One last bid for O'Neil/Vieira no go

Reports today are claiming that Pompey will make one last attempt to bring Gary O'Neil back to the club from Boro - and this deal 'could' be completed today?

It is said that his agents are 'pleading' with Boro for him to be allowed to leave, something that will become all the more likely should Boro complete the signing of Ben Watson, and a fee has been agreed.

£2.5m is being mentioned, which almost certainly would not be enough - considering we already had a £4.5m offer rejected!

I remain convinced that O'Neil will return to Fratton, but this all hinges on Watson joining Boro, which hopefully from our point of view he will.

One player that will not be joining Pompey though is Patrick Vieira.

The Inter man, who of course is a former Arsenal teammate of Tony Adams, has been strongly linked with Pompey but this will not be happening, well not this month anyway?

We would welcome back GON, we need his energy & ability to get crosses in & score a few goals. Hope it happens.

(OK I know the answer to this question already but...) where the hell is all the wonga from the Diarra/Defoe sales?

Do we expect anything to happen today? Tony was convinced that he would have a couple more players by the weekend. Poulsen and O'Neil maybe? Barnetta?

Who knows what to believe with some of the garbage that comes out of Pompey these days, you have Bullard being linked with Hull, Hunt being linked with Wigan. These are 2 players I would have in my team all day long and both available for around 5M. As we have not declared an interest in either then I can only believe that our finances are not as Storrie would have us believe and that we are skint!

Money has obvioulsy been converted to roubles some time ago

bluedr - I suppose they are not players Tony wants. He has drawn up his list and Storrie has the job of getting them. The other thing is money of course hsb but again Tony has been told to cut the wage bill by 25% and Bullard was after big money which is why he is leaving Fulham. And Matt IF Gary comes home he will play in the middle so no no crosses but hopefully a few goals.

dave, I'm not sure the wages are the problem, can't believe Poulson/Viera would have been cheap. I'm amazed that a player of Bullards ability would choose Hull over Pompey if we had made an offer. A sign of players confidence in our club.

Fingers crossed Gary O comes back! Boro were saying no players to leave, but it seems Mido is on his way, so why not Gary as well? Mr Storrie needs to pull his finger out though - just next week to go now!

Very true tracy. Saw Southgate last night saying he was allowing Mido to talk to Wigan.

Wigan have stepped in to speak to Watson, so maybe Gary O will need to unpack those bags again!

Hull have signed Bullard for 5m & Heskey has gone to Villa for 3.5m.

Aren't you glad YOUR jobs aren't handled like this? I suppose the money is more than adequate compensation but it must be a weird old experience.

I don't think there is anything sinister going on. It just amazes me how many knockback everyone is getting. Not just us, but everyone.

Amazing for the Defoe fee, we could have got Hunt, Bullard and Heskey which probably would have sorted 95% of our problems out. I wouldn't let Storrie run my bath!

The Ben Watson thing has fallen through. His wage demands (20k) were too rich for Boro. (Newsnow).

OMG!!!!...sorry to change the subject slightly, but Ive just seen an artical about DJ carrying an injury. Now, not a very interesting bit of news you might say, but here's a quote "former Pompey manager Harry Redknapp said that James had told him he is struggling and was worried he would end up out of action"......my blood **** boils!!!!! SHUT UP AND ****** OFF HARRY!!!!!!!.....what right has he got to talk about our players/club now???!?!?!?....Im sick to the back teeth of him now, I know its not a big dig at us, but just the fact he keeps on yapping an yapping is making me sick!!!!.....Im losing more and more respect by the day...

charlie - that quote was from right after the spurs game.I think we had a big rant about it back then :-). As for O'Neil... am i going to be completly shouted down, if I say we DON'T need him? In my opinion, he is a player that plays with commitment, energy, and is a solid paser of te ball. we already have diavis in that role, and diop... and hughes. OK, we need another midfielder in, but personally, I would rather have someone that was technickly a little better that could link up well alongside kranjcar.

ah! i see.....and agree with you on the O'Neil point, we have plenty of "workers" in the mid, I would like to see more flair and maybe a dominant force to go with it!

Hooray..some one else agrees with me too, I am not convinced about having Gario back either. I think we best just forget it all guys .. either No One is coming in and we will go down with a championship squad once the cherry' are picked, or TA get's stiffed by the board and only get OAPs like Dacourt -who could hack it even when he was fit,let alone now, or some free transfer out of contract african mercenary. I wanted Hunt, and Bulard too and Delph, but it aint gonna happen fellas every week we get told new signings are expected by the weekend, or early next week... We are in the doo doo big time boy and no one wants to buy us because we have no assets

Whilst I agree about Gario graham... i disagree about being in the doo. we have some truly top quality players in our side, and are only 1 midfielder short of a great team. ok, gario isn;t that man, but if we get just ONE midfieler in (which I am 100% confident we will) then I will think it has been a good (well, ok, we lost diara - but that was expected) transfer window.

oh carpet mate give us a whiff of that optimism Mine keeps getting taken away. I know.., I enjoyed the performances against Bristol City and the spuds but i keep seeing that good players are slipping away and we keep getting linked with CARP ones

Madrid should loan pompey diarra back until summer as a sign of thanks. He cant be played the champions league because of the rules and i think if he came back he would help win many games.
