Injured Diop out for 3 months

With midfielders thin on the ground as it is the confirmed news by physio Gary Sadler that Papa Bouba Diop will be out for 3-months is not something that we wanted, or needed to hear - but unfortunately that is the truth...

I think it is fair to say that the big Senegalese man mountain - or at least should be for a fella of his size, but does seem a bit soft - is not exactly a fan favourite, but when deployed in a central midfield role he always looks better, and put in a good shift against Arsenal in the game he got injured. To be fair he puts in the graft, so effort cannot be faulted really can it, it is just the quality just lets him down! But at least he does want to play for the club, I think that is evident.

Diop went over nastily on his knee and has damaged various areas of it against Arsenal over Christmas and that will keep him out for some time, for all intent and purpose most of the season that is left.

Newcastle had been 'linked' with £5m bid for him - surely not true! Either way that puts paid to that as well...

Jamie Ashdown will also be out for a month or more with Jerome Thomas facing a further 6 weeks out - I do not think we will see the fella play for the club again to be honest.

Richard Hughes is getting there and John Utaka - 'linked' with a £5.5m return to Rennes, Younes Kaboul and Glen Johnson are all well and truly back in training though and the latter two 'could' feature against Citeh on Saturday.

bad news as we could really do with him back, i know he is not are most talented player but is a valuble player to the team. i think having ashdown out for a month is quite bad as david james could do with a few games on the bench!

and from a central role, which is his role - all this 'out of the right' *****e wasnt helping him or us!
as for jamo being benched - i still maintain that his errors are coming because he has not had the confidence in the defence in front of him... and can you blame him! so he is trying to do it all himself.

Just when you really need him, you lose him. We'll be lucky if he's back at all this season. Time to buy quality in midfield. we won't stay up with Davis, Mvwenmba & Hughes. Nico is a luxury player that worked with the class of Diarra, Muntari & Mendes but we need more now. Buy, please, buy.

as much as i want kaboul to replace campbell at the heart of the defence, do you think he will be put in the defensive midfield role that he played in against chelsea on his debut?

and bad news about diop, we need players soon. looked like he was asking to come off due to a kncok before he did the actual damage, or at least thats what the link i was watching was getting at

Do get the feeling that someone up there doesn't like us? We need a big b****r to control midfield. Did you notice when Sol and Sylv made surging runs through from defence to the Bristol City box, the defence didn't dare challenge them? Well, we need more Wardrobe type big lads to barge through. As well as being gifted like Johann Cruyff with their feet. Must be LOADS of them knocking around.

on the right, he's crap. through the middle, hes one of our best (not hard at the moment!) and would (at the moment) be starting every game. he played VERY well aginst arsenal... and I think we will miss him.
