JP 'compromise', Saviola on, Edu and O'Neil off!

JP 'compromise', Saviola on, Edu and O'Neil off!

Still a fair amount of talking but no actions taking place - but hopefully the positive talks that are being spoken will yield some actions next week, and my 'negative', or 'doomy' vibe is swaying back to my normal 'positive' or 'glass half full' vibe and I am optimistic we will see some movement next week...

As we know Liverpool accepted and offer for Jermaine Pennant yesterday, but it is 'said' that the winger does not want to come to Pompey - however in a compromise he 'might' be willing to join us on loan until the summer. Oh, how very decent of you! I am hearing that our proposal is actually a loan approach anyway, so if that is the case this would suit us anyway... I am still not keen on the fella, but at the end of the day Liverpool would not have signed him if he had not impressed at Birmingham, and of course given a run of games his best would should shown?

Argentinean superstar, or is 'superstar' over-hyping Javier Saviola? I do not think so, but maybe I am biased? Anyway, Peter Storrie has confirmed an interest in the player, and by all accounts it is now down to Tony Adams to decide if he actually wants the Madrid man? As unlikely as this deal might seem, or seemed, a spin off of the Lassie deal could make it feasible... 'Coup of the season' has been mentioned to me, time will tell if this can be the case!

Edu and Gary O'Neil - the two that I most felt would sign for us! - are off the menu for sure though, with Storrie confirming that Valencia have decided they do not want to sell until the summer, so our proposed loan deal is off. As for O'Neil, Boro have stood firm on their stance on him, and hats off to them for doing so, as much as I would have liked them to have backed down!

Storrie remains insistent that deals are being worked on and expects 4 players to arrive next week, I am more optimistic that we will see some action next week - we better had though as he had promised players by this weekend...

Morning all - Re Pennant I (like the rest of you I reckon) only want to see him come if his heart is in it - We shouldn't waste money on players that don't want to be here - although I guess we must trust Tonys assessment on that one. Saviola has the potential to be fantastic, he might have fallen out of favour at Brca and not lived up to expectations at Madrid but remember we are taking Madrid and Barca for heavens sake - It wasn't that long ago we were getting excited about Vincent Pericard because he had been on Juve 's books - The fact that he never payed for them didn't seen to matter did it. Edu and Gary O is a shame but we move on in the hope that Peter Storrie wil deliver.. I'm sure he will.

do we need another striker though? its actually the position of least concern for me, and surely his wages would be pretty big....i would rather money spent where needed.

Hi ya 'ruffcider' welcome to Vital Pompey. I agree with you that a striker isn't top priority for me it's TWO central midfielders on that can hold deep and the other who can playmake - I'm sure (well hoping really) that the Pennant and Saviola deals have just 'come out' first rather than be priorities but I am a little concerned if Edu and GON have both fallen through as they would have been names that Tony and Peter where sure about - Targets 1 & 2 even - I hope they have other lined up following the loss of these two.. I'm sure they will have (for sure read HOPE !)

Yeah seems more likely now Gleams doesn't it and with Pompey having failed on these two Newcastle will hold out/demand more of a price I reckon

hello chix, im worried that saviola would force us back to 4-4-2 and we need clean sheets right how, something we struggle to do without the extra man in midfield. i think the strikers we have are varied in styles enough not to need him, and if its pace, without tracking back, (defoe style) then utaka. i thought we'd discovered gold when he was first introduced in the strikers role. i just think its wasteful. we need to give johnson someone to play with and a strong midfield,

Storrie has deflected things once again, he is really a master at defending his position. Once a gain a week will pass and nothing will happen, if we were serious about purchasing players we would all know. Why would any of these so called big name players want to come to Fratton, even Barton would not come, the latest big name is Edmilson, another load of rubbish to keep us all pacified. Tomorrow we will face Spurs with Kaboul in midfield and with Nugent on the right wing.In this formation we will get beaten by Spurs and all be on the website complaining about the team, the management and our prospects. What would please me more than anything is a bit of honesty from Storrie and Adams, if nobody is coming in tell us, and then we will know how much trouble we are in, what is annoying is this little bit of hope we are given when we think that players are on their way to us.

pennant, barton and an extra cm. crouch as the lone striker. im with ruff, javier would be a fantastic signing, bigger prospect then defoe? but were to weak at the back.

I don't know what Peter Storrie was doing saying we "almost had done deals". Our offer for Pennant wasn't accepted until Thursday and Saviola seems an almost new deal. No other offers had been accepted at the time, so why did he say what he said. Whatever happens from now on we will have to start from scratch again, so I don't see anyone in next week either, except Saviola. Sounds to me Barton was all talk so far as well. Stayed glued to the Computer all day yesterday even though I had an eye infection, and that has made it worse. I am not a happy bunny, Mr. Storrie!

On one of the other links some of the contributers have commented on why Fred (Lyon) would choose Stoke over Pompey. Get real lads Stoke have as much, and more to offer than us. A brand new stadium with all modern facilities, and a proper training facility across the road from the ground, and a chairman who is investing in the type of players to battle to get them into the top half of the table. Dont get all pompous and arrogant lads, we are forgetting what a second rate outfit we are becoming.
