'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A convenient coincidence...

The likelihood of an immanent Jermain Defoe departure have increased with the news that he has missed training today due to 'illness'...

Maybe this genuinely is an 'unfortunate coincidence' but the chances of this are pretty slim, and it stinks of a 'cover up' story, albeit it a pretty poor one.

Sky sports news, I would suspect a channel that I will have on almost 24-7 for the next 4 weeks or so, reports that the striker phoned in ill today, also missing the pre-FA cup meeting, meaning he is almost 100% certain to play no part of the cup tie - which also surely means he is on the move, and probably today. 'If' he is doing so to avoid being cup-tied, having suffered this last season, then the fella is a disgrace! If he is going lets get rid of him, dragging things out with 'excuses' of illness etc. will not benefit anyone.

I leave for Pompey early this evening, 'if' a move has not taken place before I get on the train, I would not be at all surprised to hear that it has taken place during my journey... Either way, come on Pompey - and JD - be honest with us, none of this cloak and dagger rubbish again!

Better news though was the confirmed presence of both Glen Johnson and Peter Crouch.

So, with that in mind I would think that both are available to face Bristol City tomorrow and providing Johnson comes through training ok I would hope he will return, and ideally with Marc Wilson playing in front of him on the right of midfield - come on Tony, please make this happen, for me this has the makings of an awesome partnership!

Speaking of Johnson in The Mirror today is says that we are to offer him a new contract to ward off interest from others - do it, and do it now!

Also back in training was Martin Cranie, who has returned to the club after his loan spell with Charlton. Is he back for the long-term, or just back before an inevitable departure, be that again on loan or for good this time? He seemed a fantastic talent, but has never appeared the same since his leg break while on loan with QPR last season.

Defoe: possibly the worst liar in the world?

Be great to see Johnson back if fit. Maybe Arry has kidnapped Defoe and rang in sick for him like the old school days. We know harry likes to kidnap his transfer targets!

Defoe, if you believe some of the stories in the tabloids, is more likely to be out chasing blondes from Essex in the London night clubs!

If he goes to Spurs make sure it's as late in the month as posssible & certainly after the 18th of Januray when we play them. That would be adding insult to injury to have him playing against us & no doubt bagging a goal or two!!!

Crouch has stated he wants to stay, Johnson may have been offered a new contract. now We need to give contracts to some of the players who are out of contract in the summer, then we may have them concentrating on their football rather than worrying about the future.

I suspect Defoe wanting out is more to do with Pompeys bright lights not matching the bright lights of london rather than any football reasons. Unless there's more to his relationship with HR than we know, he's already proved he'll sleep with anything.

I could see him moving to Villa but he can't go back to Spurs - FA rulez. I think every club in the league is hoping Man City fax for one of their players.

Dont take much notice of the rules, they can be changed to suit, as the FA have proved in the past.

Let him go. Sell him to Manchester City and give us Benjani as part of the deal.

FA have said they have no objections rules are only there to be enforced against Pompey. as with Benjani move being ratified outside of transfer window, not letting Defoe play against Spuds after his deal was finalised. So we won't get any help from the FA rules are there to be broken if it will benefit one of their percieved "Big Clubs"

storrie says that he wants to do transfer buisness early. isn't that what he said last window... the one where we signed belhadj and traore on the last day/night, and let cranie and primus go on loan with 20minutes to go?

It's pretty obvious JD will be going but i hope that the Club hold out for a decent offer. he's got enough contract left that we can stick him in the reserves and make him train with the youth team if he starts to rock the boat.

Like Steve C said, the FA have confirmed he can go, they only ever bend the rules against us. He's got the "illness" they all get before they get transferred - he won't be cup-tied, and he'll play and score against us on the 17th. I think he's a negative influence on the team now, so he can *** off. At least we'll make some money on him, and stop having to pay his wages. How long before the 'My Pompey Nightmare' stories hit the press? Mind you I thought this would happen when Harry left. Harry lured JD from his beloved Spurs, with the promise he would play for a change, and then a few months later HR ***'d off to Spurs, JD must have been spitting feathers that he moved at all. Not that I'm trying to excuse his unprofessional sulky behaviour.

You can't excuse his behaviour at all, he came here to get first team football, he got that, he got back in the England team because he was playing and scoring for us so i really can't see why he's keen to get away. I'm guessing there's not enough high class clubs and top totty around here for him.

I'm glad the club are finally trying to put to bed all the media rumours about our finances. signing belhadj permanently shows that we still have money to spend and storrie said all the right things in that interview. even if everything he said turns out to be a load of bull at least he's talking now...so often the club allow all this speculation to go unchallenged. Roll on Feb 2nd!

To be fair to the FA, we don't know for a fact that PS hasn't been urging them to agree to it anyway. It's clear the club want rid of Defoe, so they would probably like Spurs to be bidding even if it's just to drive up the price for another club.

If a beloved player of our got sold because we had a dickhead manager who would'nt play him and subsequently went to a smaller club with an acknowledgeddecent manager, we would wish him well., But when we sacked the that DH manager and poached the other manager from the smaller club we would be exstatic about the beloved player wanting to come back. Sell Defoe for as much as we can get. I am really disappointed with him having been so excited when he came. As for Harry superstar who is according to the press just begun his defense of the FA cup.. i hope you do what you did at the scum and send them down having exhausted the funds in january..you mark my words i think he might.
