Is Mullins The Man ?

Newspapers and Newswires have been busy overnight suggesting that West Ham's Hayden Mullins is set for a £1m (or is it £2m) switch to Pompey.

It is reported that Defensive Midfielder Mullins (29) is being allowed to leave Upton Park as part of the cost cutting measures forced on Gianfranco Zola

Apparently the club's have agreed a fee and the ex-England Under-21 who has scored 4 goals in 178 games since moving to Upton Park from Crystal Palace for £800,000 in 2003 will travel to Portsmouth today for a medical

So what do you think?

Is Mullins the Man
to sit in front of our back four ?

Will he be up for the relegation scrap we find ourselves in ?

If we believe what we read in the papers this one looks like a done deal, although the statements that Mullins will be Lassana Diarra's replacement make me chuckle as at 10 or even 20% of the cost of Lassana I very much doubt he will be. But Mullins is an battle hardened premiership player who has experience of a relegation scrap so at the risk of sounding desperate... I guess he'll do.

lets be honest for just one or two million he isnt going to be the worlds best player, and knowing are, not brilliant, manager he's probably pretty crap. If he still had Harry he would find a brilliant youngster or two for a few pence each, and they would come in and work wonders, but 2mil to replace Diarra?? I really dont think it will work.

but better than nothing? Surely he can't be as ineffectual as the centre midfield I was forced to watch on Saturday. btw did you hear TA saying "I'm not going anywhere" on Sky this morning...off by Thursday do you think??

and another thing...Burnley are claiming JD was cup-tied for Carling and shouldn;'t have played in that second leg. If God really is a seasider, Spurs will have to cede the match to Burnley. However, Harry can't be THAT stupid...

Remember just a few years ago, Scumpton reacxhed the cup final played in the UEFA cup, at one time were pushing for top 6 (they actually were fourth in the December)? The Board lost their nerve, lost a good manager, sold their best players - where are they now? Much as we might delight in their plight, it should be a warning to us. This is turning into a f***ing SHAMBLES!

We've signed Pele! Well at least we'll get some headlines for this.

Is Mullins the perfect replacement for Lassana Diarra? I hardly think so! Why would West Ham - who are in as much trouble as anybody - sell someone who is similar to Lassana Diarra?! We need to get someone in who is able to motivate the team and instill confidence - a Paul Merson type who can inspire an average team to victory through sheer motivation. Unfortunately, I can't think of anyone like that who will be available on the cheap!

confirmed on official site - pele and mullins signed. for once i dont think im overjoyed at these prospects. at least we have more midfielders.

Pele is very good. When Inter signed Quaresma, Pele joined Porto in exchange. There were a lot of disgruntled Inter fans who didn't want to see such a good prospect leave. I don't know why it hasn't worked out at Porto though?

Well I can't comment on Pele because I know nothing about him - let's just hope he shares his namesake's skill. And I hope that Mullins proves me wrong, just like Nugent has.

Mullins? dear oh dear. this smacks of desperation to me, looks like tony and peter freaked out on saturday night. I'm happy to be proved wrong, but i'm really not hopeful. Is he any better than davis or hughes? I dont think so. Storrie has said we're still looking for a striker and maybe another midfielder... 8 more days and at least we'll know. (Happy with pele though, from what ive seen he is class)

Well we need bodies & we have bodies. Laughable to suggest Mullins is in replavce Diarra. Very doubtful if we will ever replace the great little fella. Mullins will have hit the deck running. Pele an unknown quantity, he has the talent, he just may take a bit of tome adjusting. Do we have time.

Tbh i saw a fair few west ham games over the last few years (friend is a supporter) and Mullins has been pretty good. He works hard and never gives up. I doubt he was brought in to replace diarra though. he isn't that good. (I'm sure he won fans player of the year at some point...but might be mistaken). What we need now is that creative midfield spark... Which i don't think we will see this window. Unfortunately the january window just isn't designed to be able to rebuild squads. Everyone has over inflated prices. Summer window is best place for that. I think we have gotten player that will hopefully tie us over into the prem next year. Then the real rebuilding can begin. I just hope we have enough to survive...thanfully we're not the only team this season to be having an awful time...lets just hope 3 others have MORE awful seasons than us.

Anyone who names himself pele has a lot to live up to. 'Vítor Hugo Gomes Passos' however shows some promise and at 21 has played for inter, but was swaped with Quaresma who inter wanted. Not completely a hard working or reliable player though.

Sneaky fella that Pele, everyone thought he was only here to present Ronaldo with his world player of the year trophy, but TA knew what he was doing.......... seriously,if the guy has any class he'll be a valuable addition to an uninspiring group of midfielders who huff and puff a lot but create very little. Maybe being outplayed by Swansea has even given Tony a kick up the backside ! Here's hoping ........ Play Up Pompey

Carps .. You said ... "If he still had Harry he would find a brilliant youngster or two for a few pence each, and they would come in and work wonders"... OR He would spend £6m on potential that is never lived up to .... How quickly you forget .. for every Diarra and Muntari.. there is a Utaka and Nugent !
