Defoe deal confirmed
Pompey have just confirmed that Jermain Defoe`s transfer to Tottenham Hotspur has been completed. All manner of rumours had been circulating in the last few days about what had been going on but thankfully a line can now be drawn under the affair.
Tony to ignore boo boys
Tony Adams has told Pompey fans that despite the side being booed off in their last two home games he will stick with the 4-5-1 formation that he has employed recently.
Adams told the News 'It's their prerogative. They pay their money and can say what they like, and they pretty much do. I get on with my job. I fight and work for this football club. I have a good chairman and a good owner.
'I'm just going to battle on with my job and do the best I can with the resources I have. If they don't like it, it's up to them. I'm doing the best I can. I'm the first one in and the last to leave every day.
Early team news suggests that Robinho may miss the game but that Wayne Bridge, always a popular visitor to Fratton, will make his City debut. Robinho is struggling with a thigh injury and will miss out along with Steven Ireland (suspended) and Shaun Wright-Phillips (hamstring).
Barton in demand
Joey Barton the Newcastle United midfield star has been mentioned constantly recently as a Pompey target. Rumours are now circulating that both Spurs and Bolton are interested and have made bids.
Barton's agent, Willie McKay, has denied that Spurs have made an offer but confirmed that Bolton had bid £2million for his client. He also confirmed that Pompey had made an enquiry.
The Barton interest could be clouded by the fact that Sylvain Distin has still to give evidence in a case involving the ex City player.
Niko next for new deal
The News are reporting that Niko Krancjar has been offered a contract extension to 2013 and that 'encouraging progress' is being made in negotiations.
Both Richard Hughes and Sean Davis were seen in a Portsmouth Hotel this week with their representatives discussing terms and it is also hoped that Glen Johnson will sign his contract extension in the next few days.
Cold night in Fratton
Last night was absolutely freezing in downtown Portsmouth and judging from the surface of Milton Park this morning the pitch at adjacent Fratton Park will have taken a hammering. Let's hope the hot air blowers brought in to prepare the pitch fror Saturday's clash with Manchester City have done the job.
A frost is again forecast for tonight with the milder weather due to spread in on Saturday. However, if the pitch is already frozen that may come too late to save the City game.
Newcastle at home for Kids
The draw for the next round of the FA Youth Cup has been made and if Pompey dispose of holders Manchester City next Wednesday they will have another home tie with Newcastle United or Queen`s Park Rangers in the 5th Round.
'Mac' Hermann?
The Daily Mirror this morning is reporting that popular defender Herman Hreidarsson is set to become the latest player to leave Fratton Park by joining Celtic in a £500,000 deal.
