The likelihood of an immanent Jermain Defoe departure have increased with the news that he has missed training today due to 'illness'...
Maybe this genuinely is an 'unfortunate coincidence' but the chances of this are pretty slim, and it stinks of a 'cover up' story, albeit it a pretty poor one.
Sky sports news, I would suspect a channel that I will have on almost 24-7 for the next 4 weeks or so, reports that the striker phoned in ill today, also missing the pre-FA cup meeting, meaning he is almost 100% certain to play no part of the cup tie - which also surely means he is on the move, and probably today. 'If' he is doing so to avoid being cup-tied, having suffered this last season, then the fella is a disgrace! If he is going lets get rid of him, dragging things out with 'excuses' of illness etc. will not benefit anyone.
I leave for Pompey early this evening, 'if' a move has not taken place before I get on the train, I would not be at all surprised to hear that it has taken place during my journey... Either way, come on Pompey - and JD - be honest with us, none of this cloak and dagger rubbish again!
Better news though was the confirmed presence of both Glen Johnson and Peter Crouch.
So, with that in mind I would think that both are available to face Bristol City tomorrow and providing Johnson comes through training ok I would hope he will return, and ideally with Marc Wilson playing in front of him on the right of midfield - come on Tony, please make this happen, for me this has the makings of an awesome partnership!
Speaking of Johnson in The Mirror today is says that we are to offer him a new contract to ward off interest from others - do it, and do it now!
Also back in training was Martin Cranie, who has returned to the club after his loan spell with Charlton. Is he back for the long-term, or just back before an inevitable departure, be that again on loan or for good this time? He seemed a fantastic talent, but has never appeared the same since his leg break while on loan with QPR last season.
