Adams hoping for 'a few' by the weekend

Adams hoping for 'a few' by the weekend

Technically, of course Nadir Belhadj was out first signing of the transfer window - but that was always going to happen, so Jermaine Pennant became the first on Tuesday.

Peter Storrie has been off to Spain and Italy trying to thrash out deals and Tony Adams is expecting the loaning of the Liverpool winger to be the first of many, with him believing that we 'could' maybe even 'should' have another face or two by the weekend - now that would be fantastic!

More than 100 players have been looked at in recent weeks, but that illusive central midfielder is something that we desperately need - and I feel certain that we will get him, or them, by the time the window slams shut on, what, Monday 2nd February at midnight.

Name after name is being 'linked', others are being kept very hush, hush.

Edu and Gary O'Neil had been at the top of this list, and deals were close but seem off now - at least until the summer?

Patrick Vieira has been mentioned countless times with his name very prominent again now, but the thought is injury will rule this out, but the summer could, and again maybe would see a deal to bring him in from Inter go through?

Christian Poulsen is being heavily linked, with a move 'way down the line' for the Juventus man. He is not thought to want to leave the Italian side, but they are said to want him out - and permanently, not on loan as we are seeking, with £5m being mentioned.

We have all had our say in recent weeks, and I feel these dealings are getting closer - if we have to wait until the last minute, which I still feel we will with some, then so be it, but I am confident that a central midfielder will come in by the weekend, and possibly another by the end of the month, and an extra striker on loan would not go a miss, but that might be a touch greedy!

I am sticking to O'Neil being one of them, I think Boro are closing in on signing Ben Watson, his arrival for me will pave the way for our former captain to return - and I think I would be putting my money on that.

To be fair, and I have knocked Storrie again this month at times, I think that he is working very hard to get players in - we have to do deals that are for the best of Pompey, money wise - transfer fees and wages - and players actually wanting to play for the club and give their all for it wise, and we are getting there!

lets not start prasing storrie too early rug wait till at least the weekend lol but i agree i think he has been working hard and the deals he has said were 'close' have actually fallen through instead of being none exsistant or maybe thats just blind faith talking =D i can never tell

Given the money we made on Diarra and Defoe, £5M doesn't seem unreasonable for a quality midfield general. It's the same money being asked for Barton and this would be a foreign thug, so we'd have a much better case of plausible deniability.

we need a midfielder. simple as that - then I can't really see why we can't finish in the top half of the table - and even retain our fa cup!

This does seem to be a very frustrating Transfer window and everyone is getting knockbacks all the time, so it is reasonable to assume that a few deals have gone bellyup on Peter Storrie. I said earlier I thought we were going to go to the wire this month and I can see all of us up until midnight on the 2nd February mopping fevered brows!

Just think, a few years back and the headline would've been "Adams' hoping for a few at the weekend"
21/01/2009 21:21:00
Or Adams had a few at the weekend I agree that if Boro get Watson they may change their minds about O'Neill, he would give us a bit more depth in the squad.

I like this Poulsen. watched a vid of him on youtube, would love to see some fight and tanasity (please excuse my spelling, not greatly educated!) in the mid. Shawn and Hughes are great work horses, but we need that Muntari type of presents back!
21/01/2009 22:46:00
for me, as much as i must admit i was not disappointed to see him leave, muntari is the player that we have missed most this season - the good that he did clearly went unseen by so many, myself included... it was a fantastic deal tho for all concerned.
'if'/'when' watson signs for boro i think we will see o'neil return sharpish, in time for swansea?

Sometimes I just wish the club would say nothing rather than raise hopes and dissapoint. I'd like to see at least 3 new faces in by the end of the window. I still think 1 or 2 may leave and we should try and cash in on John Utaka who has been a great dissapointment.

Sadly we are a different Pompey since 'you know' left. We will struggle to bring in the quality of old for a long time. The money ain't there & the team is peceived not be on the up anymore. Realisim has truly kicked in.
