Far be it for me to tell anybody to be quiet but our new boss Mr Tony Adams is making a habit of saying things that may one day come back and bite him on the bum!
The latest 'sound bites` of 'I don't actually like people,' and 'If I had my way I'd just walk my dogs every day, never talk to anyone and then die.' from the interview published in Saturday's Daily Mail, added to last weeks 'Everyone stays who I want to stay or I don't do the job' will do little to enhance his reputation.
That said, I think his sentiment must be applauded, but what worries me is that it only takes a couple of Fleet Street journalists to start hanging on his every word, waiting for the contradiction that will invariably come and all of sudden, a genuine bloke who has our clubs interests at heart will be depicted as the new village idiot.
I think we (as fans) are already getting a feel for what he means when he says such things and I do genuinely feel that his desire to succeed is there for all to see, but when comments are taken out of context they very often look completely different and you can bet your bottom dollar that when something has not gone right or it's a bad news day, what he's said before will be dusted off and used against him. It's what sells papers after all.
So for now Tony my son, I think you'd be best served by buttoning that enthusiastic streak and concentrating on letting the football do the talking - At the end of the day that is what you will be measured on - and we as well as you, want that success.

when we get a new assistant mgr i think he should do some post match interviews, it is a lot for Tony to take on, so far i think he's doing pretty well

It doesn't matter what he says, if they wanna twist it they will. The Fleet st reptile scumbags have nothing more to do than to stir the pot, the real problem is the dumb readers that actually believe the trash......

Chix, you have said what most of us have been thinking. The Press we are getting lately is diabolical, and that is without anything that Tony Adams has said being taken into account. (Read a very interesting take on Redknapp leaving us and the stance the Press took regarding it, on the Vital Arsenal Site. It was a bit of an eye opener.) Tony should keep his head down now and just get on with it.

To criticise the Mail interview, which was one of the best of its type, is not to have read it properly.

007 don't agree. I read it "properly" and if I want to criticise it then I'm entitled to do just that. "Best of its type" is your opinion but certainly not mine. All the media picked up on was Tony's "loner"statement. There was even a phone/text-in on Five Live about it. Cheap-shot journalism - just typical of the Mail.

They are only focused on him at the moment because he is the 'new' manager. It will change and I reckon Tony will become one of those managers who doesn't really ever say much at all.

I'm sure the current government have a few spin doctors going spare. Can't we get one of them. It's not all TA's fault the press want stories & we are an easy target. Like piranhas nibbling at a whale.

Matt I think that would be a good idea. It looks like Tony is being asked and asked and doesn't know what to say and thinks he has to say something and so comes out with all this embarrassing stuff. (Been there, done it and got the teeshirt!)

Tony says lot's of things he shouldnt. Possibly he is provoked by probing journalists, and his words then taken out of context (like the "I would rather manage pompey than wigan" comment), possibly he just isn't phrasing himself right/adding too much detail ("The owner and I agree on our transfer buisness" is much better than "i'll quit if we sell player xyz and the owner knows it") - and possibly, in the case of the mail interview, his joke's are being taken out of context horribly by other journalists (the mail WASN'T the culprit - it merely brought the original (good imo) interview). either way, he is on the end of porr press, although nothing a good PR man couldnt sort out.

Tony results count, thats all we ask of you, use this season to establish yourself and consolidate the teams position again.
As a fan i will back you all the way if the team performs and we continue to strengthen the team.

HSB ... Maybe you should apply for the job of Adams spokesperson.. Carpet - Spot on about the Mail interview, I thought it was very good and only an issue once ripped to shreads by others looking for the soundbite..
