O'Neil bid rejected/Spurs given green light

O'Neil bid rejected/Spurs given green light

Boro reject opening O'Neil bid?
Gary O'Neil is being constantly 'linked' with a return to Pompey, with many reports claiming the deal was all but done - however nothing has been concluded yet, in fact The Sun today says that our opening bid has been rejected?

We sold him for a 'reported' £5m around 16-months ago, even though he did not want to leave at the time and the implication is that he is desperate to return, but the alleged £2.5m offered has rejected - and if that figure is true then rightly so...

It is 'said' that Boro still owe us some outstanding fee for O'Neil so we would wipe that out, but the chances of getting him back for much less than we sold him for would be unlikely, although something around £4m should do the trick.

He, as with anyone domestically that will play in the FA cup this weekend, will of course be cup-tied if a deal is not tied up today - should he sit out Boro's game against Barrow then this would seem a clear indicator that he is 'coming home', then again of course we cannot just assume that we will beat Bristol City anyway!

Hermann off to Rangers?
Hermann Hreidarsson made it clear yesterday that he is going to be leaving this month, and it is thought he will be granted a free transfer when he finds himself a new club - and reports today say that Rangers are keen on re-uniting him with a former teammate Pedro Mendes. Ipswich and Reading are also interested in the veteran.

I would not imagine that Hreidarsson is on 'massive wages', so quite why we would grant him a free transfer at this stage of the season seems slightly strange - a 'nominal fee' makes more sense? Would we not be better served keeping him until the summer and then releasing him as opposed to giving him away now?

He might want to leave but he is not one of those, or at least does not come across as one of those, that will 'sulk' and not 'give his all' when called upon... The kind of player our squad seems to be crying out for.

Richard Duffy on the other hand, yep he can go now and he is said to be close to completing a free to Coventry, although The Mirror says that it is in fact Millwall that have snapped him up? Either way fingers crossed!

Premier league gives Defoe move the thumbs up
Can he or can he not return to Spurs?

This was the question that so many wanted answering regarding Jermain Defoe, but it seems that the premier league are happy for him to return to Spurs despite rules saying he cannot. Although in all fairness we are only talking a matter of days. Although that said it again demonstrates the willingness to 'bend' rules as and when it suits the premier league/FA!

Either way, rather than have a moaning, sulking, over paid and under working player labouring around here until the summer - not to mention causing unrest - we may as well let him 'go home'.

Spurs want Defoe back, he wants to leave lets get the deal done - but 'should' we do this before we face Spurs in a couple of weeks? That becomes the next question...

I was under the impression that the £5m we 'sold' Harry Redknapp for paid off the outstanding fee on Defoe but reports in today's papers 'claim' we still owe varying amounts, £3m-£5m depending on where you read it along with £3m for Younes Kaboul - so Spurs will write this debt off, putting money as well meaning he would cost them the sum of £12m.

I still feel we should hold out for more, we only got him 'cheap' last January as his contract was running down, in fact it ended that summer - he is on a long term deal here so, even though financially we are not in a position to 'let him rot', we do to a degree hold the cards, even more so if we 'really' do not need to sell anyone else, so £15m should be what we hold out for minimum.

To be honest I cannot see him opting for Villa or Citeh, although maybe 'megabucks' from Citeh could tempt him? Spurs, as said, is his so called 'home' so chances are he will return - at least there he knows that he is one of Redknapp's golden boys so will play week in week out regardless...

AS i've said elsewhere meet our fee demands or he plays 1 minute from the bench tomorrow so he's cup tied. i seem to remember 2 mins from the bench was all that stopped him playing in the cup for us last season. It would have a certain poetic justice.

Dear God....selling Defoe and buying O'Neil......Taylor and Benji not been limked yet??

Sure they will Tantona!

Only a matter of time before we are linked with them isn't it, i reckon O'Neill would love to come home, and the chance to play in the centre of midfield where he wanted to play before. Benjy seems to get so many injuries now, i reckon that Hughes will make him available, how about Crouch and Benjani up front. I hope Hermann gets his move, he has served us well, and if he goes to Scotland he is nearly home!!

Boro owe us, we owe Spurs (even though we were told we didn't) he Premier League breaks its own rules.. again... Why can't football be like the real world you want something you pay or it ... Imagine if we dealt like football....... I'll have a pint of Stella for £3 please I'll pay £1 now, a further £1.50 when I've finished it and the reamining 50p in ten installments over the next ten months... unless of course I pass the pint to a friend then I'll be liable to a sell on fee and have to pay an extra 25p !

Rug, I'd like to see Gary O back as I do feel he is still a good player so lets hope a deal can be done there. Good Luck to Hermann and Duffy where ever they end up. As for JD, if we can get £15M for him then I would take it. No use in keeping someone who does not want to be there. Take the cash and put in a bid for Doyle at Reading who I think would be a great addition.

Chix, that's quality. Might try it tonight to see what response I get.

According to the Scottish Sun, Pompey have bid £9m for Scott Brown of Celtic, we have alledgedly watched him 3 times and his performance against Rangers has convinced us that he is the man
