Christophe set for Southend switch

Christophe off to pastures new-ish...
We never saw him pull on the blue of Pompey, well not in a competitive game anyway, but Jean-Francois Christophe has done this plenty of times with the blue of Southend and is now on his way from the club with a permanent move to Southend set to be complete in January.

The Frenchman had been a hit during a 3-month loan with Southend, scoring some late goals for the club, including an equaliser as a shook FA cup exit against Telford looked on back along, and a contract will be signed until 2011 when the transfer window open in January.

Christophe signed after a successful pre-season trial a couple of summers back, but the fact that he has never made it anywhere near the 1st team is not exactly a surprise - we do have a habit of signing trialists with very few ever coming through, with him the latest in quite a long line - but we 'should' at least get a transfer fee for him, no matter how nominal it is for one of our players that I believe is out of contract in the summer?

I wish him the best of luck to him for the future anyway - maybe he can one day prove we were wrong to let him get away? Although, without being unfair I would not hold my breath...

==========

Diarra's off - The Mirror says, so this must be true!
Today's Mirror runs a headline 'Diarra to complete £18m Manchester City transfer in January' - I do not quite know why, but for some bizarre reason I expected some 'proof' or so-called 'evidence' to back up these claims. Ok, maybe not, the 'rehashed' and 'reused' previously made claims were probably what I had expected...

This is the 'factually enlightening' piece that was run: 'Lassana Diarra is set to give Portsmouth fans a Christmas farewell by making an early return from injury before completing an £18million January move to Manchester City.

'Diarra has pencilled in Pompey's trip to Bolton a week tomorrow after undergoing treatment on an ankle injury in France.'

Unbelievable - not one word of anything 'new', good to see the Mirror journalists earning their crust!

Maybe he will go, and if he does I will not be overly surprised, but with all the new found wealth that Citeh have it is not exactly hard to predict a move to them for anyone is it - you can rest assured that 'if' it does happen then credit will be taken for a story as 'exclusively revealed'...

Good luck to Christophe in pastures new (well old) but you know what I mean.
It has got me thinking though, with Harry now gone, does this mean the end of 'Trialists' arriving every summer.
The Mirror - Pah what a load of old re-hashed stories!

As much as I would like to see Diarra stay, the £18m would come in handy and hopefully allow Tony to bring in a couple. If you add Utaka and a couple of others to possible Jan sales then we could see a different Pompey side for the 2nd half of the season.

Yep if Lassie's going we need to milk it for all it's worth. Bring on the big bucks!

It's laughable that Citeh think they're awesome just because they have a ton of money - they bought Robinho, fair enough as he's quality, but where are they now?! If Lassana wants to go then he wants to go, but I hardly think Citeh are going to be the 'big club' he's always dreamed of!
PFCGino
But if Citeh are paying silly money then let's get laughing.

i would love to keep diarra but lets be honest he will go in the not too distant future - £15m + would be enough to tempt him away... whilst i would rather it was someone like madrid or milan, if it is citeh, manyoo or even spurs, so long as we do not let him go on the cheap - something we often do when selling - then i will accept it.

I agree Rug - Diarra said from the off that Pompey is really just a pit-stop for him to play regular football and show what he can do. He's a world-class player and we all know that he'll be off eventually, so we better let him go for at least £18 million absolute minimum.
PFCGino
agree rug - he ILL go. however I would think that less than 20 million would actually be fairly insulting to the player. after all, he is young, talented, and will be the heart beat of the french national team for a long time to come. Owen Hargreeves was an injury plagued england missfit, who had one good tpournament, and suddenly went for 30 million (ish). Michael carrick went for god knows how much, and it's not even close to think who is better!
pompeycarpet
OK if he has to go bidders please start your bids "do I hear 20 million anyone" thats your starter,& you have not met the reserve yet. ha ha!

No surprise about Christophe going good luck to him. No surprise about even more Diarra stories YAWN.............

I've long had a sneaking suspicion that Diarra will head for the other side of Manchester. I guess if I'm right, I'll be offered (and subsequently turn down) a job at the Mirror sports desk.

Having seen him a couple of times pre-season for us i'm amazed he didn't get even a look in. He certainly appeared to have something about him. I was seriously impressed both times. Just goes to show what I know!...Nowt!!
pentonpompey
If Diarra goes rather to Utd than Citeh & for £20m + a sell on clause. Ideally he would grace the white of Real Madrid. Shame he has been injured, we have missed him & have very little chance of seeing him that often again.
