Let the bidding war begin!

Let the bidding war begin!

If he is going lets get top dollar!
To be honest with you I had been resigned to losing Lassana Diarra in next months transfer window for some time - the fact that we kept him beyond the summer was a surprise to me in many ways. 'If' we can somehow manage to hold onto him next month then he will almost certainly be off in the summer.

Either way reports of an interest from the mighty Madrid are now gathering pace and I suspect that if true then the Spanish giants would be the Frenchman's fancy, even ahead of Manyoo, almost certainly Spurs and Citeh, unless money motivates him? - Although, how true these reports are is unclear as this 'link' to Madrid is an easy one to make seen as former Spurs manager Juande Ramos has now taken over, and he was always keen when in England.

So, as I have said over and over, as much as I would love us to keep the little fella I think our paths will part shortly - but it is essential that we get a 'bidding war' going and make whoever buys him pay a top, top price! At the end of the day we have refused his sale before, and as he is under contract and our financial position is not a critical one we do hold the power, so why let him go on the cheap!

However a 'laughable' £9m is being 'reported', with a deal with Madrid said to be close to completion - if we let him go for a measly £9m, and he is worth double that, then the only reason can be a 'release clause' of that fee was included in his contract. That would be funny though seen as we 'apparently' turned down a so called £15m offer in the summer - ah well, time will tell wont it.

Tony Adams seems confident of keeping his 'star names', and word that I have - although please do not hold me to this as I cannot offer a 100% assurance! - is that he has this belief because 'a deal has been done in principle to sell the club, and the prospective new owners are trying to do early repayment deals with current creditors.' So this is what leaves him in this positive frame of mind, but either way Diarra looks as though he is off...

£15,000 fine leaves Pompey 'astounded'
The club have released a statement on the Pompey Site, in response to the fine imposed yesterday, where it is revealed the club are amazed at the fine handed out: 'Portsmouth FC is astounded that the FA have fined the club in respect of Benjani Mwaruwari's transfers to and from the club.

'We had no idea that the agent Willie McKay received a fee when the player joined us from Auxerre in January 2006 and both the agent and club confirmed this to the FA - evidence they have clearly ignored.'

I still think that Willy McKay has got off lightly compared to the club, but at the end of the day we continued to play with fire so it was inevitable that we would eventually get burnt!

dolphin head diarra aint everything just get money for him

My main fear is not whether Diarra will go, its that we'll only get 9M for him. Madrid and United's involvement makes me wonder whether this 'top 4' release clause will be triggered if he goes to either of them. Many fans of other clubs don't realise the talent this guy has, if he goes for anything less than 18M it will be a joke.
16/12/2008 11:44:00
9mil!!?? surely thats a load of cod!
16/12/2008 11:52:00
If we sell him for less than 16 Million i'm gonna go mental.
16/12/2008 12:02:00
he certainly is worth more than £9M - and Storrie is no mug - makes you wonder if the whole Madrid talk is just paper talk.
16/12/2008 12:37:00
Let the bidding start, compared to Hargreaves, Carrick and Ballack, he is as good, if not better. Let them pay up to 18 million for a quality player, who although we will miss him, has always been going to go when Madrid etc, come knocking. Good luck to the lad, he was the driving force of the cup win along with Muntari.
16/12/2008 13:14:00
Come, come, get a grip people, he never would go for £9m. Also, it doesn't have to be guaranteed that he is going to be leaving in January. If AG hasn't yet arranged a buyer for the club, then with Diarra as an asset on the books worth £XXm, then he can sell the club for a higher amount, so he may not want to Diarra to go as he can recoup this money when he sells the club anyway and with Diarra staying, Pompey should finish higher in the table, again ensuring a higher price for the club. If AG has already agreed a sale, then who is to say if the buyers wouldn't want to keep Diarra? Oh and LOOOL at 'Dolphin Head'!!!
16/12/2008 13:54:00
Liquor you forget one thing mate, this is Pompey the soap opera, we never do the sensible/logical thing!!
16/12/2008 14:51:00
It's all just paper talk again. Roll on January when we actually get to find out what is going to happen!
16/12/2008 14:52:00
Come on then lads, who do we think WILL go? We have to be honest and admit that at least a couple will go, i just hope that we can secure a couple of decent players either permanant or on loan. Please though nothing to Spuds, if we have to, demand a huge fee for whoever Judas comes sniffing around!

An unexpected visitor

Pompey's Burgess was clearly at a loose end when the game at Crawley was postponed. That much was initially obviously with the level of desire to be involved in footie later revealed.

Cook - no need for a prolific marksman

Cook has said Pompey's lack of a 25 goal striker - I still think we have one - isn't going to impact on our promotion chances. I can see both sides of Cookie's opinion here to be fair.
