Favourite son to return to Fratton?

Favourite son to return to Fratton?

O'Neil to make Pompey return?
It has been reported before, but with Harry Redknapp at the helm this was never likely to happen, but Gary O'Neil is again being 'linked' with a return to Pompey from Boro, with rumours of him failing to settle with the club ongoing...

Most of us were gutted to see him leave when he left some 18-months or so ago, although admitting that he might not have had the quality that others did at the time, so I would not think that many would be against a possible return?

A fee of £4m is being mentioned, which I guess is roughly what we sold him for - although the original deal of £5m or so seems as though we eventually 'settled' for less, like we often do when selling!

The work rate, determination and fight of O'Neil I feel would be welcomed back with open arms, and to be fair he does have quality about him as well! His one failing, which I think has always held him back from making that 'next level' has been his lack of goals - but even he would offer us more of these than the current midfield is and would grab the game by the scruff of the neck and never give in, and we do not have enough of this type of player at the moment.

Personally I would not think twice about welcoming him back, and would love these 'reports' to be true, the 'main problem' is these reports are on tribalfootball.com and this is hardly the bastion of truth and accuracy...

Adams warns 'I won't let you get away with more mistakes' - again!
I feel a sense of déjà vu as Tony Adams is being quoted in The News today as telling his players that he will not tolerate anymore sloppy mistakes or shoddy performances - I swear he has said this before?

Mistakes cost us dearly against Newcastle, as they have other teams this season, somehow we need to cut these out - if that means dropping some 'star names' then so be it!

Not sure about O'Neill to come back - he was a firm favourite, but not sure he's a replacement for the likes of Muntari, Pedro and Diarra. Tony's saying the right things about mistakes, lets hope he can do something about it.

Agree with tracyc there. GON is all paper talk and Tony has to stop the talking and get some actions from his men.

Would be great to get Gary O back if he is available, would also like to see us go for Jimmy Bullard and Stephen Warnock. Come on Tony spend the Diarra Millions!

Actions speak louder than words & 2 wins out of 11 ain't good. Being 8th counts for SFA when you look at the tough games coming up. As for GON, a shame he went & yes he would be welcome but...

I tell you what, I am a huge fan of Jimmy Bullard. Living near Fulham I've seen a bit of him and he certainly caused us probs in midfield when they played at FP in October. Plus, he reminds me of something which comes straight out of the Seventies! A touch of the Stan Bowles, Rodney Marsh and the man never stops trying. I'd love to see JB in the blue shirt.

Gary would alwats be welcome back, and would help to ease the departure of Lassina, we should also look at someone like Denilson of Arsenal to come on loan, as he wont play all the time. Liverpool might also have some fringe players like Pennant available, who has to be better than Utaka!!

Our midfiled looked very weak against Newcastle, so it is very much an area that Tony has to look at. I would welcome back Gary'O with open arms, just for his work rate. We do need someone who can distribute that ball though in the middle as hoofing it up to crouch or playing down the wings all the time is not working.

Gary would not be a step back, he is a quality central midfielder, who Redknob played out of position, like Diop and Taylor.

O'neal is good but not in the class of Diarra, Muntari or Mendes he is more of the same we already have in CM the likes of Davis, Hughes, Mvuemba & Diop
