Pompey v Man City - IT'S OFF

Pompey v Man City - IT'S OFF

Just checked on the likihood of todays game and the club have issued this statement on the official site.

Referee Mike Dean will inspect the Fratton Park pitch this morning to see if today`s Premier League match against Manchester City can go ahead.

Temperatures last night dipped to below -7 degrees centigrade and have been well below freezing every night this week.

Earlier this week a dozen diesel heaters were hired to blow hot air on the pitch as ground staff did everything possible to ensure the game went ahead.

It doesn't mention what time the inspection will be but I'd check first before travelling.

Hopefully all will be ok - As soon as we know Vital Pompey will update you via the comments on this article.

Update @ 10:30 - Quay radio have confirmed today's game will no longer go ahead !

09:00 - It's nine now - I'm hoping that the inspection will be no later than 11:00 given I generally leave about 11:30. Poor Rug left yesterday and Citeh fans will probably be leaving about now !

Reading the subtext, the bit about diesel heaters, and the 'still' sub-zero temps, means, I fear, that they know the match will not take place - shame, good time to play them!

Fck it. The injuries & suspension & poor form they are in, let alone the fact they havn't really gone mad buying players = best time to play them, even in our current state. The gods are doing us any favours at the moment.

The journey down is a long way, I hope that news one way or the other comes soon for the travelling fans. If it goes on It is usually a good open games between usually bags of goals for either side and we both need the points and to stop the rot.

Evans - Right back or right midfield?

Drew Talbot and Adam Buxton are fit but Gareth Evans continues to fill in at right back. Should this change? If so where would it leave the battle between Evans and Carl Baker?
