Pompey arrive just in time.

Travel problems

No not for the fans but for the team! The airline due to fly Pompey out to Wolfsburg went into administration on Tuesday night and travel partners Thomson had to quickly find a replacement to ensure the team arrived before the deadline. UEFA rules ay clubs must arrive at least 24 hours before kick off time.

Some players also had problems tracking down their passports before the club traced them. Sky Sports News showed the players in jovial mood at Eastleigh airport and skipper Sol Campbell was among the party.

Rug has arrived

I had an email early this morning from Rug telling me he had arrived safely in Wolfsburg. He sends his greeting to all Vital Pompey members and attached a short article from a member that we include below.

How Pompey can progress in the UEFA Cup

Picking up all six points in the last two UEFA cup games will guarantee Pompey qualification into the next knockout round.

Although Portsmouth managed to pick up only a point against AC Milan during the 2-2 draw last Thursday, it`s not over yet.

The situation for Pompey`s UEFA cup progress would`ve been a lot better if Adams` side had managed to hold on to the 2-0 lead that Pompey took after goals from Younes Kaboul and Kanu

Pompey face Wolfsburg on Thursday in their next European game, and with a game in hand over Braga and AC Milan, a win against both Wolfsburg and Heerenveen will allow the Blues to progress.

Wolfsburg have won both their games in the group so far, beating Braga 3-2 last week and hammering Heernveen 5-1, so they are likely to put up a fight against Pompey.

The result of Heerenveen v Braga will also come into play on how Pompey do, but Pompey are hoping to expect the return of Jermain Defoe and Niko Kranjcar to put the finishing touch on leads after Pompey have let early leads slip against both AC Milan and Hull City.

The game kicks off at 19.45 at the Volkswagen Arena.

Heerenveen tickets

The club have announced that all tickets for the Heerenveen game have now been sold. Let`s hope that something depends on it!!

The Adams Tactics

Tony Adams has been talking about Pompey being too adventurous recently and this is being seen in some circles as a possible move to 4-5-1 tonight in Germany. It might of course mean the use of less adventurous players in certain positions perhaps of even the use of fit again Niko Kranjcar behind a loan striker.

The press love to write what a manager doesn`t say and contort it - are they right in this case?

One thing for certain is that Sol Campbell will start after being declared fit.

Matchday live

However you are taking the game in be back here around 7.30 tonight for our matchday live, which I will put on as soon as the teams are announced.

More excitement. Not nearly as much as AC Milan but I still have little tingles. Play up Pompey!

We came, we saw, we were disappointed. The euro dream over & my feeling is it may be a very long time before it comes our way, if ever.
