Milan aftermath - What football fans thought!

Before the Milan game we gave you a run-down on what the press said. In the aftermath let's have a look at what football fans are posting on the blogs and read some of the impressions of the game from fans who do NOT support Pompey. I think they might surprise you and bring a sense of pride to those of you still struggling to handle the result,

-'One of the finest European displays by an English side in recent years

-Well done Pompey...you did yourselves, and the Premier League, proud!!!

-Just think how many watched Pompey play Milan tonight around Europe, and you lot put in a good show, you should be proud.

-I have to say I'm gutted for Pompey and I'm a spurs fan. I feel for you guys. I said to my brother 'imagine what a Southampton fan felt.'

-I take my hat off to Pompey, the noise created at Fratton Park just in the first half was amazing!

-It's gutting not to win after dominating. But it was a performance to be proud of. Portsmouth outplayed, out passed and outfought one of the world's greatest teams with some of the world's greatest players. It's still one of those glory nights to tell the grandchildren about.

-Thanks Pompey. I watched the second half last night on the box and it was the first time I have REALLY enjoyed watching a game this season. Your boys were MAGNIFICENT. They played with passion, pace and most importantly skill. How you didn't win I will never know.

-I'd be so upset if I was a Portsmouth fan but be proud of what you've done because you were absolutely exceptional.

-Watched the match and was very impressed. Pompey were great last night. The pace on the counter was brilliant from them, Milan had no answer. I thought Glen Johnson was immense in every aspect last night; he's in cracking form at the moment. The guy oozes confidence & in my opinion was man of the match.

-For most of the second half Portsmouth were passing it around and playing fantastic. The full backs were outstanding, shame that a tame free kick was given by the ref, it changed the game.

-I am no Portsmouth fan but that game was the best of the season. What a great game, better than anything I have seen in the Premiership. You can be proud of your team.
As for the vocal side of your crowd; do you think you could make a noise occasionally? You outdid Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool put together.

-It was a fantastic game and I though Pompey were excellent. Their crisp passing with pace was a joy to watch, and the defence looked pretty solid all night. I was thoroughly absorbed and I`m a lifelong Man Utd fan! Great stuff!

-What a fantastic performance the Portsmouth boys put in against one of the best sides in European football.

-The crowd support was magnificent. Well done Pompey and you can still go through. A wonderful, entertaining and absorbing match. And don't we need more of them?

-Great match last night, well done Portsmouth, best game on TV in ages. Fantastic atmosphere!

-That support was nothing short of outstanding.

-It was refreshing to see your fans last night, right from the off they were singing and chanting all with smiles on their faces and lapping up every minute. Football supporters as they should be, well done!

-Pure class, who said Liverpool had the best atmosphere, you lot need a bigger stadium. The Kop has nothing on you".

Remember again they are not Pompey fans!! Added to that of course are a few comments added by visitors to our own staff forums.

Pompey made a great deal of new friends last night and believe me we should be PROUD of ourselves and our team.

I'm still bouncing up and down .. and I broke a chair in the Fratton End when we scored .. jumped so high I just came crashing down.. apologies to the bloke in Row CC seat 42 (I think) .. I was me !.. I hope they fix it in time for Sunday !.... PLAY UP POMPEY .. We knew we were the best .. Last night we proved it .. BE PROUD !

As the comments clearly state, we did ourselves proud both on and off the pitch - once the disappointment of the late equaliser fades a bit, it'll sink in just what was achieved last night! Absolutely fantastic - Wolfsburg will be quaking in their boots!

Everyone there - everyone who has woken today with a sore throat, sore hands, aching limbs, pounding head and the mixed emotions of pride tinged with a thought for what might have been - you were all part of the fabric of one of the richest and most memorable nights in Pompey's history. Well played and well sung to each and every one of you.

Me too!! Not sure I can watch it again for a year or so, though. I Sky plussed it and watched the two Pompey goals this evening but I had to stop it there....need a few drinks down me to live through the last ten minutes again.

Lets put it this way, If I go to the great Footy ground in the sky tomorrow, I will die a happy man, that was from the moment I walked into the Milton, to the minute I fell asleep, the greatest football night of my life!!! Thank you all for being a small part of that. All memories are unique and that one has been filed in the "Untouchable" file.

P.s Ms Penton who gave up her ticket for my son to have was listening to it on the radio in the car outside The Good Companion pub. She was watching a fox making its way up the road when Pompey scored, She said as it happened, the fox looked back, heard the roar and bolted! If you know how far the pub is from the ground...that was some roar!!!!!!!

ive still got that same buzz i got from old trafford last season - it feels like we won even tho we didnt, but we - the fans and club - were without a shadow of a doubt the real winners, what a night, worth geting back at 3.15, barely sleeping then going to work for roll on sunday and then the german invasion, cannot wait for both - if we cannot build on that we wont be able to build on anything! were playing some great football under adams, we just need that luck and hopefully this can now start.

Penton, I got news for you, my husband knew that Pompey had scored before it was transmitted on the telly as he heard the roar - and he was watching telly at home on the SEAFRONT!!!!! He said you could also hear the dull thud thud thud from time to time. That was us clapping and stamping on the stadium floor. (He's as deaf as a post as well). My feet are still killing me!

You was so unlucky, both their goals come from fouls that were never fouls in a million years.

It certainly was a night to remember for a long long time and to tell your grandchildren about. Paul for your 30 years take my 50 and probably approaching 1000 games it was the best.
