'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Pompey issue a message to fans

Pompey have issued a statement on the Official web site to all fans travelling to White Hart Lane next Sunday for the game with Tottenham Hotspur (kick off 4pm). Both clubs are obviously concerned over rising tensions as the game approaches. The statement reads -

'Portsmouth Football Club urges supporters to be on their best behaviour when they visit White Hart Lane for the Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday week.

The indecent abuse directed at Pompey captain Sol Campbell by Spurs supporters when the sides met at Fratton Park in September - and subsequent police action - meant the return fixture in north London was already under the microscope.

But Harry Redknapp`s move from Pompey to Tottenham, followed by Jermain Defoe`s switch to White Hart Lane earlier this week, means the game, which is live on Sky, is the subject of even greater attention.

With the possibility of heightened tension we implore our travelling supporters to maintain their excellent reputation as ambassadors for Portsmouth Football Club.

In a meeting with Pompey this week, the safety team at White Hart Lane spoke highly of the behaviour of travelling Blues fans on past visits.

We do not want that opinion to change.

Any fans involved in indecent chanting or disorder will be dealt with by Portsmouth Football Club, with the possibility of a lifetime ban. They will also be dealt with by the police.

Please don`t let your club down`.

I make no comment and leave that to others.
I'm actually going to WHL and will be sitting in the Spurs end (one of my very good friends holds a season ticket and got me a ticket). I won't be stirring trouble, but I am fearing for my life if I'm found out! I'm seriously hoping though that the majority of fans on both sides will rise above it and it'll be a good game.
PFC, where are you sitting? what stand. I hope for your sake it aint the south to the away fans. If so I wouldnt even bother going. Infact wherever it is dont make a noise if you score. ha
Please let there be no trouble. We need to give out a lot of stick, but I hope the Pompey fans don't descend to the level of the Spurs fans. In the absence of any nearby premier league teams this season, this is the closest we have to a derby match, and emotions run high. I hope, whatever happens on the pitch, we don't bring shame on the club - a certain manager's done his best to do that enough already. By the way - 'you can stick your loyalty bonus up your @' fits to the tune of 'if you're happy and you know it'.
Rise above it - show them we're better than that.
I foresee a right bounce-up. sadly. Bet the North London police don't help matters either
lets do our talking on the pitch.
and screaming at the telly! Whoever goes, come back safely & have 3 pts in the bag please.
Anyone attending should take their Lemsip with them to prevent the catching of random colds from little forwards!
I'm not sure where I'm sitting - wouldn't say anyway, don't want to give my position away! I think I might borrow my mate's Spurs scarf too - don't worry fellow Pompey fans, it's only because I value my life!!
Don't blame you Gino. I saw a programme the other night about Alan Sugar and his tenure at Spurs. What the fans did to him and his family was SCAREEEEE! Lord only knows what they would do to you! I watched the semi final at Wembley at the Baggies end, they were lovely
I'll be there on Sunday. On my best behaviour and hopefully not the only one. Going with my boss whos a spurs fan but i'm sitting in the pompey end, couldnt stand to sit with him and his.
I've survived the Southampton end at The Dell (Don't ask me why I went, I was about 10!) so I reckon I can survive WHL. In the words of Kevin Keegan, I would LOVE IT if we beat them, just LOVE IT!
i reckon a very good game on our hands as all of our players will want to show harry how good they are.Come on boys 3 points will do
stfc ballboy
Wooo, i'm going, first away game this season. Does anyone know where the "Pompey" pubs are near Tottenham?
No idea jbaker... I'm not old enough :-). This wll be my THIRD away game of the season (wooo, wooo!) - although so far, I havn't seen us score. doh!). Can't wait!
If theres enough of us going, we could find somewhere to meet up before the game.
PFCGino - I was on the Southampton end at the Dell on that famous day in 1988!! Felt quite safe as I seemed to recognise everyone around me!
Police box is sat directly above the away fans at white hart lane so they are in a great position to watch us, so only good banter what we are known for, & 3pts then walk out with a smile on your face. PUP
A very big week for all connected with Pompey. Have to beat Bristol City & certainly don't want to lose to Spurs. 'If' we lose to BC in the cup, what a pathetic attempt of a defence & will take some gloss of the fact we can't go on about what we won. Secondly, lose to Spurs & they will go above us for the first time this season!!! New manager please.
Weren't we bottom after the chelsea game :P
You know what I mean!
I've had a bet with labrookes today that the most commonly spoken word from either set of fans will be Judas! Would love to see us take three points but just can't see it at the mo - I'd settle for a point ... coming back from 4-0 down to snatch a draw in the dying seconds .. who do you think would score ?? ... Spot on... David Nugent !
Or one of Tony's signings, so Harry can't say that it was his fault for bringing Nugent to Pompey.
Everyone in the media has their knives out for Pompey. They're dying for us to slip up. We just have to be sure not to give them an excuse.
That's all well and good but Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp blasted his players after their 1-0 defeat at Wigan, claiming he needs "more men" to help Spurs avoid relegation. Ha ha ha ha ha, ha ha ha ha, ha ha, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, ha ha ha ha, ha ha, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, ha ha ha ha, ha ha, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, ha ha ha ha, ha ha, ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, ha ha ha ha, ha ha, ha ha ha ha ha ha !
I wonder if all the foul mouthed Spurs fans involved in the Sol Campbell abuse are banned from this game???
To all going, take it easy
If, as many here, seem to think, the press have got it in for Pompey, let's not give them any more reason. Cool heads please, on and off the pitch. PLAY UP POMPEY!
I would love Sol to score! but then I don't really care who scores as long as it goes in the right net. Play up Pompey - lets win this pleeeeeze.
Just a thought - where's the statement from Tottenham/Harry asking fans not to repeat the abuse against Campbell?
