Adams on Pompey defeat

Adams on Pompey defeat

Tony Adams saw his Fratton bow as Pompey boss end in a 2-1 defeat against Wigan today - a far from ideal way to end what is a week I am glad to see the end of!

But he told sky sports that he could not fault the side as he remained philosophical about the defeat: 'football takes you up and it takes you down, it's got great highs and great lows, and we had everything in one game today.

'The boys gave everything, they threw everything at Wigan. On another day you beat them 5-0, so I can't fault them.

'You get back in the game, you get the 1-1 and you think 'okay let's go away, we've got a point, we've dropped a couple today' and then you get done.

'It's just a crazy game, football. That's football, and we've got to learn from that and we'll see how we go on.'

One thing that I do know was crazy was the reckless challenge from Papa Bouba Diop in giving Wigan a penalty, the second needless penalty he has conceded in the last two games!

I thought we were pretty poor in the 1st half, yet still had the much better chances, so to have gone in one down at half time was unbelievable. We were all over them, granted they had some chances when we left ourselves exposed, in the 2nd and cannot quite understand how we managed to lose - we hit the bar 4 times - twice in each half, had at least 2 efforts cleared off the line and missed a number of other chances... I was very confident about today, and what I thought it would bring but soon had that feeling it would be 'another of those days', like the one we had last weekend against Fulham.

It has been a tough start for Adams who has seemed to get no luck at all - but more often than not this evens itself out, so hopefully it will start to do this shortly.

As said this is a week that I am more than glad to see the back of to be honest, now we dust ourselves down - and dry ourselves off after a drenching - and start again next week at Sunderland. Today was a big game for us, and a game that we needed to win, but we just move on from it now and put this week behind us.

How anyone can say that Adams is the wrong man is beyond me - and people have really started banging on about this already, which pisses me off! In the two official games he has been in charge, and the one as caretaker I have not seen anything that has suggested to me that he is the wrong man - the one thing that has surprised me a bit was the fact that we were so open at the back, something that I would not have expected from a side managed by him considering his stock ...

Well said Rug - not sure if you listened to everyone slating Adams on the Quay - it beggars belief it really does. That's all the narrow minded fans who think Pompey are going down just because one bloke left us for ya. PUP

I'm glad I didn't hear Big Tony being slated on the Quay. That would have made me really mad. Hardly does any good does it? Sure, blame that Boo Boo Diop but leave off our Tone!

The Adams family certainly had more luck than ours. Is our season going pear shaped because of the Redknapp factor ? He's certainly rocking with the Spuds. We have winable games now until the end of December. If we don't have 25 points by then I will be very worried.

It certainly seems as though Harry has taken all the luck with him, but then he always was a lucky old beggar. Come on now - this can't last. I can't say Tony will turn it around - cos there is nothing TO turn around. It's just luck. Boo Boo Diop (what an apt name) is being quite a pest at the moment. It beggars belief that people would be running Tony Adams down already - that's despicable!

I saw the highlights on MOTD & you guys were unlucky today. However, dont be pigheaded for too long with your blind faith in Big Tone. He just does not have the right experience IMO. The team are still upset about Harry leaving but I think the writing was on the wall before then and the next 4 games will be crucial for him and your team. Losing can quickly become a habit - I should know - and we had to get rid of Ramos to turn it around.

changing managers all the time doesnt get you anywhere, so im happy to stick with tony truespur, he'll come good in the end. dont want to go sacking a manager after a few games now do we.

Thins is Rug some people didn't want Adams (am I still have my reservations) but we need to get behind the bloke and give him 100% and if he can get the players onside (I'm not convined they all are either) he will turn it around and (I agree) we were unlucky not to get a point at Liverpool, should have hammered Fulham and also should have worked out how to play through Wigans midfield and buried them.. we had the chances. What we need to remember also is that those blokes who phone the Quay to complain about Adams, would've phoned to praise him had we had won.. I put no weight on what they say (generally) after I heard one say (a few weeks back) that Kranjcar had a good game when he wasn't even playing.. Also a lot claim to have been at the game but they are calling from Fareham and Portchester at 5 o'clock.. beats me where they park their helicopters.. I can never find a space for mine!!

I dont think Adams is the man to take you forwards.....not got the right experience......
02/11/2008 09:46:00
true, he is lacking the experiance - but if he can bring in some experiance into the back room, he will do just fine... chix, I find the best thing to do is to land on the roof on the fratton end... although the milton end isn't too bad either...

I have always thought that people who phone into radio stations are a spanner short of the full toolbox. Best not to listen to Radio Ranters. What would Harry have done differently today? If those woodwork jobs had gone in, Tony would be talk of the town. When you look at what's happened in the last seven days, it's clear that the gods are just having a laugh with us - manager jumps ship, draw with Fulham, lose to Pool, lose to Wigan while Harry makes a tidy pile, manages to rescue the North London derby and mashes the 'Pool. (And Saints won yesterday n'all) Hopefully this is just the Week from Hell and things will brighten up. What goes around comes around ... just call me Buddha!
