Pompey v Citeh - CALLED OFF!

Our game with Citeh today has been called off due to a frozen pitch, something that had been feared for most of the week.

A pitch inspection started at 9am, and finally around 10.30ish Mike Dean deemed the pitch unplayable - hot air blowers have been working round the clock since Wednesday but with temperatures below freezing most days this week nothing could be done to save the game.

The main problem area was thought to be in the middle of the pitch, which gave me some hope it could go ahead, but now I - and thousands of others are left disappointed, I feel for those that have made long, long journeys prior to today and during today...

From the games point of view playing today would have been ideal for us as Citeh have injury problems and have not really signed the 'star names' expected just yet, by the time the rearranged game comes around chances are they will have - at least we 'should' have also added some steel in midfield!

Lady luck has gone away on a very very long holiday, anyone heard from her lately?
Gandor1
as matt said to me a minute ago, even the gods are against us!
pompeyrug
No worry Ruggers - I assume you had already travelled down ?
Chix
Sorry guys - I reckon this is my fault! First time I'd have been going to Fratton since late September, and I had Victory Lounge tickets and all so I've been looking forward to this for well over a month - Sod's Law strikes again.

We Have to a change of luck soon surley, so when is it on possible the week begining 20th january or if we don't get passed Bristol City (please no) on the Saturday (4th round FA Cup) Citeh don,t have a game then.
pompeyyong
guess so pyong. that would be logical but knowing the premier league they'll try and put it between a midweek and a saturday kick off.

Talk about luck Anyone watching the Bromie derby, Villa have had all ours this season Ubelieveble

A fantastic chance for 3 points today!!! Whatever we did to get the game on, it wasn't goos enough. The next time we play citeh, Ireland won't be suspended, Robinho & SWP will be fit & they'll have £50m of new talent!!! The could be a very costly game to have had cancelled.

yep, i had left - luckily on friday, altho i had to miss work because of it, having all sorts of trouble re-arranging what day i work due to cup replay, i might even end up having to go unpaid...
pompeyrug
i really think we would have won today, yep citeh 'should' have new talent when we do play them but its not going to be the 'super talent' that has been spoken about! that wont arrive until the summer, if it even does... at the same time 'if' we are getting new players in this also gives us time to get them.
pompeyrug
It may have been a good time to play City but they probably thought the same about us. It's a rare occurence for games to be called off for any reason at FP and with City still involved in Europe may still work in our favour.

Anyone seen the reports of a bid for Manuel Fernandes? That would be a fantastic acquisition, I loved him when he was here. I could see a nice midfield developing with Traore (Left), Kranjcar (Attacking Mid supporting Crouch), Davis (Central), Fernandes (Defensive Mid) and hopefully a pacey right winger.

All clubs in EPL should have undersoil heating total disgrace that there is not a rule in place to make this happen!

Feel slightly less embarrassed by Fulham calling theirs off at 1.30pm which gave even less chance for the poor sods from Blackburn to not set out. I was on a train south of Petersfield when I heard but changed plans and spend the afternoon at my mum's eating a big fry up with a mug of tea and watching Soccer Special. Hope they can schedule a replay on a Sat or Sun as it is tough for me to get down for a week-night.

dannybhoy - are you aware as to how much it costs to install, and then run?! I have no idea when the last time a game at FP was called off, but I a can't remember there being a week where the temprature has stayed below freezing all the time. OK, it's iritating to hav one game called off, but financially, it's simply not a viable option for all clubs, particually in the current financial climate. It's like throwing money away!
pompeycarpet
its not that expensive far cheaper than some of the stupid transfer fees & OTT wages paid in EPL. If clubs in SPL can afford to do it then there is know excuse for clubs in EPL not doing this FFS Hibernian first installed it in the 1970s wise up !
dannybhoy46
but it IS expensive when you consdier nhow often it would be used. This is the first time since the 1980s that we have had a game called off (and I think there was another in the 70s(?)) - the cost PER USAGE is just not viable. Particually as we will hopefully be mooving to a nw stadium soon anyway!
pompeycarpet
Dannybhoy if you care to check up i doubt you'll find one Portsmouth home game called off due to a frozen pitch, or snow in the last 10 years before today, bet that stacks up pretty well against scottish cancellations in the same period.
Steve C
Steve i am pretty sure that is the case @portsmouth ,but i still think the EFA should make sure that all clubs in EPL should have undersoil heating FFS if Hamilton Accies can manage it dont see how clubs in EPL cant !
dannybhoy46
Prem Clubs should have undersoil heating, others in lower divisions do.
