South Africans in advanced talks?

South Africans in advanced talks?

Another day and more speculation - with the latest 'rumour' being that a South African consortium of businessmen are lining up a bid to buy Pompey?

Rumours of this broke late yesterday/early today, but Sky sports news is now reporting that 'they understand' this consortium are in 'advanced negotiations' to buy Pompey - as with other reports, if this is a full buyout or investment is not known.

This consortium is said to be in the gold mining business, which - and I quote from something someone told me - 'has been a safe banker over the years and it is only going to get safer'. So in theory leaves us in safe hands...

There is still talk of the Pini Zahavi consortium, but the implications of that are not something that appeals to me greatly as do we want to become a 'feeder club' for others - most feeder clubs are not up to much are they? My thinking is this, although maybe attracting some star young talent in the short term, it is not going to give us the chance to carry on our moves forward.

Do Sky sports have this right?

I could not say, but I will stick my neck on the line and say a takeover or large investment is going to come our way in the not too distant future - of that I am pretty sure, I just hope that whatever happens it is in the best interest of the club and indeed us the fans!

'A spokesperson' for Pompey would not comment on financial matters at the club.

Rug, are they hoping to find a few Carats under FP once we move? Lets wait and see what happens.

that all we can do 'wait and see what happens' - its the best way as we hear so many things now dont we... a takeover/investment is something that im sure we will see in the near future tho - its clear that we need it to carry on moving forward. with a new stadium and training ground the world would potentially be our lobster!

Maybe we could get gold plated season tickets and membership cards! lol Let's wait and see as bluedr says.

whats the latest news on the ground chaps ?

I was reading the "feeder club thing" the other day, and that should be a no no... plus the talk of brining Grant back here. Not in the best interests of the club, if we want to go foward and keep our top players we need dosh plus continuity.

Oh yeah, and a famous quote the the world's number one secret agent. I luuuuurve Gold!
10/11/2008 13:56:00
2 types of gold. One of them is fools. We'll see what happens but seems more hopeful than the insulting 'feeder club' cr4p.

Don't like the Zahavi deal and have found South Africans very difficult to deal with in the past.
10/11/2008 16:19:00
SS have a habit of getting these things right but its not a certain. gold is pretty good industry, ok its not abu dahbi type stuff but hey, if its the next step up, lets take it!
10/11/2008 17:04:00
I doubt this is true,.. but as rumours go, particually regarding takeovers, there are "levels" of media - which correspond to nhow likely it is going to happen. Tabloids/setanta=random guess, sky=educated guess, official site=official, BBC=better late than never... in other words... who knows? but theyre more likely to find an asda underneath fratton park than gold...

Fine, for a temporary option

Such is his ability Jackett decided to switch Clarke to the problematic left back spot against Blackpool - this isn't a permanent solution for the former Ipswich man though.
