watch this space!

emerson aint 35 yet chixy, he is 'only' 32!
i am not quite sure how he could be classed a 'luxury' player tho - surely someone the likes of niko is a 'luxury' player, people like berkovic in the past are those types... someone that sits in the midfield to break things up and shield the defence surely cannot be a luxury can they?
look at makelele, never blessed with pace, did that stop him doing his job... but hey, who needs emerson when you've got mullins lol!

saviola on the other hand, that would be a luxury player - but what a luxury player, i would pay my money alone to see him. we need a real spark to see our season through, if we could bring him in this will do it...
