Wilson staying/Linvoy's future & Elliott signing?

Wilson not going on loan now...
When Marc Wilson came in to the side to star against Heerenveen last week, before the game many people were thinking 'who', afterwards they were thinking 'wow!'

As said before I have been 'name dropping' him for a while, and he lived up to expectations - so much so that Tony Adams revealed he was very close to the 1st team, but in order to get sharper and even closer he wanted him to go out on loan in the New Year.

However a week on and the Pompey manager has changed his mind - the Irish youngster has moved so much closer in this week that he will not now be loaned out and there is a good chance that he will be part of the 1st team as the season goes on!

Get him in I say, he is good enough no matter how young he is - and 21 is not exactly young is it. He might be inexperienced but we all have to start somewhere. The right side of midfield is a problem area, so get him in there. The fella can defend, he can attack and most importantly he can put in a fantastic ball on the left or right foot, he offered the kind of service that the strikers have been crying out for...

==========

Primus still in Adams' plans
Our longest serving player Linvoy Primus is now back at the club following a loan spell with Charlton - he took part in his first training session since his return yesterday.

Many expected his future to be elsewhere but Adams maintains that he is still part of his plans and can still feature as he needs 'Portsmouth people who want to play for Portsmouth' - that appears to be our biggest problem at the moment, too many do not appear to actually 'want to play for Pompey!'

Apparently he is not fit enough to feature over Christmas, but as far as I am concerned if he is not fit now - as that was the point of his loan - he never will be. If he genuinely does have a future and will play for the club again then lets get him into the squad and the side sooner rather than later, could he do any worse than those currently in possession of the shirt...

==========

Elliott closing in on a £2m move?
Marvin Elliott should not be a name that is new to Pompey fans as the Bristol City midfielder has been 'linked' to us several times over the past few years.

Well according to the Mirror today the 24-year-old is 'close' to agreeing a £2m deal.

I am not convinced by this at all to be honest. Plenty of names will be 'linked' as 'Lassana Diarra's replacement', so I suspect that he is just another 'pot shot' as one of them - the fact that we play City in the FA cup probably makes this another reason for an 'easy link'...

'If' we were paying £2m for him then 'if' we had it I would prefer we put a little extra to that and picked up someone more proven to be honest - and feel we could get someone like that is the shape of Gary O'Neil, Jimmy Bullard or even Edu.

Thoughts on all the above please guys as always...

Linvoy is not fit enough or quick enough to play at the moment, it would be a major mistake to play him, let him go out on loan again. Elliott is not Premiership standard, there are many midfield players like him in the lower leagues and they are not worth a punt, look at Kieth Andrew who went to Blackburn, decent players, but not able to step up. Please Tony do not waste this money!!

It would be great to see Marc Wilson feature in a league match

Interestingly Johnson has broken down in training again, my prediction is a deal has been done with a club for him and he will be fit and well to play again come Jan 1st. Wilson may well be needed!
bluedr
I must be honest, that thought went through my mind, Glen will probabbly make his Spurs/Liverpool debut early in the New Year!! How bad would that be, yet again Pompey fans being lied to by the Chief Exec and the rest of the Board.
Owenspompey
it does make you think that with johnson doesnt it - but hopefully that isnt the case, as we would be crazy to sell him now as he is the 'only' real reliable defensive player we have at the moment and our only apparent attacking outlet down the right!
pompeyrug
stop kidding yourselves, Just as i said that Lass was being kept in cotton wool because a deal had been done so has Johnson. Injured ..don't be so naive. Defoe will pop off as soon as spmeone decent offers him a job. Krunchie will go too-probably when we are relegated.
plymouth graham
Rug, I think Johnson will go for sure I just hope we can get about 10M for him. My Mystic Meg predictions for Jan 09 are Distin and James will also go and Tony will be out of a job by Mid Jan probably after we are defeated by Bristol City in the cup. Oooh how I hope I am wrong!
bluedr
diarra going in january was never a 'secret' or 'surprise' tho was it, and i do genuinely believe that the fella was injured - ok maybe not as badly as made out, but injured nevertheless... 'if' he was being wrapped in cotton wool before being sold 'why' would we have risked the deal right at the last? yep, as said i think he was injured, but was always going regardless.
chances are johnson could go, but again - as much as thoughts otherwise have crossed my mind - i do not think that tony adams would stand for this 'you cannot play him' rubbish, so again think he genuinely is injured.
pompeyrug
as everyone else has said... Marc Wilson being closer to the first team doesnt mean he has got much better in the , it simply means johnson doesn't look like he is going to be staying at the club. It's a shame, particually as he is/has been one of our best, most consistent players recently... not good! Still, hopefully linvoy will resurect our team spirit!
pompeycarpet
above anything else i pray we get through at least one round in the cup, going out in round 3 as holders would be unbearable...
pompeyrug
wilson 'does' want to play for the club - in my books that is a pretty good starting point, and the fella doesnt look a bad prospect either! it is a shame that 'likely' departures might have forced this issue, but there you go...
pompeyrug
I was surprised Wilson didn't start at Bolton & after that pathetic performance he should play against West Ham especially if Jonno is injured!!!
storagematt
I'm with Graham and Bluedr all the way, and as for Linvoy...Do me a favour! We're shipping goals at a rate already we don't need to add to it!
pentonpompey
Adams has changed his mind about a loan for Wilson, & with Johnsons (ankle)? does add to the speculation, but I for one hope were wrong.
pompeyyong
Expect to see Nigel Winterburn here with his tail between his legs (I thought it was Adams who was the Donkey??) He's been relieved of his duties at Blackburn. Blimey he lasted less time than it takes my old man to boil the sprouts for Christmas!!
pentonpompey
If things carry on the back four will be Wilson, Adams, Metgod and Winterburn!! Mind you they would be as good as the performance of the back four against Newcastle and Bolton.
