One last bid for O'Neil/Vieira no go

One last bid for O'Neil/Vieira no go

Reports today are claiming that Pompey will make one last attempt to bring Gary O'Neil back to the club from Boro - and this deal 'could' be completed today?

It is said that his agents are 'pleading' with Boro for him to be allowed to leave, something that will become all the more likely should Boro complete the signing of Ben Watson, and a fee has been agreed.

£2.5m is being mentioned, which almost certainly would not be enough - considering we already had a £4.5m offer rejected!

I remain convinced that O'Neil will return to Fratton, but this all hinges on Watson joining Boro, which hopefully from our point of view he will.

One player that will not be joining Pompey though is Patrick Vieira.

The Inter man, who of course is a former Arsenal teammate of Tony Adams, has been strongly linked with Pompey but this will not be happening, well not this month anyway?

We would welcome back GON, we need his energy & ability to get crosses in & score a few goals. Hope it happens.

Do we expect anything to happen today? Tony was convinced that he would have a couple more players by the weekend. Poulsen and O'Neil maybe? Barnetta?

Who knows what to believe with some of the garbage that comes out of Pompey these days, you have Bullard being linked with Hull, Hunt being linked with Wigan. These are 2 players I would have in my team all day long and both available for around 5M. As we have not declared an interest in either then I can only believe that our finances are not as Storrie would have us believe and that we are skint!

bluedr - I suppose they are not players Tony wants. He has drawn up his list and Storrie has the job of getting them. The other thing is money of course hsb but again Tony has been told to cut the wage bill by 25% and Bullard was after big money which is why he is leaving Fulham. And Matt IF Gary comes home he will play in the middle so no no crosses but hopefully a few goals.

dave, I'm not sure the wages are the problem, can't believe Poulson/Viera would have been cheap. I'm amazed that a player of Bullards ability would choose Hull over Pompey if we had made an offer. A sign of players confidence in our club.

Fingers crossed Gary O comes back! Boro were saying no players to leave, but it seems Mido is on his way, so why not Gary as well? Mr Storrie needs to pull his finger out though - just next week to go now!

Very true tracy. Saw Southgate last night saying he was allowing Mido to talk to Wigan.

Wigan have stepped in to speak to Watson, so maybe Gary O will need to unpack those bags again!

On this day in history...13th February

A look back at this day in history, and what was happening with Pompey courtesy of our sister site PompeyRama, 13th February.

Big Ben returns!

There's no doubting how important Davies is to us, we most definitely missed the former Sheffield United man against Orient but Cook's confirmed he'll start against Bristol Rovers.

Winning over the fans

Cook feels he still has to 'win over a proportion' of the fans at Pompey?

Tubbs surprised...in a way he has a point

5-goals in a combined total of 8-matches isn't a bad return is it so having made his move to Eastleigh this week I get Tubbs' point at his surprise Cook wasn't selecting him.
