We've all been on a European tour!

We've all been on a European tour!

Ok, maybe saying 'we've all been on a European tour' is bending the truth slightly, as clearly not all of us could have been on a European tour - but you know what I mean, Pompey have done it and in some way, shape or form we have followed it and been a part of it.

Luckily I managed to do all the home games - and with one more to go so technically the European tour is not over yet! - and made 2 out of 3 of the away games.

Guimaraes was fantastic, and I will never forget the atmosphere that Thursday afternoon in the town centre, awesome absolutely awesome is the way to describe it best. Braga had to be passed by to have done Wolfsburg, and I am proud that I managed to follow us in Europe, something that I never thought I would be able to do until recently...

The disappointment of the hundreds, well in fact probably thousands all told, of miles travelled for Wolfsburg and the lack of sleep that this brought was well worth it, even though we lost and the European adventure ended - but at the end of the day 'following' and 'watching Pompey in Europe' is another thing to put on the Pompey CV that I have gathered over the past decade or more of full on Pompey travelling support around the country and now the globe, and what a glittering Pompey CV this is eh guys!

I would have loved the European tour to have continued, and taken in a couple more different countries and possibly brought some more of Europe's finest to Fratton but it obviously was not meant to be...

To be honest though I had said that if it ended after Vitoria, which it looked like doing for a long while, I would have been happy to have seen us in Europe. Clearly I was just kidding myself as I would have been gutted for it to end that night in October! Thankfully it did not, and in all honesty, as much as I thought we would carry on into the New Year, I set out a 'group stage' as the minimum I would want and we got that so I cannot, and will not be too disappointed.

Maybe this German trip will be our last ever foray into Europe, maybe it will not, but one thing that I know for sure is I have loved every minute of it. I of course do have got a taste for it and want it to happen again, but if it never does I will be eternally grateful and appreciative of the fact that I have been on a European tour with Pompey...

I plan to do a full account of the Wolfsburg adventure in time - get the coffee ready to keep you awake! - but those of you that have seen Away Goals - Euro Chimes: Wolfsburg 'should' have noticed the 'Write to Rug' section on the second to last page... Well you are still invited to do that and I will share your thoughts!

Great article Rug! Guimaraes seems like some distant dream now but hopefully it will be a dream to be repeated! Glad the site's up and running again now - phew!

fun whilst it lasted - in all honesty, I think it would, and HAS affected our league form quite a lot - our squad isn't big enough, but then, it never will be big enogh. it's very hard to have a squad big enough for a good cup run, but let's hope we at least have a decent run in the FA cup... OUR FA cup!!!

Sorry to post an 'off topic' message but could anyone advise me how I can log-in to the forums? Since the server went wacko I can't sign in although I'm logged'in fine to view and post comments on articles. I've tried binning my cookies and all that. Help!

Not a bad first outing. AC Milan will always be the most memorable night of my life (sorry, that includes my honeymoon...) and the second most memorable was v Bradford City, 21st October 1979 so I needed something a bit more choice as a greatest moment. When Inzaghi scored it was like waking up from a brilliant dream - a smack in the teeth but don't forget what a brilliant dream it was.

One to go, time to look at the fringe players I would think, shame we can only use the 24 euro squad players, considering there is nothing in it for either club eufa could surely allow this & give players like Nugent a runout, worth a call?

whilst we are at it, we could put in a £1million bid for ronaldo... worth a call? ...sorry, I don;t see it happening yong...

And the Milan game with my wife and kids. I'm not disappointed we have not qualified from the group, just ecstatic with what we have witnessed.

Lets hope the crowd show t5he Pompey players full support for the Heerenveen game, and that everyone still turns up to support the blues.

As I think we all know by now Oxlade-Chamberlain is the son of former Pompey winger Mark Chamberlain and the brother of Arsenal's & England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Cook - Notts County another tough game

Pompey's form at Fratton has been impressive this season with our home return coming against Notts County off the back of wins at Leyton Orient and a point at Plymouth last Saturday.
