Pompey fined over Benjani transfers

Pompey have been fined £15,000 by the FA after being found guilty of breaching rules, which are set out, regarding the transfer of Benjani to, and them from the club.

FA rules state that an agent cannot act on behalf of a player in two consecutive transfers involving the same player - as Willy Mackay acted on behalf of him and Auxerre to bring him to Pompey in 2006 and then to Citeh in January both parties breached rules.

This is what commission chairman Paul Gilroy QC said after the hearing: 'the Football Agents Regulations were introduced as an important method of addressing unacceptable practices in professional football, particularly in the transfer market.

'Both parties were fully aware of the new regulations at the time the offences were committed.

'The commission considered that the justice of the case was met by imposing penalties which to a large degree will act as an incentive to both parties to avoid any future transgressions.'

So, Pompey get the fine - and will get another of the same amount if they are found guilty again - and Mackay gets a suspended ban, which if found guilty again means he will be unable to be involved in any deals involving English clubs for the duration of a transfer window - he seems to get off lightly if you ask me...

Was that ALL it was about? Or is there still more to come out yet? You don't normally get arrested for breaching FA rules!!

Didn't someone bring this up in Feb when we sold Benji saying that we were going to get into trouble over it being Willie at both ends of buying and selling?

Move on, pay it, move on. We have enough to worry about on the pitch.

Northampton (h) - Securing home advantage?

Some could view this as a 'dead rubber!' It isn't as Champions Northampton will want to end on a high and Pompey will want 'an advantage' against Plymouth in the play-offs. Right?

Pompey MotM at Hartlepool

Pompey went into the penultimate game with a slim chance of a top 3 finish. A 2-0 win at Hartlepool saw the Blues do what we needed but wins for others ended those chances.

An emergency loan arrival of a goalie has been ruled out by the Football League but this doesn't mean a free agent cannot be signed by Pompey should a suitable option be found?
