Distin - events have created uncertainty

Distin - events have created uncertainty

Sylvain Distin has become the first Pompey player to openly admit that he is feeling a little uneasy at the moment following the events of the past few weeks - and the speculation about our financial situation and the clubs future that has gone with it.

The Frenchman quoted as telling Radio Solent that he 'does not know what the plan is for the club anymore', as there does not seem to be one - as there was when he arrived - so the change in management, not to mention the financial side of things that is a constant source of talk is disturbing and disruptive: 'I came here and the club had a plan. Right now I do not know what that plan is. Every day you think "what is going to happen today?"

'You can read in the newspaper every day that the club has some financial problem.

'I don't know if it's the truth or not.'

To be honest he has not quite looked himself in recent weeks, and with him saying this I guess it explains things a little...

It is understandable that the players are a little uneasy, as we are - but it at least seems to show that he cares, in a day and age when so many do not and come across as mere mercenaries!

The sooner we get things sorted out off the pitch the better, as uncertainty off it will disrupt things on it - but if we can now build on the Sunderland win and carry on winning it will help settle people.

Another article from a paper added more, with him said to be basically considering his future at the club depending on what January brings - along with its possible ins and outs...

I didn't hear the actual interview but if you read what HE actually SAID it really isn't that odd that a player would say those things .. The negativity around the statement comes from the spin the papers have put on it.. I'm not sure Distin SAID anything any player doesn't think I just think he was naive in saying it.. i.e. He hasn't considered how it could be reported .. Perhpas it would have been better to say nothing at all..

i was umming and ahhing myself about what to say, how to write it, if to even use it at all - much like distin maybe i would have been better off saying nothing at all...
altho to be fair i think that i have tried to appraoch it in a way that isnt 'calling for panic', and trying to be logical about it - what he is saying is understandable kind of thing...

After reading the full story I really feel a little for Sylvain. Yes maybe he should'nt be saying these things out in public but sometimes you just have to get things of your chest. He has come here to be written into the story books of Pompey as the club grows, and it sounds like he is 100% behind the dream that we all have. Come on Sacha, sort out the dream and lets get back on track.

I think perhaps Distin has been more honest than other players who have possibly been more pc. It does give you some insight as to how unsettling the circumstances are at present for the players. Don't know what else to say.

Having just read the story on The News Site, I don't blame Distin for saying what he has. I blame Storrie. Why the hell does he not sit the players down and tell them what is happening as things happen? OK, he can be a bit selective and not tell them everything, but surely "keeping them in the picture" is essential to team morale and their peace of mind. I am bord of hearing Storrie telling everyone he is "bored, bored, bored" about talking about the clubs' finances, cos as far as I am concerned, he hasn't said ANYTHING yet. Let's have a bit of communication!

He is an employee at a company with issues. No different to you or I in the current workforce. (ignore the salary differences). What it does, it alerts other clubs & that might have the player thinking I could be better elsewhere. As stated, why are we not dealing with this in house. Tight as the league is we need the players focused on the matches not the business picture.

Hopefully this is Distin trying to provoke a response from Story and Sascha into telling the squad what is going on and not a cry for someone to make an offer in Jan for him!

This sort of thing wouldn't persuade me to spend much on buying the club. Wonder who their cimmunications advisor is at FP...they must be on holiday

An unexpected visitor

Pompey's Burgess was clearly at a loose end when the game at Crawley was postponed. That much was initially obviously with the level of desire to be involved in footie later revealed.

Cook - no need for a prolific marksman

Cook has said Pompey's lack of a 25 goal striker - I still think we have one - isn't going to impact on our promotion chances. I can see both sides of Cookie's opinion here to be fair.
