The Sun sees plenty of arrivals!
Pompey are not going to be busy as far as players coming in goes during the January transfer window? Well, completely the opposite 'according' to The Sun today...
More talks about Joey Barton rumble on with a suicidal fee of £5m mentioned - yet another reason why we should look elsewhere, oh and another is the fact that his agent is Willie McKay! I was hoping with Harry Redknapp gone we would no longer deal with Mr McKay.
The report went on to mention Gary O'Neil, and 'apparently' he will also be signed for £5m, and as the midfield swells we will bring in Tony Adams' former Arsenal teammate Edu on loan from Valencia for the remainder of the season - with that loan said to be close to completion.
Also, and finally the inevitable link in print has arrived - I cannot recall actually seeing anyone print this yet - Benjani is another target as we look to fill the Jermain Defoe void, also in the papers with apparent difficulties rumbling on about his move and who helped him finalise it and how much of a 'loyalty bonus' he will get from us! Citeh probably will let Benjani go but the link is far to easy and stinks of a 'lazy link' - also, with McKay his representative I worry about us being involved with him again. Did we not just get fined and he given a 'suspended punishment' for our dealings with him and the part he played in bringing the Zimbabwean to and then from Pompey? Using him again to bring him back is sure to breach these same rules again...
So, The Sun will have us believe that 3 midfielders and a striker will be arriving shortly, with the lot probably costing a combined £10m-£15m - I cannot see it myself, but there you go, time will tell!
Interestingly enough the same report actually did say that Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson could move to Newcastle for as little as £2.5m. The fella might be 30 and just back from injury, but he has played in the premier league before so it is not new to him. His time with Blackburn might have ended poorly, but I seem to recall that he actually did do quite well. That price tag, for a player of his experience and quality, would be worth it would it not?

Kanu off to Italy?
I stumbled across an article on FansFC, which said that Kanu was being 'linked' with a return to Italy to play for Fiorentina in a £2m move.
To be honest I would not have minded if 'the King' had moved on last summer, but seen as he has stayed I am not sure if letting him go this month is such a wise move afterall - problem is he is likely to be one of our top earners so getting him off the wage bill would probably be something that would seriously be considered, as would getting £2m for a player out of contract in the summer!
All in all though I am not even that convinced by this link - I cannot recall FansFC ever coming out with an 'exclusive' that has actually come off...
