Pompey issue a message to fans

Pompey issue a message to fans

Pompey have issued a statement on the Official web site to all fans travelling to White Hart Lane next Sunday for the game with Tottenham Hotspur (kick off 4pm). Both clubs are obviously concerned over rising tensions as the game approaches. The statement reads -

'Portsmouth Football Club urges supporters to be on their best behaviour when they visit White Hart Lane for the Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday week.

The indecent abuse directed at Pompey captain Sol Campbell by Spurs supporters when the sides met at Fratton Park in September - and subsequent police action - meant the return fixture in north London was already under the microscope.

But Harry Redknapp`s move from Pompey to Tottenham, followed by Jermain Defoe`s switch to White Hart Lane earlier this week, means the game, which is live on Sky, is the subject of even greater attention.

With the possibility of heightened tension we implore our travelling supporters to maintain their excellent reputation as ambassadors for Portsmouth Football Club.

In a meeting with Pompey this week, the safety team at White Hart Lane spoke highly of the behaviour of travelling Blues fans on past visits.

We do not want that opinion to change.

Any fans involved in indecent chanting or disorder will be dealt with by Portsmouth Football Club, with the possibility of a lifetime ban. They will also be dealt with by the police.

Please don`t let your club down`.

I'm actually going to WHL and will be sitting in the Spurs end (one of my very good friends holds a season ticket and got me a ticket). I won't be stirring trouble, but I am fearing for my life if I'm found out! I'm seriously hoping though that the majority of fans on both sides will rise above it and it'll be a good game.

Please let there be no trouble. We need to give out a lot of stick, but I hope the Pompey fans don't descend to the level of the Spurs fans. In the absence of any nearby premier league teams this season, this is the closest we have to a derby match, and emotions run high. I hope, whatever happens on the pitch, we don't bring shame on the club - a certain manager's done his best to do that enough already. By the way - 'you can stick your loyalty bonus up your @' fits to the tune of 'if you're happy and you know it'.

Anyone attending should take their Lemsip with them to prevent the catching of random colds from little forwards!

I'm not sure where I'm sitting - wouldn't say anyway, don't want to give my position away! I think I might borrow my mate's Spurs scarf too - don't worry fellow Pompey fans, it's only because I value my life!!
