'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Let it be 'other' please...

'I would most like to see 'other' sold if we have to sell in January', not my vote, yours - although these findings from stfc ballboy's poll are thoughts that make sense, as who would want our best players sold, but at this point in time it does not seem realistic option in my thinking? So thoughts that I do not agree with to be honest...

Before I begin, I just want to make it clear that I rarely - if ever - want to see any player leave Pompey but this is something that happens, and at times needs to happen. Maybe this is what we might have to see happen again in January, but if letting just 1 special someone go means we can keep several other special players then that is a compromise, or sacrifice if you will, that I would have us do for the best of the team.

Niko Kranjcar, Jermain Defoe, Lassana Diarra, David James, Glen Johnson, Sylvain Distin and Peter Crouch are all players that we want to see stay at Fratton beyond January but realistically the prospect of 'other' - or more likely 'others' - being the ones going does not seem as though that would be possible...

Looking at it from a 'financial point of view', and the money that could be generated by selling the most valuable 'commodity' at his true valuation appears to be Diarra. He is the heartbeat of our midfield, and if we rip that out we are in trouble in a key area, but if we can get £15-£20m for him - which is a fair assessment - that should allow Tony Adams to keep most other top players, if not all other top players, and probably bring in a couple of players as well?

I do not like talking about players leaving, and hope that 'other' can be the option we take, but it was 'other' - or 'others' - not leaving in the summer that meant people we did not want to go had to go, would these thoughts - those 'others' not wanting to go - have changed much in a few months...

At the end of the day all we can do is sit and wait and see what happens though! What is going to happen will happen, lets just enjoy what is happening now make the most of it, but not believe that all will go belly up, as we cannot say for sure - nor can the media, they can only 'speculate!'

  • What the poll asked - If you had to sell one of these players who would it be?

  • How you voted - Other 41%, Niko Kranjcar 26%, Lassana Diarra 13%, Peter Crouch 6%, Glen Johnson 4%, Sylvain Distin 4%, Jermain Defoe 3%, David James 3%

  • Current Poll - Pompey go to West Ham tomorrow, but which way will it go at Upton Park...

How will we get on at West Ham - will it be another win, a defeat or would a point suffice? This is what pompeyrug wants to know with this - 'Pompey v West Ham?' Let the poll do the talking before we do when it finishes.

Before we move on what are your thoughts on what the last poll concluded? You know what to do, thoughts below please guys...

Apparently we haven't lost at Upton Park for more than 50 years and I can't see us doing so tomorrow.

I guess othe rcould well have been Utaka in many peoples minds?
    sneakay
he's the only "other" that could be sold for decent money...

We ought to bash the Hammers but you never can tell in this crazy old game.

I can confirm that Utaka was who I had in mind when I voted for "Other". I was somewhat confused by the inclusion of David James and Sylvain Distin, both of whom I rate as players, but neither of which seems likely to command substantial fees at their age. Perhaps the idea was that they're on high wages and that might be a reason for them to go.

if jamo or distin get sold, something is wrong, as there are very few (if any!) player's I would swap them for, and won't get much for either of them either. But then, I said the same about benjani...

I like Jamo and Distin a lot. They have a very good attitude quite apart from what they bring to the team. I say the same for Crouch.

UK Tony. Errr. I remember going to Upton Park in 92-93 & losing 2-0. The season they went up & we finshed third on goal difference to them & then fcked up in the play offs to Leicester. painful memories. As for those going. Sadly you could see Diarra going & I can't see why we can't hold out for £15m. Let the Mancs clubd fight over him. Distin is sounding out a move. Harry may want players, offer money & we may say yes, which may mean players going even if they wern't looking for a move. I'm just going to hate January. No bl00dy happy new year for us I fear.

The problem with the poll was that it had 'other' bottom line is that of those quoted Kranjcar is the most popular to go .. and I agree. Utaka isn't going to command a fee any higher than £4m given his form over the past 18 months .. Jameo has said he is saying and that's great although I fear Distin could be off which will be a shame.. Diarra we all expected to go anyway so why are we whinging.. players come and go .. I remember us all moaning about the sales of GON. Matt Taylor, Benjani, and Muntari.. it's football people .. or have we forgotten that ?

    January will reveal all ..........

sorry chix, I don't know what world your in, but this is a soap opera... definatly not football. I agree about the problem of having the "other" option - I didnt want any of the players to go - so "other" seemed the only possible option to vote for... I ended up not voting in the end!
