My, we will be busy!

My, we will be busy!

The Sun sees plenty of arrivals!
Pompey are not going to be busy as far as players coming in goes during the January transfer window? Well, completely the opposite 'according' to The Sun today...

More talks about Joey Barton rumble on with a suicidal fee of £5m mentioned - yet another reason why we should look elsewhere, oh and another is the fact that his agent is Willie McKay! I was hoping with Harry Redknapp gone we would no longer deal with Mr McKay.

The report went on to mention Gary O'Neil, and 'apparently' he will also be signed for £5m, and as the midfield swells we will bring in Tony Adams' former Arsenal teammate Edu on loan from Valencia for the remainder of the season - with that loan said to be close to completion.

Also, and finally the inevitable link in print has arrived - I cannot recall actually seeing anyone print this yet - Benjani is another target as we look to fill the Jermain Defoe void, also in the papers with apparent difficulties rumbling on about his move and who helped him finalise it and how much of a 'loyalty bonus' he will get from us! Citeh probably will let Benjani go but the link is far to easy and stinks of a 'lazy link' - also, with McKay his representative I worry about us being involved with him again. Did we not just get fined and he given a 'suspended punishment' for our dealings with him and the part he played in bringing the Zimbabwean to and then from Pompey? Using him again to bring him back is sure to breach these same rules again...

So, The Sun will have us believe that 3 midfielders and a striker will be arriving shortly, with the lot probably costing a combined £10m-£15m - I cannot see it myself, but there you go, time will tell!

Interestingly enough the same report actually did say that Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson could move to Newcastle for as little as £2.5m. The fella might be 30 and just back from injury, but he has played in the premier league before so it is not new to him. His time with Blackburn might have ended poorly, but I seem to recall that he actually did do quite well. That price tag, for a player of his experience and quality, would be worth it would it not?

==========

Kanu off to Italy?
I stumbled across an article on FansFC, which said that Kanu was being 'linked' with a return to Italy to play for Fiorentina in a £2m move.

To be honest I would not have minded if 'the King' had moved on last summer, but seen as he has stayed I am not sure if letting him go this month is such a wise move afterall - problem is he is likely to be one of our top earners so getting him off the wage bill would probably be something that would seriously be considered, as would getting £2m for a player out of contract in the summer!

All in all though I am not even that convinced by this link - I cannot recall FansFC ever coming out with an 'exclusive' that has actually come off...

Speculation everyday everywhere, some of it could happen, you just don't which. We need some injection of good news, positive purchases & 3 points on Saturday.

agreed about the 3 points, the last 2 "struggling" sides have come to FP and won comfortably citeh would leapfrog us as well if we dont get something. our goal difference is shocking as well! when wigan beat us they where in the bottom 3 and are now 7th, just shows you only need 1 or 2 results to go your ways and to get some confidence back. Heres hoping the catalyst will be saturday! PUP!!!

Newcastle were trying to sell Barton in the Summer for £2m and couldn't flog him to anyone. I really can't see how Newcastle could now command a £5m figure! That being said not sure i'd want him here. For sure he's got the ability to play here, but he could very well end up being a disruption. O'Neil for £5m is well worth it, I never wanted him to leave and was absolutely shocked when he left! Edu on Loan is well worth the gamble tbh, we are short in that area and anything to swell the numbers without having to buy is good imho. Banjani back? I would definitely take that. The guy worked his socks off when he was here and started to bang the goals in. get him back at cut price? yes please. I can see Kanu leaving tbh. I imagine he's on high wages, i highly doubt he'll go for £2m though! Perhaps £500k? or maybe even free if his wages are high!

We do indeed seem to get linked to the same personnel in every single transfer window, even with Arry out the door..... The joys of the internet.

I'd love Benjani back but I heard rumours of Bolton, Boro and, believe it or not, QPR, going in for him.

Benjani and crouch could definitely work, and crouch will leave in the summer if not this january. Barton at any price below 3 million would be ok for me pref as a loan with a view. Gary O Niel at £3m definitely. I read NUFC were in for Mendes at £1.5 m, that has to be complete nuts. The guy is scoring great goals up there and has cost £3m. I would have him back

Benjani and Crouch would be a solid front line, i rekon Oneil and Edu could provide the midfield spark we need as well.. Nice to here some incoming players for once

Seems to be loads of stories but no facts. Club apparently furious with Spurs for parading Defoe tuesday night when a fee hasn't been agreed! (where the hell did that come from. Defoe apparently demanding 700k loyalty bonus (do what?) Kanu has been a big game player for us but if someone offers 2 million then take it as his contract is running down, that said i like kanu he makes things happen and if he had a bit more pace he'd be awesome. Lets not talk about Crouch leaving in the summer by then the club may have been sold and we may be in the market for the sort of players to really move the club forward. But despite all the arguments for him i'm sorry but talented footballer that he is i see only trouble coming if we sign Barton whether on loan or a permanent contract.
