Adams admits a Vieira interest?

As other reports today say player after player will leave Tony Adams is being quoted in the Sunday Mirror as having admitted an interest in Patrick Vieira - who surely would not come cheap, wages wise if nothing else...

Bringing his former Arsenal teammate to Fratton is apparently something that he is exploring the opportunity of doing: 'he is a definitely a player I would like to bring here if he was available.

'I will be speaking to Inter manager Jose Mourinho and asking about him.

'With Patrick you know what you are getting - he is a proven winner and great character.'

Clearly he would be nowhere near as dynamic as Lassana Diarra but could be a replacement - but if we cannot afford to keep players and need to cash in on them, how could we afford the French legend, very much a veteran now at what, 34...

Another with Arsenal connections to Tony Adams is Martin Keown, and he yesterday confirmed on Football Focus that he will meet with his former teammate about a coaching role at Fratton: 'if I can help in any way it's something I am prepared to look at; that's why we are going to meet.

'I need to decide if it's something for me to do in my career. It would be quite a life-changing decision.

'Tony called me late last night and we're going to meet at the beginning of next week to discuss things and see if there might be an opportunity for me.

'We do ponder as ex-players, 'are we best served as a manager or as a coach?', and that's something I need to go through with my family.

'We'll have a chat and see what I can do to help him.'

Some say that Keown has the makings of a good coach, and is regarded among Arsenal fans - how much basis this has I do not know. One thing that I do know is we cannot afford to lose the experience of Joe Jordan, so bringing in Keown at his expense is something that concerns me - both, if possible would be good.

If it was one or the other, then I know that I would rather we stick to what we have...

If Harry had Tony & Joe, why cant Tony have Martin & Joe? Am I missing something? Clubs have a few coach/ asst managers. As for Viera, why make it so public. And Diarra is irreplacable, unless we get Deco.

or Messi, Gerrad, Lampard & we won't. Such a shame to think of Diarra going & the break up of this wonderful team.

When tony was assitant manager, he spent a good deal of time insisting he wasn't just a defencive coach. At the time, I think lots of us thought he was talking rubish, and pointed at our fantastic defencive record... However, I am coming to think... he probably wasnt, and as with lot's of defenders who go into management, he is trying to play attacking football. Maybe he is in danger of forgetting about defending? maybe bringing in Keown as a defencive coach might be a good thing? One thing is for certain though, we also need someone with a little experiance too...

I think that viera would be an OK signing. If possible, of course, it would be great to keep hold of diara - however with that looking so unlikely...maybe viera would be a good thing.

Diarra was always going to go at some point we all knew that so enjoy him while he's here. Vierra's presence (if nothing else) is worth one last swansong so why not... As for Keown he'd apparently got the highest ranking ever in the FA coaching badges and by a strange quirk of fete his mentor and assessor was.......... Guy Whittingham !.... One other piece of info that was doing the rounds last night .. (apparently) Denis Bergkamp is also lined up ,, He's (apparently) completed his coaching badges in Holland and is ready to get back involved in day to day football... As for Joe Jordan I don't know what he does... Does anybody .. REALLY ??

first team coach... whatever that is... (errm... takes training sessions maybe?). I wouldnt mind having the entire arsenal invincibles/arsenal impossible-to-score-against's in the backroom staff... maybe kanu and sol campbell when they retire could join them?

I don't think buying a has been would be the answer, he was a great player sure, but if he was still at that level he'd only be playing at a CL club.

You can't afford to let Diarra go without going backwards in terms of results, I don't believe. You'd be better off letting Crouch go as supposed to Diarra.

I think we are looking at taking steps backwords... it's damage limitation now... although hopefully if we limit it enough, we can build a new platform to build on...

Paul is right Viera is (only) 32 and would be worth a punt IF the price is right.

Not the subject of this article but watching the Wigan match it did seem to me that Nadir whilst he is a great attacking left back he is lacking in his defensive now how. So much of Wigans attack was down that side and where was Nadir? I dont want to be overly critical because I know he will learn but to me defensively at the moment that is our week link. If we wont to tighten up then bring back the Iceman.

We know we are only likely to keep Diarra a short while and that the clock is ticking. As long as doesn't go to spuds I can live with it. Adams said there are players he wanted to bring in, and he's getting started already. Lets give the guy a chance!

Under Harry those sort of signings seemed to work, as shown by Sol Campbell et al - Just not sure about Adams yet. He was frankly awful at Wycombe.

Yeah, but that was Wycombe...Pompey is a bit larger and I firmly believe that he will become a very good manager. Oh, and the Swede has finally found a new club in the MLS so we don't need to worry about him anymore.

at wycome, he tried to be too clever, and was left frustrated by the players. Since then, he has been under the teutalige of Harry, he has some good players, and he has a good feel for the game... he WILL be good.
