ACADEMY BEAT SOUTHAMPTON

Pompey Academy 3 Southampton Academy 1

Pompey Academy got back to winning ways in the league with victory over neighbours Southampton at the Wellington Sports Ground.

Ryan Woodford, Paris Cowan-Hall (pictured) and Nadir Ciftci grabbed the goals that spelt defeat for the Blues' south coast neighbours.

And but for an inspired performance from Saints keeper Andrej Pernecky, the result could have been far more emphatic.

Pompey only had one goal to show for their first-half dominance, WOODFORD meeting a low cross at the far post to open the scoring.

Half Time: Pompey 1 Southampton 0

Danny Bogard looked to have doubled the Blues' advantage just after the interval but his effort was ruled out for offside.

But COWAN-HALL did grab a second, finding the net with his first touch after coming on as a substitute.

CIFTCI then sealed victory, hammering the ball home from close range to complete a fine move that involved Cowan-Hall, Jordan Hughes and Gael Nlundulu.

The visitors did pull a goal back when Ryan Doble headed past Liam O'Brien after meeting Ryan Tafazolli's cross with 15 minutes remaining.

Pompey: O'Brien, Gregory, Woodford, Mantyla, Blackman, Nlundulu, Pack, Kilbey, Hughes (Castles 75), Ciftci (Navas Alors 75), Bogard (Cowan-Hall 61)
Subs not used: Smith, Price

Danny Bogard lives near me, and I've had a kickabout with him a few times. Very talented young striker (and because I'm a few years older I used to stick him in goal and he was great at that too) so its good to see him get a run out!
