Belhadj signs

Belhadj signs

Finally some good news, Nadir Belhadj has signed a permanent contract with Pompey.

The Pompey Site has confirmed that he will officially become a full time Pompey player on Thursday and he has signed a 4 and a half year contract for a fee of €4.5m, which is around £4.4m - clearly, as promised, so credit where it is due, some of the Lassie money has been used here.

Tony Adams, who played a major role in his arriving on loan in the first place, is thrilled that we have turned his deal into a permanent one: 'I'm delighted to have secured Nadir as a permanent signing.

'Nadir is an excellent acquisition for the club and even Arsene Wenger commented on his ability to spring from defence to attack so quickly. He has great pace and energy and is a terrific crosser of the ball, too.

'At the moment he's playing left back and developing a good relationship with Niko Kranjcar, but he can also play left midfield.

'His enthusiasm is first class and he's already a big favourite with the Fratton Park fans - they recognise he gives everything.'

This is fantastic news, I am delighted that we have tied him down to a long term contract - hopefully this is a statement of intent and not something to 'appease the natives' before a full scale clearout goes ahead!

My own thinking is the Belhadj and Niko Kranjcar partnership is not working anywhere near as well as the one that the Algerian had with Armand Traore, so I would go back to that one - but where does that leave the Croatian? For me we have struggled more since he returned...

fantastic news, and just as i leave a comment on another artcle saying i bet the belhadj deal isnt done. with our central problems, i can see niko playing central in front of davis for now, with the whippets down the left.

I have man flu, and ache from top to bottom, but at least that has put a smile on my face. Now we have 4 1/2yrs to teach him how to defend!!!

Great signing but like a young Glenn Johnson he needs to work on the defensive side of his game. Johnson improved defensively i see no reason why Belhadj won't too. Now lets play Traore and Belhadj down the left. Move Kranjcar into the middle so he can create for the forwards.

Agree with Steve C, I don't like Niko on the flanks. He can't defend & leaves the full back over exposed. Great to sign the bel boy, the first of many???

Good to see the boy sign, just hope it's not all of the initial Lassie payment! I'd like to see Hunt from Reading in a Pompey Shirt!

phew... I was getting concerned! In the warm up before the arsenal game, all the players were passing around in twos/threes, belhadj was trying to join in in various places, and failing! then after half time, when all the players were wishing eachother luck, he wasn just standing out on the wing on his own (allthough eventually David james DID go over to him...) anyway... phew!
