RESERVES SUFFER WEST HAM DEFEAT

West Ham Reserves 2 Pompey Reserves 0

Pompey Reserves slipped to a two-goal defeat against a strong West Ham side at Upton Park.

Despite a much improved second-half showing, the Blues were left with far too much to do after David Di Michele and Luis Boa Morte had struck before the break.

Djimi Traore had an early sight of goal after David Nugent had helped the ball on but the defender seemed unsure what to do and the danger was comfortably snuffed out.

But the hosts soon took control and Di Michele blasted the ball just over the crossbar after latching onto Boa Morte's threaded pass.

Pompey failed to heed that warning however, and were behind just a minute later. Diego Tristan sent the ball into the area for Di Michele to fire past Asmir Begovic and into the net.

Chances were proving to be few and far between but some profligate defending from Lauren almost gifted the Hammers a second.

A poor pass by the Cameroonian full-back gifted possession to Tristan. He set up Freddie Sears, who fired just past the post.

West Ham soon doubled their advantage though, Boa Morte finding the net from the edge of the area after a corner had only been partially cleared.

Pompey's first decent opportunity arrived five minutes before the interval but Andre Blackman's effort went narrowly wide.

Half Time: West Ham 2 Pompey 0

The Blues looked a lot hungrier as the second half began but apart from a shot by substitute Peter Gregory that flew high and wide, they were still creating little.

Blackman did drive towards goal in a decent attacking move but he dithered over his shot and the danger was averted.

Pompey's best chance arrived on 68 minutes when Nugent's low drive was beaten away by Jan Lastuvka, with the Hammers keeper also keeping out the striker's header soon after.

Sandwiched between those two efforts, Tom Kilbey looked to be denied a clear penalty. The midfielder's legs were taken away in the box by Callum Davenport but the referee waved play on.

At the other end, Begovic was given a reprieve after carelessly giving the ball away on 85 minutes with Junior Stanislas unable to capitalise.

I think you will find Reid scored the second goal
iron man
and Nugent didn't.

I see that a few of our youth team players seemed to have creaped into the squad, Im guessing partially due to injuries, but hopefully on merit to. There's only one Pablo Navas-Alors! Brilliant.
