Villain to become the hero...

Villain to become the hero...

Who will ever forget that afternoon at White Hart Lane when Didier Zokora criminally dived - and this was a dive of all dives, which even had plenty of Spurs fans up in arms - to earn his side a penalty against Pedro Mendes in what I recall was a 2-1 defeat.

Well, according to 'reports' in the News of the World today anyway, this villain could soon become a hero for Pompey fans with it 'claimed' that Tony Adams sees the Ivory Coast star as a perfect replacement for the departing Lassana Diarra - who I must admit stunned me by not only being named in the squad to face Bolton yesterday, but playing as well! In actual fact it left me unsure as to how close his impending move to Madrid actually is - as why would we 'risk' him if the deal was as close as it has been claimed? Although the Frenchman himself has already raised a few questions about this move!?

I cannot say that I am that big a fan of Zokora's to be honest - and this is not because of 'that dive', that said I do not see him that often do I so it is easy for me to say that. Either way I do not see him as a £10m player at all...

It is funny how the very same paper that has been slagging us off mercilessly in recent months - painstakingly pointing out 'financial problems' now seems to believe that we have £10m to burn. It just shows what the papers are like really doesn't it!

With Jimmy Bullard now being told that he is 'free to leave' if he does not agree a new deal with Fulham by the end of January, despite the fact that he is 30, I would much rather we 'broke the bank' - within reason - to bring him to Fratton, as the fella is, for me, a much more rounded footballer than the Ivorian... Although apparently, and I did not hear it so I cannot really say, it was let slip yesterday that a deal 'has been done' to bring Gary O'Neil back from Boro - something that I am happy with as he offers willingness, effort, dedication, commitment you name it, not to mention quality too, all traits that I want to see in someone pulling on the Pompey blue...

Talking of villains, well 'Villans' actually, the People is also today claiming that Jermain Defoe 'will be sold', even if Diarra's Madrid move does go through as a further 'book balancing' measure. He will 'apparently' go to highflying Villa for £10m.

All I will add to finish with is, 'lets just wait and see what happens', as no doubt there will be plenty more paper inches filled with 'gossip' relating to Pompey over the coming 4 weeks, probably mostly players apparently going out as opposed to in of course...

'Wait and see' is my line Rug but as the window approached speculation will build and build. Agree on Bullard but Zokora? They are different types of players why not both? As for Zokora's dive we would have to bury the hatchet - but never forget that moment.

zokora isnt worth £10m!
21/12/2008 09:46:00
how about vieira and bullard, or vieira and - as seems the case? - o'neil... both for, on either case i would suspect, for £10m as opposed to an 'apparent' £10m for one?
21/12/2008 09:47:00
Tony won't be given £10m to spend on one player - Will he ?. Would love to see Bullard in Pompey blue but think there are bigger clubs out there who could table a more attractive bid... Vierra.. well maybe .. O'Neil .. More likely. As for Defoe he seems to be in a sulk at the mo so if his heart isn't in it I'd rather he went.. £10 to Villa I've read

Defoe is very****ed off but he's worth more than £10m. He wasn't an England regular at Spurs. Zokora, you're having a laugh, if he is that good Hr wouldn't let him go. Bullard or O'Neil or both, the midfield needs some creativity. We will be linked with many & many will be linked to go but whatever happens we just may have a relegation battle on our hands!
21/12/2008 10:08:00
zokora is not worth £10m at all! and hes old. why spend that much on an old, rubbish player!
21/12/2008 11:18:00
Zokora for Utaka. You bought him RedKnapp, you have him.
21/12/2008 12:23:00
Zo is a no for me, Defoe does seem off form at the moment, but anyone watching MOTD last night will have seen great delight on his fave when Crouch scored, good omen for me, O'Neill would be welcomed back as he is a "Mr. Pompey"
21/12/2008 12:28:00
still think Engelaar would be the best signing... and we're now even being linked to him! if the 6million being mentioned is realistic, I would say snap him up!
21/12/2008 12:35:00
Doesn't everyone see the irony in the very fact that the paper that constantly portrays Pompey as skint, and how HR will raid the club, now links us with a big money move for one of their lot as they need transfer funds!!
