Zahavi takeover rumours rumble on...

Zahavi takeover rumours rumble on...

You might remember last weekend there was talk that 'super agent' Pini Zahavi was putting together a consortium to takeover at Pompey - that was labelled an 'exclusive' by our old friend Alan Nixon in the Sunday People, well Simon Jones in the Mail online late on Friday evening was 'claiming' that the Israeli agent is 'closing in' on his takeover deal...

It is being said that his consortium will come in with a £70m offer that would not only take control of the club, but also wipe out our reported debts - word I have been getting is that Sacha Gaydamak is only wanting to sell a minority 49% stake, so he can retain a majority 51%, 'if' this reported takeover has any legs it is not clear if it is a majority, minority or complete takeover... if any takeover at all!

Like the previous article in the other paper, this also says that Zahavi's plan is to bring talented youngsters from around the globe to Pompey, build them up and sell them on and start again - as said before we would basically become a 'feeder club', but a feeder club with a 'proposed' endless supply of talent using his connections in the game - and he has a fair few, and has a client list of some of the games top stars.

'New' developments on this take in this story say that Avram Grant is being lined up for a return to the club as a director of football to oversee the work that Tony Adams does, although there is also talk that Slaven Bilic could feature somewhere...

They often say there is no spoke without fire, so there could be more than a hint of truth in this - or maybe it is all complete hot air? What do you reckon fellas?

I haven't changed my opinion, which is that the story is true. Investment is needed but if we are a feeder club will we ever be allowed to win anything.

If it is going to happen, then I hope it happens soon, as we are just too unsettled at the moment. I also have started to think that maybe Tony Adams has bitten off more than he can chew for the moment and would welcome Grant to help him.

have to agree with Gandor we need some direction right now, and with Joe gone, he is going to find it very very tough

My concern would be two fold, I agree that we need to settle things quickly, but the thought of becoming a feeder club breaks my heart. I want Pompey to be seen as a successful and competitive club, not a glorified version of a league 2 club, who has to sell every half decent player they get to stay alive. The other risk of course, is the stability issue. If we are a farm for rearing youthful potential talent, we will be changing the team every transfer window, as a player starts to bear fruit. I would fear us dropping like a stone with that type of instability! I may have it all wrong, but I don't like what I am hearing. On the other count, we are talking about a takeover by a man with a reported 60m personal wealth funding a 70m deal. That suggests compromises along the way - a colourful character like Zahavi? Someone reassure me it will all be OK . .... pleasssse

For all of my negativity above, lets make one point clear though - THIS CLUB IS OURS - THE FANS WE ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THE CLUB WE LOVE PORTSMOUTH FC Lets get back the atmospheer that we used to have - we still claim to be the best and loudest fans around, yet for some matches that we pat ourselves on the back for we sing for 20 minutes loudly and say we did well. Anyone remember the support we mustered in crewe etc, the artmosphere against huddersfield when we battled against relegation to the really low league? SING FOR 2 HOURS IN EVERY GAME. LETS BE LOUD AND BE PROUD ALL GAME LONG Why doesn't vital start a campaign 'BE LOUD , BE PROUD, BE POMPEY'

good idea wakey... and as for the buy-out, it would seem LIKELY that they would want to have complete controll - however for what they want to do, it wouldn't be ENTIRELY necessery - they would just get less profits. One thing however is for sure. If they want us to be a shop window, then a succesful shop window HAS to be on the "high street" - so they wouldnt be selling our players too quickly, as they would need to keep us doing well in the premiership.
